Average food in a great setting with very friendly staff. The setting is magnificent. Seems more like a museum than a restaurant, really is beautiful. The food is very hit or miss. Some things were delicious, red curry in particular was great, but others really weren’t good/lacked flavour. The staff were great, very friendly and nice to chat with.Worth a visit just for the setting but don’t expect anything special in terms of food.
The Giggling Squid is one of the best and definitely the most beautiful Thai food restaurant in Cambridge. The walls, decoration and ceiling are astonishing. Arguably most important, the food, it does align with the rest of the experience and is just as good as the decoration. Service is great, even now where most restaurants are training a lot of new employees and it shows. We were a bit sad we could only fit in ourselves 2 entrées and a 2 mains, the good news is that well be back a number of times the explore the rest of the menu.
Walked in without booking, had a table available and one inside the big birdcage 👌lovely atmosphere and beautiful interior.Food was pretty quick and everything was good, very flavoursome. One of our curries came with 4 roti but I suggest they increase to 5 to be able to finish the curry. Staff was extremely well mannered and attentive.
In my experience the Giggling Squid chain is always up to the mark and is consistently good. Happily this Cambridge branch was just as good as we hoped. Our waitress , Charlie was friendly, efficient and did an excellent job of juggling our ever changing order. The food was delicious, my cashew and beef dish was spot on and the egg fried rice cooked perfectly. All in all everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food and surroundings.
We got takeout which we collected from the restaurant. The staff at the entrance could have been a lot nicer and more welcoming but maybe they had a bad day...The food was nicely packaged and hot when we collected. The portion sizes can really vary, like the Hake Feast Bowl and Sticky Chicken were generous whereas the Morning Glory was tiny. As for the Chicken Peneang Curry, Im pretty sure it was a mistake as it looked half eaten! Hardly any sauce at all.Overall the flavours were really nice, I particularly recommend the Hake Feast Bowl and I can imagine eating in the restaurant is even better. Would try again.
We had a lovely time here. Our meal was great, the staff were professional and friendly and the interior is beautiful so I think it is worth visiting if you like Thai food. The menu might feel a little pricey, but I think thats normal for Thai food in the UK (another Thai place I know has similar prices for their food). I recommend going for lunch since they have a variety of set menus.
This restaurant is honestly the most beautiful place in Cambridge. You walk in and feel like youre part of fairy tale. The staff makes you feel special and they are all professional, yet friendly. The food here is a dream! So many choices and all of them divine!! We found it really hard to decide what to get but we were so happy with our choices. We had the pork belly and the salt and pepper squid for starters and I must tell you; they taste even better than they look!! So perfect!! For mains we had the lamb shank curry and the khwae river curry and roti and OH MY GOD were they divine?!!! Mouth watering food and explosions of flavour. The prices are so reasonable for the quality and the portions. We would definitely recommend and we plan to visit again soon!
Really amazing decor inside and a great atmosphere, but we were quite disappointed by the food. We ordered from the vegan menu, which had loads of options, but everything was bland or overcooked. The staff were kind, and Im told the meat/seafood options were good, but Im not going to be rushing back any time soon.
Turned up early evening without a reservation, looking for 9 people to be seated. Reception was helpful, worked it out for us and told us clearly the time limit we had at our tables. Our waiter, Majid (spelling?), was amazing - so friendly and willing to go the extra mile. We would gladly have invited him to join our table if wed had time! And the food? Wow, I have never had such good Thai food in the UK. My friends all enjoyed theirs too. Particular recommendation of the Betel Leaf Salmon starter - tastes too blow your mind :)
When we entered the Giggling Squid, we were greeted first by the beautifully tall ceilings of what was clearly a spectacular historic building and by the beaming smile of the receptionist, who signed us in and walked us to our table. As you can see pictured, we were seated in a birdcage-like trellis construction. We enjoyed the mixed starter, which I would recommend for a little taste of everything, and two lovely curries. Visually, the curries did not look to be particularly large in size - but once I got down deeper into the bowl, goodness there was much more lurking beneath than I had realised! Finally, we shared the small selection of desserts between us, which like the starters were a great way to have a little sample of a lot of items. I had some sort of alcoholic coconut drink, which was also pleasant. The staff were attentive and thoughtful, for example bringing side plates for our sharing items. One piece of feedback I would have is that the trellis seating - though good for Instagram! - was really uncomfortable. You can feel the wire beneath your bottom, the curved design makes it difficult to stand to leave and youre too far from the table. Would recommend that if you visit the Giggling Squid, request a normal table - of which they have plenty. But overall a really good service, thank you.
