⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I am re writing my review, still the same 5 stars, but I want to thank again Mumtaz for its superb service, quality and for always keeping their high standards. We have been coming here for more than 2 years as regulars and I can honestly say it is my favourite place to eat Indian in UK. Keep up the good work please!

This was place was extremely average. The servers were nice but a little bit forceful on trying to sell us drinks and extra food when all we were after was a straightforward dinner. The food was average. Starters were good but the speed with which they came out was concerning and on tasting them they had clearly just been flash fried or microwaved from chilled. The Mains again were disappointing the chicken was very dry and sauces a bit bland with the rice portion being a bit small.I wish places wouldnt offer Groupon deals only then to be almost grumpy that youre taking them up on the offer. Maybe if youre paying full price you get a different experience but Im doubtful of this. The final point was on exit we were presented a bill with zero cost but an arbitrary £4 service charge which kind of came from nowhere

Poor food, weak service and outdated stylingThe food quality was to a very poor standard, which left us hugely displeased. Failed to bring multiple dishes with our meal that we never actually saw. The service was very slow and the staff can be simply unresponsive. Despite the seemingly appealing appearance from the outside, inside it is tacky and outdated - establishment is in need of a make over

I love indian food and I bet my head that the purpose of this restaurants owner is if someone have never tried this kitchen before, once he gets in Mumtaz Restaurant to dream to visit it again at least 3-4 times a week. The service by the waiter was kind, respectful and careful, but the food..... OMG I cant describe with words. Maybe - THE BEST is what comes only in my head. Its a must visit.

We went as a group to this restaurant and I have to compliment their staff. They are very attentive ensuring you have everything you need.We enjoyed all the starters so much we were pretty much full by the time it came to mains. The naan bread wasn’t my favourite (I prefer it more doughy) but we enjoyed the rest of the food a lot.I would recommend the Dahi Puri (starter) and the Lamb Passanda. We would go back again.

So Here it is from the horses mouth...The secret is well and truly out now.Best lunch time curry deals in this side of central London. Best pricing ,for best quality cooking.Flavors are tasty and food is fresh, tandoori naans are soft with flaky parts, mmm.Westminster University students on Marlyebone road and Baker Street and The London Business School students your lunch time secret, is now well and truly out.I have lived all my life in the Marble Arch and Baker Street neighborhood, apart from a some years living and working around the world. This place Mumtaz, Kundan and Gaylord were THE Restrauants back in the day. I was very fortunate to be taken to all of them as a child and grew up on their fabulously delicious dishes. Time went by and tastes changed, people moved on. BUT, this place, has always maintained a good level of cooking. Hence it is still here. So, after many years of driving by I stopped and went in. Memories flooded back, but I was there for the food, It didn’t disappoint. Then for the last couple of years I have been eating here regularly. Especially for the best curry lunch time deals anywhere this side of central London. Hassan has looked after me ever since, the staff are accommodating.Decent flavorful food, like home cooked. Very importantly they use the right blend of spices, the right quality of spices here to create a delicious depth of flavor. If you like your curries swimming in oil and heavy oil, so hot and chilli you cannot taste anything else, dense thick gloopy cream curries, then this place is NOT for you. Here it is light, not over powering, some dishes one can even say delicate flavors. Just stick to well known dishes and the best lunch time deals .Try the chicken or lamb curry thali in the lunch time offer currently and you will get a good idea of the decent quality of this place. They change the deals regularly to keep it fresh. The previous deal of lamb kebab roll (rolls are big and filling) with salad and sauce under 6£. Good flavor and fresh tandoori naan. Chicken tikka roll (tender chicken) salad sauce and fresh tandoori naan 5 and a half. Come on, top end of W1 Baker Street area?Latest deal I had today, a thali of chicken curry and two chicken tandoori cubes, rice and salad and green Chutney all for under a tenner. Good value. Even knowing this place and it’s good quality, I was surprised by just how good the lunch time thali was. In particular the chicken curry. The chicken was so tender, not oily, and the sauce was just thick enough to hug the tender chicken pieces. You know a curry is so good that you can just spoon it straight in your mouth. No rice or naan needed. Nice, really nice. Fresh cooking, home cooked flavors, and good portions all from a central London restaurant. They have the same thali in Lamb (lamb curry and lamb kabab rice etc) and a vegetarian option too. This place was serving proper Indian vegetarian dishes back in the 70s so it’s not an after thought or an inconvenient add on. What more could one really ask for. Give the place a try, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Due to this pandemic, every shop I see is 50% off and thats the only thing which makes this appealing (and possibly the service too) but the food I ordered wasnt a restaurant type food, felt like something I can order round the corner and for the price to be £15 is disappointing however due to the Corona Virus, prices dropping, I cannot complain paying around £7.50 ish

Portion sizes are too small and the the food is a little bland. The food took forever even though the place was empty. I paid almost £20 for a meal that did not leave me satisfied at all. Highly recommend people go elsewhere for quality Indian food. The only thing it has going for it is its proximity to Baker Street, Regents Park, Lords, and the Mosque.

I picked up takeaway from Mumtaz today. The food was terrible. It was quite obviously frozen and then microwaved.I ordered the aloo gobi, and the potato was tasteless and the cauliflower was mushy. Maybe they only treat takeaway customers this poorly, but I paid the same price I would have paid had I sat down to eat. It cant be been that the food was sitting around either; I live a two minute walk away. This place is always empty in the evenings and its no surprise why. Dont waste your money here.

Mu
Review №66

We came for dinner and had an overall pleasant experience. The place was pretty much empty and service was efficient and polite. The curry sauces were indeed soupier than the usual creamy versions most westerners are used to, as mentioned in other reviews. I personally prefer the creamy, less soupy version, but it was nice to try an alternative. On the negative side, I found two hair strands in my food, which we didnt make a fuss about but makes me rather sceptic about the hygienic measures followed in the kitchen. The odd hair in your food can be acceptable for a home meal, but not at a restaurant dining ocassion.

I would never recommend this place to anyone and advise against dining here. The service is shocking and lazy to say the least. Im of asian decent and perhaps they thought they could get away with under performance and shoddy service on account of this. My wife and I were severed stale rice, for which they did not have the courtesy to apologise and the dishes were not freshly cooked in my experience. Portions were small and we waited an age for the meal to be prepared. I had a bad belly when I went home. Poor experience, customer service non existent and the place itself is dark and dingy and the waiters are shockingly bad and stare to no end. Steer clear, in all honesty I would give them zero stars. Absolutely pants spend your hard earned cash somewhere that is more deserving of it. I will never go there again Thanks IA
