1947 was amazing, from the getgo you feel very special as you walk in, covid measures taken at the door which made us feel comfortable. We had reservations at 9:15, there was a live DJ and entertainment, the music was a little loud so it felt as if I had to shout to have a conversation but its all apart of the overall atmosphere just takes a little adjusting to.The food was amazing, we had the flaming prawns (and yes they are flaming.. not in spice level, but they were on fire as they were being brought to our table), and avacado bhel which was one of their recommended signature dishes. Then for mains we shared a cup of butter chicken (hands down the best butter chicken Ive had) and a side of garlic naan which was crisp and cooked to perfection and some rice. Oh and an amazing bottle of Italian wine. The food was lovely and was reflective of the price (minus the prawns - youre better of getting the curry instead of the starter). The entertainment was lovely, the staff were fantastic, constantly checking up on us and noticed that we were celebrating a birthday and brought out the best cheesecake!Towards the end of the night lots of people stood up to dance and overall was an amazing atmosphere and night!Definitely one to try atleast once!

I visited 1947 over the weekend for a friends birthday. The decor inside was lovely. The food was fantastic and I’m not really a lover of Indian food, but I thought I would give it a try as it was my friends birthday. The calamari was absolutely delicious and had plenty of taste and the portion size was perfect. I had their signature dish (Prawn curry in a coconut shell) with rice. This was also lovely but a bit to much sauce inside for me. A few extra prawns would have been nice ☺️. Their cocktails were lovely and strong and we’re made very well. The lemon cheesecake was probably the best lemon cheesecake I’ve ever tasted 👌🏽.The Customer service was excellent and the Assistant Manager was very attentive.I would definitely come back to this restaurant. I have no complaints 😌

Good food but heavily over priced!!Literally TWO lamb chops will cost you £24! Does the food taste better than your normal priced Indian restaurant? No it does not.Nice atmosphere, but couldnt understand if its after a club vibe or a restaurant what with the DJ playing loud dance music. Had to almost shout to have a conversation whilst eating.

Modern Indian food served in a nice setting. We ordered their chaap and paneer butter masala. Both were really good!I also enjoyed their old fashioned. I already had a few drinks before getting there but would have loved to try their other cocktails! It seemed like the place good get a tad too loud at some time so be cognisant of that.

I will start with the music, it was so loud that I cant even hear the person next to me. As I walked in I felt bombarded by the waiters, asking about bottle water which is expensive for what it is and papadum when I havent even looked at the menu. They came up three times in the space of 10 minutes to ask for starter even when we needed time catching up with family. It felt like they wanted us to eat and leave asap. Give your customer time to speak to they family and read the menu in peace. Then the food, my sister in law is partly vegan and gluten free and they was no starter she could eat. However they did have a good range of vegan food, however the food was extremely spicy that we couldnt not eat it after few bits. And I love my food spicy but this was at another level. Ask your customer the level of spicy you would like your food. It was husbands birthday and they was zero vegan desserts on the menu so after the main we had no option but to leave. We did ask the manager if they did any fruits for us and he said no. Would I come here again and recommend 1947 London definitely no would be my answer. Unless they change few bits.

Called 2 days before booking to take deposit unusual practise. Food was hit and miss mushroom was nice chilli paneer were good chicken was nice however lamb chewy offered to remove from bill and then didn’t remove it desert disappointing reliant on desert chef who wasn’t in tasted like Royal gulab jamman you can buy from Tesco’s Service poor overall. Cancelled next weeks booking. can’t compare to other similar catergory restaurants like gymkhana chutney Mary. Can’t understand all these people that are raving about this place. If you just want a starter go here. If you want to eat a meal don’t bother.

The restaurant was easy to find, and there is plenty of parking nearby for those driving there. The decor of the restaurant is lovely. Unfortunately our table was on the left hand side, and the only view I got was a wall covered in a taped up black board. The food was delightful. I enjoyed every dish we had and would happily have had more if we didnt have the issues with the service that followed. At the start of our meal the food was coming out at a steady rate, but ended up taking longer. We decided to have some more starters, but waited almost 50 mins for them. Because of this we didnt get to sample any mains let alone dessert. The service was a real mixed bag unfortunately; and far lower than what I would expect. We had long wait times with some of the food and an incident with one of our drinks that could have been handled much better.Upon entry we were told we didnt have a reservation, only to find it on the computer after we had shown the confirmation emails. Our waiting staff was very friendly and attentive at first, but less so as the restaurant got busier. More so after an incident with our drinks. The first cocktails we had were delightful (espresso and passionfruit martini). We re-ordered the passionfruit martini, and it was nowhere near as nice as the first. We mentioned this to our waiter, and it was remade. However, when it was brought over, there was our waiter, the waitress who brought the drink, and another member of staff, which I thought might be the floor manager. They gave us the drink and asked us to taste it there and then while all 3 members of staff were standing over us. Surely they would know how intimidating that is. We said it was fine (though it wasnt) and the waitress and floor manager did a visible eye roll to each other. I found that very rude and significantly altered the mood and enjoyment for the rest of the evening. It was after this incident that our service dramatically declined. In addition to the long wait for the food, which we had to chase, I was also waiting 45 mins, and three chases with different waiters, for a refresh of my glass of water. While the men all looked very smart in their uniform, some of the women..less so.I understand that it was a Saturday night, and may be busy. But we were there for a celebration as were many of the other diners there. We heavily question if we had not returned the drink, if our service and experience would have been more positive like the diners around us seemed to be having.I contacted the restaurant first to raise these issues before posting this review, but a month later and still no response.

