This place gets far less credit than it should. I visited this place out of chance, was totally unplanned. It didn’t show up on any tourist website. It’s a private museum which is run by a gentleman who has a lot of knowledge of the islands. Photography of the artifacts is prohibited. He explains in detail about the islands and it’s history. Usually in Hindi which is sort of like the local language, but he does the explanation in a combination of Hindi and English on request. It should be on your list of places to go to. They charge 250 per head (as far as I remember...) and it’s a good idea to give them a call before you head out there. Not crowded.

Kalapani museum contains the artefacts, original photos about the freedom fight of India and Andaman. There are status which shows how freedom fighters were being tortured in that period. Very good collection and if you have fond of history then this is a must visit place for you. Though I have reduced 1 star as the entry fee is bit higher (₹250) even if I agree that cost for collecting this papers and photos would be high but keeping low entry fee will attract the most visitors.

As per my attractions tis place was in my list on top.No doubt i m recommend and praise this place beast in compare to other museums in Portblair.because their are certain reason to visit tis place are: this place has real vibes of history.a moment you enter in the museum you start realiseing a meaning full story which start from the mystery of Andamans and ends on 1947 and after touch points .its real collection of old pics , news pappers, diarys, registers, stories, dioramas, i mean i have very less word to say on this.as per my observation if you see all before to start your journey in Portblair then i m sure that u will understand real andmans .tis place is clean and very maintain ,colourful and live.and tickets price is very less for all of these.lovely.i really fall in love with tis place wana visit again and again .at last want to say thanks to Mr.Mukeshwar who is the founder and MD of KALAPANI .and rally a man personality.i recommend strongly to visit kalapani and understand the valu of place by him only.he is persone who made and collect all small to big things by him self and made all live.great job sir .salute to your work and job for us.

This is privately created museum. It has plenty of historical photographs and a big collection of historical documents such as records and newspapers. All history of andaman and nikobar islands from old tribal times to independent India can be seen here. It is advisable to start andaman tour from here in order to have good background knowledge of islands. Nice helpful staff.

This is one of the best museums of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The entrance fee is 250 per person. It is located beside the main road and easily visible from traffic. It is a private museum and the staff have taken great care to maintain the place.Firstly, the overall ambience is calm and soothing. All the floors are very neat, well-lit and well ventilated.Secondly, this museum is an information warehouse with every nook full of beautiful historic pictures and facts.Thirdly, the staff have complete knowledge of the history of the Islands and make sure the visitors know about it. They also ensure, visitors follow the correct route within the museum , so as not to miss anything.Complimentary tea/juice is offered. Visitors will also leave with a DVD containing the history of the Islands. The museum follows a strict no photos policy, hence no photos to share.Overall , this place is a must see.

The staff are very knowledgeable and take you through a 30min talk about the brief of the things kept in the museum which is downright enthralling. If possible do this at the beginning of the trip to Andamans. This is a private collection of a single family and one of the best that there is.

I visited Kalapani museum in Port Blair this month and I must say that it is one of the best museums in India as on date. The staff are very courteous and guide you through the nitty-gritties of the collections. The place is very well maintained and has a very candid picture of Modern Indian history (especially Andaman & Nicobars history). I must say that despite having read about the Modern history in detail in the past, there was so much new that I discovered here that has been completely omitted to be captured in the conventional history books.I would strongly recommend this museum to the tourists, students and anybody who visits Port Blair and is interested in learning about the Indian history.

An amazing collection, clearly spells out the direct connection between gadar of 1857 and people of Andaman & Nicobar. Strange that people from mainland do not appreciate the connection, they dont know and no effort is made to educate them about it. This is a valiant effort in that direction and would be great if it can be made into a travelling museum that can be showcased in the mainland also
