Mount Herriet National Park one of the beautiful location of Andaman Nicobar Islands. Mount Herriet National Park established in 1969. Mount herriet is the third highest peak in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The picture on the back side of ₹ 20 note is taken from the way to go Mount Herriet National Park. From the Mount herriet Park u can see, Swaraj Dweep(formerly name Havelock Island), Shaheed Dweep (Formerly known as Neil Island) and Sir Huge island. In rainy season leach are prominent in the garden of the Park so I advice wear shoe not slipper. You can go mount Herriet by rent a bike or car its approximately 14 km from Port Blair (Via ferry) and can also go via overline its approximately 50 km form Port Blair city

Its a National Park located at a height of around 200 ft. above sea level. You will love the journey to the top of the hill with thick forest on both sides of the road. The view from the top is worth the journey, which gives you a view of nearby island like Ross Is., Havelock Is., etc. It was raining when I went there and was welcomed with a beautiful rainbow and foggy weather on the top.

Nice place for nature lovers you can go for trekking and enjoy the beauty of nature . Generally people take ferry from chatham to float and that ferry will charge you 10 rupees per head you can take your four n two wheelers along which costs 130 and 50 rupees respectively . You can see view of all the main islands from there and spend nice time there.

Mount Harriet is a small beautiful island forest point with a short trekking path which will end at the Kalapathar point. This point is where British Army used to take Indian prisoners to push them to death. The overall scenery is good and best for half day out if you are looking for a change after visiting a dozen of beaches in Andaman Islands. How to reach here:-You can get a cab or auto to Chattam Jetty. Therere city buses available as well depending upon your stay location.Pay Rs 10 ticket per person for Bamboo flat Jetty.Ferry is available every 15 minutes at the Chattam Jetty.Look for keep who will take you up to Mount Harriet forest guest House point. It will ask for Rs 500 to and fro including 1 hr wait.Entry fee is Rs 30 per person, plus Rs 50 for the Jeep. You can walk up to the Kalapathar point and Gun point which is about 2.5 km from the forest guest house.

Mount Harriet is one of the forest based tourist place in Andaman but to visit here from Port Blair you need to travel to Chatham port from there you need to take a ferry or boat to Bamboo flat from there you need to go right and there is only one way up but I would request you take a scooter from port Blair city to travel there and I would not recommend to take any old age people along with you. This place is surrounded with beauty of greenary and you will get a vast view of small island like Ross Island, Northbay and many more from here... The scenery is heart melting and they will guide you to go a sight scene through a forest I would say you to avoid that because you need to walk for around more than one long hour to reach there and you will find nothing over there no view as well... In my photos I have mentioned below the photo tagged with the end you will find the place ... But rest you can visit if you have time because visiting this place will take your one day from your list.

This place hardly qualifies as a tourist destination, despite the National Park designation. There is a park and few watch towers with barely any view. Vehicles can drive upto the top, and there is no trekking involved to reach the highest peak in Andaman. Theres also a Rest House and Tourist accommodation facility up top which should be quite a camping experience if you can manage to get a reservation from the stingy forest department. From Mt. Harriet there is an half hour trek through the forest to Kalapathar beach cliff (again, you wont get any view, its all covered by forest undergrowth), but we couldnt make it.On the way to Mt. Harriet is the 20 Rs. Point, where the scenery in 20 Rs currency was captured from (cliff view of North Bay beach and lighthouse through coconut palms). Now thats worth a stop.

With Rain playing #Spoiler the options to roam around an Island decrease drastically! That’s when Dad suggested #MountHarriet #NationalPark at Bamboo Flat for a short tour. And it was a brilliant idea, I had been here around 10yrs back and it would be a good refresh.Reaching Mount Harriet is easy from Portblair, there are 2 ways:1. Take the road on NH-4 (wonderful road and drive amidst lush green views) up to Ferrargunj and then get off towards Wimberlygunj entering Bambooflat. The ride should take you around 1hr to reach Mount Harriet. The last 2km stretch of is literally amidst the forest and refreshing.2. Take the public transport from Portblair to Chatham and a 10min ferry ride from Chatham to Bambooflat followed by the final stretch of 5km to Mount Harriet. At Mount Harriet you need to pay the entry fee and your vehicles take you around 200m from the view points. The place has multiple view points, and the forest rest house if you plan to stay(needs advance booking). There are 2 trails - one is 80m to the Gun Shot View point (picture no.6 and 7) and 2.5km to the Kala Patthar beach which we didn’t go for a reason. At Mount Harriet be rest-assured that if you plan to trek, you bring home LEECHES fro sure! We did the 80m trek and 3 of us had leeches on our feet and hence it is advised to be cautious for the beach trail for sure (that was the reason we didn’t do this trail as we had 2 senior citizens with us)The view points are wonderful, the air is brilliant and the 20rs Indian currency note also has a view of the light house visible from here!Tips: - Go on a Non-rainy day- carry snacks (not plastics)