The decor of this restaurant is definitely Instagram worthy! The food was rich, tasty and not too oily like many Indian places can be, though perhaps the portions could have been a little bigger.Service was also very impressive, with us never finding ourselves needing to seek out a waiter, nor feeling like they were constantly looming over us.With every dish having a distinct flavour and some interesting takes on classic Indian dishes, this was a wonderful experience, though do be prepared to pay Central London prices for such an experience.P.S. The rasmalai was some of the best we ever had

* Do not recommend *We went to 1942 restaurant November last year. There is so many things wrong with this place. Billed as modern Indian food. Lots of nice pictures on social media. There was no greet as soon as we entered the restaurant. Infact we were told we had to leave by a certain time. The food was spicy. Very spicy!. One of my son was 5. We asked if they could make anything for him that was not spicy - but they couldnt. Are they just frying frozen prepackaged food. So he ate pastry form the samosa each time we ordered we were charged full amount for another samosa chat dish. The portions are very small. The bill was a shock over @£200! for not much. The place looks nice inside but the food average. When we exited no bye - no how was your food. Service is non existent. 5* I dont think soo. Dont look at social media. This is a pretentious place. The photos are choreographed. This place is not worth visiting. The food is defiantly average. Nowhere near Bombay brassiere or Chutney Mary level. But they seem to charge more. Baffling. :). If you want nice Indian restaurants go to more established brands not this.

Firstly, not really a family place, music too loud and doesn’t really match the food experience. The food portions are small for such a high cost. The taste of the food itself is no better than any other cheaper Pakistani/Indian restaurant - nothing special. Mocktails were quite good. I expected a better taste experience. Not likely to go again. The service though was good, hats off to all the staff

I have been here twice. The first time I went with a friend and we just wanted some cocktails. We stubbled upon it cause of the beautiful outside display. We got seated near the bar. I got a mango lassi cocktail and she got an espresso martini. They were both delicious. The staff were very professional and friendly. The second time, we went for food and drink. I ordered the seabass and my friend got the asparagus contiki. We had fried okra to share. Youll see pictures attached. We both ordered the masala chai cocktail. I asked for it with white rum instead of vodka. It was not an inconvenience for them. The drink was incredible. Quite possibly the best cocktail Ive ever had. Will definitely be going again. Arrived 30 minutes late but for a Saturday night it was not as packed as I thought it would be. Should have done a U turn then.Ordered drinks. £12 for a mocktail. This was okay nothing special.Ordered starters. 1 Samoa in the chaat, extra spicey chillie paneer and 2 lamb chops. Why were the lamb chops priced at £24? Very over priced for what ever reason. The mains. The daal lentils lacked in spice was just bland. The chicken biriyani came with a fancy casing but again was bland not appetising at all. The butter chicken was sweet. The naan were tiny cut into quarters. When the bill arrived 12.5% service charge was added.... why? So I asked for it to be removed.Total was £170 and all 3 of us were still hungry. If you want to experience a club like atmosphere with dim lighting where you cant even see what you are eating or hear the person sitting next to you then this is the place for youWill not be going back there again. Waste of money.

DO NOT EAT HERE. If I could leave 0 stars I would. My family and I came here to celebrate a birthday for dinner. As soon as we entered the music was so loud it was more like entering a club or bar than a dinner restaurant at 6:30pm.When we sat at the table two bowls of poppadoms were placed there without even asking us and later we found out they were charged at £7 a bowl which is extortionate. We had chilli paneer and lamb kebabs for starters. The chilli paneer for £14 had 9 pieces of small cubes in it and tasted like it was just paneer and peppers cooked with ketchup and some vinegar. The lamb curry was average as was the asparagus cutlet, the dal makhani we were told was delicious but when it arrived it tasted so bitter as if there was too much spice in there. We asked the waiter if this was right and after checking with the chef we were told this is how it is made. We also ordered Raita which came as two tablespoons of salt and pepper for £7.After all of this and at an extortionate price we did not even bother with dessert. I would NOT recommend this to anyone it was a terrible experience.