Nice interior and beautiful space. We arrived early and were seated straight away. Nice selection on menu and appreciated a vegan menu too- for lunch, we felt almost too much choice, with the tapas menu, regular menu, etc., but I guess better to have too many options than too little! We did order quite a few tapas with our main and nice to try so many difference dishes -all delicious. Drinks list was good too. Friendly staff. Only request would be a vegan papaya salad! Recommend and would eat here again or another location.
The place was very nice. Well decorated and Friendly staff. There were halal chicken and lamb for Muslim (i did not check the certificate by myself) and also the menu was available for vegetarian (mentioned in the non-veg menu. The sticky chicken was nice, however, you should add some side thing or a good drink juice etc. I did not take any photo of food but i am attaching one of the dinner hall. Cheers
Amazing venue in an old library. Fantastic service and the menu is good value for lunchtime. I am never disappointed when it comes to giggling squid. Try requesting bird cage when you book. You won’t regret it.
Having tried Giggling Squid in Bury St.Edmunds, I was looking forward visiting the Cambridge branch. Overall was a good experience. The food was very good but, if there is one thing to say, the portions were not big enough, especially the starters. Quality was very good and the dumplings were very tasty. The place has great decoration and it is very theatrical. Staff was friendly and helpful. If you believe this review has been helpful, please don’t forget to press the 👍 button. Thank you
I first went to a giggling squid in Salisbury in 2015. The food was so good and so memorable that when a branch opened in Cambridge, I had to go.The decor was beautiful and the atmosphere felt relaxed. The service staff were friendly and efficient. I tried the slinky pink (a deliciously sweet cocktail) and my partner tried the mango chill mosquito (a spicy sort of mojito) - both were great! We ordered from the vegan menu - veg spring rolls, veg pad Thai, coconut rice and veg jungle curry. Everything was so fresh, the jungle curry is spicy (but really good). I would definitely recommend and return to try other dishes from their vegan menu.
Great menu. Delicious food. Friendly service. Amazing building
Nice food. A few items not available (likely due to current circumstances). Service a bit slow however.
The place aesthetics is really nice but our mains were way below average. This should maybe be a 3-star review instead of two but im just a bit appauled by the 4.5 stars average rating on google and sincerely think anyone who enjoys good food will be seriously disappointed. To be fair with them one starter and one drink were really good. The other were average. The mains both felt like they had unfrozen veg and put them in a curry style and stir-fry style sauce.
Walked in, the restaurant was pretty busy Wednesday lunch time. The staff were all very courteous and attentive, my food was delivered quickly and was great. Fantastic decor and atmosphere, will definitely come back.
The food was okay, it wasnt Thai spicy.Had to send dessert back as it had a bug in it.Service was so so, it took 45 minutes to bring out the starters. There are other Thai restaurants I would prefer to go to
If anyone gives this restaurant anything less than 5 stars they are lying dont even bother listening to them. The salt & pepper squid made me reevaluate all my other squid experiences, ive never had such a nice starter in my life and im an avid foody. The thai green curry was amazing as well my meal at this restaurant might be one of my favourite dining experiences so far.
Lovely decor to visit for. Food was fine although rather small portions, and took ages to serve us although it was late lunch time at 2pm and place was not fully busy.
Had a delicious meal here with the friendliest staff! Really reasonably priced for top quality food! Amazing!