We didnt book any package for mount harriet. We reached to Chattam jetty by Auto(took around 60 rupees Delanipur) and took Vehicle ferry to bamboo flat jetty(10 rs ticket) and then took jeep for onward/return trip from bamboo flat jetty to Mount Harriet for 500 rupees. Started around 9:30 AM and reached hotel back around 1:30 PM. We can see the north bay island view that present at back of 20 rupees( it almost looks same apart from few new trees showed up) and there are two to three view points from peaks. we saw trek path to mount harriet but didnt explore it. If you dont have time you can skip this place. However, it will be good if you are tired of constantly seeing water

Beautiful trek amidst lush green forest. Its a popular hike but only few complete the whole trail. The view from the Kala patthar after 2.5 kms of hiking is not so spectacular but worth it if you enjoy hiking as well. Might seem like a drag and boring for people who wanna visit more tourist spots. But for those who love hiking, that too in a tropical forest then they can even go a little further like we did.

This is a national park and is the second highest peak in Andamans(432 mtrs above sea level). People can take road journey which is long and takes 1 and half hours or else vehicle ferry can take around 45 minutes to reach the peak. No shops at peak and plastic free zone too. Nice scenic beauty. Enjoy the same lighthouse view as printed at the back of twenty rupee note(red note)

A beautiful Quite place on the Mountains, no Wild animals to see except for some Snakes. There is a Forest Guest House on the top of the hill with a small Garden & Sit Out. Entry inside the National park is restricted beyond 4.15 PM. There is a view point on the top, one can see the vast ocean & can also see the Swaraj Dweep (Havelock islands) & Shaheed Dweep (Neil islands) at the far end of the sea. There 2 Trek routes which starts from the top, one is about 80 mts to Gun Point view & the other is about 2.5 km to Kala Pathar. Its a quite place with not many foot falls but an outing with family & friends is a perfect way to spend the day !!!One can travel to Mount Harriet via road from Port Blair which is a bit too long. The other mode of transport is to cross the sea on a Vehicle Ferry from Port Blair (Chatham jetty) to the foot of the mountains & then travel by road to reach the top.

This National Park is quite afar from main city of Port Blair. One needs to take a ferry and cross a creek along with a car and drive for almost 45 minutes to reach. On the way there is Hope Town where there is a point at which a picturesque view overseeing North Bay and the sea through coconut trees is visible, the line drawing of which is visible on the reverse side of ₹20 currency notes. There is not much to see there at Mount Harriet excepting a few model huts of the Nicoborese and watch towers from where distant views of North Bay, Havelock, Neil and Ross island are visible. There is also a trekking path of 2.5kms to go inside the park, but that is full of leaches.

Mount Harriet National Park was originally a reserve forest which was converted into a national park in 1979. It encompasses an area of 4,662 hectares (11,520 acres), which is likely to be extended to cover an additional area of 1,700 hectares (4,200 acres) to include adjoining mountain ranges and the marine ecosystem on the eastern coast. The mountains in the park are aligned in a north-south direction with the ridges and spurs originating from it aligned in an east-west direction. The parks elevation range is from zero at the coast to the peak level of 481 metres (1,578 ft). The eastern face of the park has steep slopes, and the beaches here are also formed of rocks interspersed with small sandy areas. The park is drained by many streams which rise in the hills and flow into the sea on the east. The park experiences marine climatic conditions, and hot and humid conditions in view of its proximity to the equator.A notable feature 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) away from the park is Kalapathar, where prisoners used to be pushed down the ravine to their death.
