Cute little cafe in Merewether, has such a homely vibe - lovely little blankets in the outdoor seating areas for those cold winter days. Food and menu options are incredible. I have visited 4 times recently, ordering a different thing every time- everything was delicious. Staff are also incredibly bubbly and helpful- offering their helpful suggestions on what to order. I will be recommending this gorgeous cafe to everyone I know.

Akuna Cafe is unique. Healthy. Delicious. Beautiful courtyard and overall vibe. Could not speak more highly of this gorgeous cafe. If you havent been, we highly recommend checking Akuna out. They also recently opened their sister cafe called Take Me Away located inside the Junction Fair. Equally as delicious with comfortable seating and surroundings. Check them out!

I used to love getting coffee and food from Akuna but now every single time I go there they literally take forever to get your order ready. We ordered two coffees and it took waiting over half an hour to get them. I love supporting local business but I think this business really needs to work on their customer service and timeframe if they want returning customers.

Just delicious! It is a little inside café but you have a nice back yard who complet well the place. The menu has a good few options and all works well for the vegetarian too.Lovely place

My partner was very pleased with their ACAI bowl which was presented beautifully.The vegan macadamia slice was ok, but a little overpowering on the peanut front.Lateé was presented in a simple but wonderful fashion.Aesthetically pleasing.Pretty great customer service.

My mother, husband and I had lunch here today. What a lovely experience. Such nice staff, wonderful food, great coffee. Lots of locals obviously there regularly, wish I lived closer! Very near Lingard Hospital, so perfect for hospital visitors.

Delicious food and the courtyard is lovely.

We ordered takeaway 30 minutes before arriving to save time. I waited an extra 45 minutes only to the get a cold coffee, missing food and food that we ordered without cheese came filled with cheese.This place looked like it was going to be winner. So disappointed.They offered nothing to fix the situation. If it was my business I would be so ashamed and other a refund.Shocking experience.

Menu has a great range, cafe is well designed and staff are excellent. Food was delicious, definately will be back to get some fresh juices!

First time here, had an ice coffee and my partner (a barista) had a latte - both coffees were awesome. Nice and cosy atmosphere. Happy and friendly staff. Would like to return and try some food!

What a stressful experience!! Long waiting lines because of poor customer service and unorganised ordering/serving system. Getting simple orderswrong. Wasted an hour just for takeaway juice.It was not even that busy, but it took so long to get a table or the attention of a staff, to the point we went to the takeaway line - but still waited 45 minutes to get a juice!! Every time an order was taken, the staff went away for a few minutes before taking another order so it took ridiculously long just to get through the queue. It seemed as though all the staff were taking orders and handing out takeaways without communicating with each other. They couldnt even be bothered to properly shout out peoples names, and ended up just waiting until people came to the counter to check on their order before they gave it to them. They kept getting orders mixed up, everyone was frustrated and another customer who was much behind me in the queue ended up getting her food and juice before us!!

I went to Akuna Cafe because I’d been told they do soft boiled eggs with toast soldiers, which is an ideal breakfast for me. I had two eggs, both done so there was enough yolk to dip the toast in, without the white being runny. Very nice. The toast was a delicious sourdough with grains. I also had a flat white which was pretty much perfect. The decor and furniture are comfy and eclectic. It isn’t a big cafe, although it does have a back deck. I went on a busy Sunday morning. I use a walking frame to get around, so a small cafe without much space between tables can be difficult. But the staff were exceptionally helpful and lifted my walking frame over some furniture so I could get to a suitable free table. And the menu is quite extensive for both breakfast and lunch - lots of healthy options, but yummy treats too. I wholeheartedly recommend Akuna.

Akuna is my favourite cafe in the area! Ros and the team are exceptionally friendly and create a beautiful atmosphere! I love coming here during summer for a mango smoothie and a healthy acai bowl and relaxing out on the back deck, during winter for a delicious tumeric latte and Ros soup bar and for morning tea coffee meetings with something healthy and sweet from the treats cabinet. Akuna has a fabulous coastal feel, you will feel relaxed being there and a nice holiday vibe.

Very nice local cafe serving excellent coffee and varied breakfast menu. Not much room and does lack views but is only a few blocks from the beach.

Tried to go here for breakfast and stood there waiting to talk to someone for almost 10 minutes and not a single one of the 3 staff members working even acknowledged me or said they would be right with me.We walked out and went somewhere else. Poor service, so well never try again

Very nice food.I have been here twice now.Once for lunch and then just recently for coffee and cake.I would highly recommend people try it in our local area or even visitors to our area.They also have a really nice outdoor eating area also out the back of the cafe also.

Awesome hidden little cafe in Merewether. Delicious food, great service. Good spot for a Sunday brunch, plenty of street parking available. Lots of sun in the courtyard. Adding this one to the list of regulars, will definitely be back.

Absolutely amazing service. It was raining slightly today and there were no tables available outside (we had a puppy so couldnt come inside). The staff made us a new seating arrangement in the back courtyard (under the awning) to ensure we were not getting wet and could accomodate the puppy. The food and coffee were amazing also! I order one piccolo for $3.50 as a normal price but the cashier said that A lot of work for only $3.50 I dont know is paying more the strategy of this shop!?

This was my first visit to this cafe and so far so good. I only had a cup of English breakfast tea but it was a generous portion and a good strength in my opinion. There was a small free treat on the side, a choc chip cookie, which was a nice added touch. The staff were very friendly and eager to please. I will definitely go there again to sample their coffee and sweets.

Every time I fly home to Newcastle my family and I visit this cafe. Reasonably priced, wonderful service and food! We had the Buddha bowl and açai bowl yesterday and they were both delicious!

A absolutely lovely and homely Cafe. As you walk through the kitchen to the outside sitting you will realise that this is a place that has had a lot of love and care put into it.The food is incredible, fresh ingredients with wonderful presentation and preparation.If you have time for a slow relaxing breakfast with a freind, stop by and enjoy!

A great place for a quick lunch, love the veggie stack and great long black coffee, pleasant courtyard.

Very helpful and friendly staff, great food at very reasonable prices, a good atmosphere with nice decor in the front area of the shop as well as out the back. I ordered a veggie stack with fig and balsamic dressing - this was really good, I will order it again when I am next there. I will be coming back when in Newcastle!