Flavours where excellent as always, disappointed that the pork I ordered was gristly and inedible. Annoyed that having discussed this with my the table staff I then had to ask for it to be removed from the bill at the end of the meal.
Good food, excellent service, sensible prices
Wonderful service and delicious food with a really nice ambience! They were also very attentive with food allergies.
I have probably eaten in all the London locations so excited when I stumbled across this branch in Cambridge. I have to stay I was met by the front of house on 7/8/2021 who was quite rude and probably should be demoted or sacked. This branch is not authentic and has lost its soul compared to the other branches nationwide and maybe should go back to the authentic customary ways of understanding how to deal with new customers.. I will not be returning thats for sure.
The food portions were good. The forced gratuity on a substantially substandard service had to be a joke. If you go, have a lot of patience, you will be waiting a long time for all stages of the service.
There are positives with a recent visit to the Giggling Squid in Cambridge. There are however major negatives. The waiter service was fine and the food available was good quality. The one star.It was the lack of options available and how they handled the situation which was and is the problem.Switching suppliers was given as the reason for five (then six after we ordered) main dishes being unavailable. The menu is not extensive so losing six dishes and for me the one I was most looking forward to is a problem. The limited menu was and is important information lacking on their website. It was lacking when making the booking, checking on the booking an not offered to me when the restaurant confirmed my booking two hours before the reservation. Poor. Very poor. When I complained during the meal, an apology was given by the waiter who informed me the manager had been informed. No appearance by the manager. When I inquired the next day if the issue had been resolved or would be for my partner’s evening out with friends a week later, the Giggling Squid front desk said probably not and seemed to neither care or even appreciate it was an issue. Not a good start at all from the most recent edition to Cambridge’s cuisine options. Not recommended.
Small portions, no flavor, quite expensive. Pretty lame experience. The only positive, the place is gorgeous to sit in
The lady on the front of house has no customer service skills. She was rude and cold Our group ended up going to Zizzi Italian restaurant. Soon as we walked into Zizzis the front of house staff was so lovely and friendly. The man on the front of house went out of his way to check if he had a spare table for us Im so glad he did. The food was amazing and all the staff I give 5 stars.A message to the Manager of Giggling Squid. Please employ staff that can treat people with respect and have a warm friendly nature. That woman was out of order.
Great ambiance inside the main seating area. Delicious foods! Cashew dish was delicious.
Huge space, perfect for group outings, lovely staff...
Went on my own, had a me time Martini then knew..I was in for a good time.Warm citrusy start.Mushroom larb, Moo ping and sticky rice went fantastically with my martini. Maybe Id ask for the mushroom larb be abit hot next time for the ultimate Thai taste.Refreshing lime pomelo chase gin with my red duck curry with egg fried rice, generous portions, I was missing a partner to share food with.maybe I shouldve chose a less heavy starter for the sticky rice definitely had me full and went for the seabass parcel and jasmine rice Id imagine its do justice to my appetite and compliment my gin. Definitely good for the price though the atmosphere is a must see, attentive and giggling service.Lovely Cocktails with a good fix of Thai food.Had a Party for one in my mouthWould bring a date next time. Many thanks.
A superb setting for top quality Thai food. Excellent service, great atmosphere, craft beer too☺️
We went for a family meal - very enjoyable - care still taken by staff - will return for meal again - thank you.
The place is quite fancy. We tried the giggling squid tapas, taste quite good.
Top quality food at a reasonable price, beautiful decor and lovely staff. Cant ask for much more than that👌🏼
The Salmon was good, great value for the price paid . Pleasant surroundings and friendly service.
First time visiting the Giggling Squid, Cambridge, tonight for our wedding anniversary and it was absolutely amazing. The atmosphere and service were perfect and we will definitely be visiting again
Paying for the venue. Drinks good but food average and the wait was far too long when it wasnt busy. Felt the price was very high too.