So Im gonna start with the reason for 1 star. Like all other places I review the service charge was added and no option was given to take it off. Bill came and the waiter was happy to charge for full price. Didnt even flinch to say what would you like to pay.As for everything else. It was all abit flat. Didnt really feel like an Indian restaurant, it did look nice and modern but just felt abit flat. Food was ok. Nothing special. Portions was a little small especially considering how much it cost £12 for chilli Paneer and I counted 10 cubes. Soya chops were nice, bit heavy on the salt but good flavour. Samosa chaat has the tiniest ONE samosa covered in the chaat again for what we are paying, should have been more. The waiter and waitress serving us were ok, again did the job.Would I go back probably not...

So we went to this restaurant earlier today, my friend treated me, when the bill came without notice they have pretty much added AT LEAST £1 per item on the bill (some items like £3), it contradicts the price that we paid that we saw on the menu/their website (screenshots attached) I found this really crafty considering it’s an expensive place and morally what they’ve done is wrong, therefore increasing the service charge that we shouldn’t of also paid for that we did. We only figured this out after we left the restaurant otherwise we would of gone back.Other than that, we liked the food, we happened to be the only people in the restaurant for 2 hours on Christmas Eve.

I really wanted to give this place 4 to 5 stars but couldnt. Enjoyed my food, service was good, atmosphere and decor were upscale, prices were very high, especially for London and for the portion size. However, still with that Id give this place 4 to 5 stars. This is where they lost points....after taking a few bites of my entree I asked to take it away since I wanted to leave room for dessert. I was told by my waiter that they couldnt offer takeaway due to COVID precautions. How ridiculous! The one thing that has never stopped during the entire pandemic, even when restaurants could not have their dining rooms open was the ability to serve food to go. So what is the difference here???That was something that he clearly made up. Considering my bill exceeded £180 for 2 people the least they could have done is to allow me to take my food to go if I could not finish it.

The food was terrible. Shocking because prawn starters is an eye watering £24!!The lamb chop starters were underwhelming. The Pillau rice had a weird after taste and the lamb curry tasted like water. But most shockingly was the man who calls himself manger. We were booked at 2030 and was rushed by staff the second we entered the restaurant. We asked for out food to be served together (just mains for the two of us) Instead food arrived at 21.30, 2140 & 2148.We were then aggressively told to leave at 2200 by the manager when we attempted to give feedback. They turned off the venue lights whilst customers we’re still seated. It was a mess.

The only good thing about this place is the decor. The food was mediocre, I had the biryani and it was below average and extremely overpriced. They served me an alcoholic drink when I clearly ordered a non-alcohol one. It was really hard to get the waiters attention and I could not have a conversation with my friends because the music was too loud. On top of everything, I couldnt even eat half of my plate and they refused to let me take the rest home because they say they cant do takeaway due to COVID. Thats so ridiculous because takeaway is the only thing restaurants were allowed to do during the quarantine. I ate on 2 other restaurants the same week and they all did takeaway. I would not go there again and I recommend people to go spend their money somewhere else, theres much better indian places in London for half the price.

Food is delicious but overpriced if there is no 50% off. One manager walking in the whole restaurant was not wearing mask at all. Tables were set very close to each other and that night was full house. Not recommend to visit during this pandemic...

Welcome to 1947 London. Oozing class, situated in the heart of Fitzrovia. Named after the Indian Independence Act.I was lucky enough to be invited to dine before the official opening. This restaurant showcases pure deliciousness!!The interior design is out of this world. Delicate colonial furniture combined with an impressive flower wall back drop. The lighting is spot on and the acoustics allow for a sophisticated dining ambience. This restaurant has an ultra modern feel to it and there’s even a DJ booth for post dining until the early hours to perfectly compliment London’s energetic social scene. Intricate and vibrant. The food is unique and inquisitive with a modern twist of bold spices. It serves classic and contemporary Indian cuisine. The prawns are to die for!The cocktail list has all of the classics along with various drinks designed by the in-house experts.1947 London. Just beginning and destined to be awarded a Michelin star in the near future. It’s inevitable. It’s delicious!

We stumbled upon this place looking for a pizza place. What can I say the food was out of this world. My partner and son both had pizza. I had a curry. The curry was extremely tasty. My only complaint there was too much I couldnt finish it! Hostess was lovely tending to our every need. We wouldnt hesitate in eating here again.