Food was incredible. Would highly recommend the duck curry! Papaya salad was v spicy. Big yum! :)
I came here with my family and our 2 year old, Awesome fresh menu with a great dishes to choose from, my parents had about 7 dishes of Tapas and I had some the pad Thai, it was all delicious, the decor is very welcoming, warm and inviting with the chefs, waiters and waitresses even the front of house are very nice people, II would highly recommend coming here for a meal, and we will be coming back soon ii hope 😁👍😎
Nice place.Good APAPortions could be bigger.Weve ordered 2 course meal and if I wouldnt have extra papaya salad I would be hungry. (REASON FOR 4 STARS NOT 5)Very nice friendly service.Food was tasty
Amazing food, absolutely beautiful building. Really helpful and accommodating of food allergies too.
Fabulous food, service and atmosphere. The building is incredible too. Will definitely be back!
Food was good but for the price expected a little better. Atmosphere a little quiet but well worth a visit if you fancy Thai in Cambridge.
A simply stunning interior but a disappointing experience overall. The acoustics make conversation a challenge as its so loud. The banquette where we were seated was a cramped space for the four of us dining. The air con was too cold and although our waiter was willing to adjust it we were still uncomfortable. Prices for drinks and food were expensive. The food itself wasnt good value for money.
Fantastic food, drinks and venue. Great atmosphere. Highly recommend
Delicious food, beautiful building, and the staff were great. I will definitely be back 😊.
The food is absolutely delicious. The staff are all lovely and doing an amazing job.Cant wait to come again.
Service was good, but for the food.. well lets say I sent it back n didnt order again, had the same in Norwich branch was lovely but the piece of beef they gave me in cambridge was terrible looking was like pulled pork texture on the top n hard in the middle... the taste well we couldnt but our finger on what they over did but the mix of flavours wasnt great tbh never tasted anything like it.... almost didnt want to get my wallet out at the end tbh guys 👎.. but 2 stars as they waiter did a good job.
The food is delicious ! And the decor is beautiful.
Great service and a new twist on old favourites.
Absolutely amazing!! Quality service every time we have been..thats 5 times now. The food is incredible and the atmosphere is perfect. Shout out to Izzy, Kadi and Praew! They are fantastic people and waiters/waitresses👏❤
Good is good. Drinks slightly overpriced. Overall good.
Super place lovely inside, staff really nice and food perfect.
Really nice food, though the portions were quite small.
First visit to this restaurant in Cambridge . Food was great and the staff were helpful and attentive . Would visit again for sure
The quality of the food is unreal.Service is great too.5 stars all over.Well done.
Absolutely gorgeous food to match their stunning interior.
From the the yummy prawn crackers to the crispy money bags busting with flavour and my tasty squash boat with Thai green curry everything was really good. My friends had a deliciously flavoured salad and a great red Thai fish. Beautiful surroundings and good service. Thanks Giggling Squid we will return.
Giggling squid was absolutely lovely, service was great and looking forward to returning
Décor and atmosphere is great however the food was only mediocre and the service, although friendly, was quite inattentive
Great Thai, service and quality of food make it the best Thai food in Cambridge!
Maxim is the best server, he is always working so hard
Nice food good service.
Lovely food and excellent service. Thank you guys
Ordered take away. The food was really fantastic and service great. Our only issue was the price which was very high given what we actually received. Portions were small for the price. I would happily order from them again, but not for the average night. Probably the best in town for taste, but expensive. It does not let me respond... only edit my original feedback. For example, one of our dishes included rice. I opted for this but it really wasnt enough to share. Maybe include rice with more of your dishes... like our curry which are very liquid as well? the dishes are very expensive adding something simple like rice makes the value feel greater. Our dinner for two was £70 and we had almost no leftovers. We are NOT big eaters. I think it was one of the best takeaways Ive had in ages. Truly every dish tasted fantastic. I was just left thinking wow... no alcohol, no rice or extras that was a bit expensive.
Wonderful atmosphere, amazing food and great service
Great food and great service
Very impressed with my visit to the Giggling Squid. The service was very quick and welcoming. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced (for cambridge).
Lovely meal, fantastic service in a great setting.
