Nigiri leans comically large but the food is good and will satisfy any sushi craving. Daily special rolls keep it interesting and this a great choice for classic standbys/favorites. Have not yet had a chance to try the rest of the expansive menu of Japanese cuisine.Be sure to make a reservation ahead of time and dont plan to be done in a hurry - it is always busy and service timing leaves something to be desired if youre on a tight timeline.

At the time of this review, Asaka is my top spot and go-to for Japanese food. Ive had both dine-in and carry out experiences. The food has always been great - fresh and flavorful. The service has also been very kind and helpful, but often a little slow.A couple areas for their improvement:- Hire more staff; dining in can be pretty slow and inattentive- Use some sound dampening material to make the secondary room quieter; it can get quite loud- Put your menu online via Facebook or a website; its difficult to browse via the Instagram page

An incredible sushi place! This is the perfect place to be introduced to high quality sushi for a good price if you go during the happy hour. Ive gone several times and am never disappointed. You may want to call ahead for busy days to order ahead as the wait can get long. Additionally, go with some friends so you can share a bunch of different types of sushi and try everything!

Best sushi I have ever had. Not just the sushi too, all the food is great. Theres even free green tea, and it is good green tea. My favorite dish Ive tried so far is the Pork Katsudon; the fried pork is so juicy and delicious. The ramen and curry are also very tasty. The owner and staff are very good people. Highly recommend to anyone looking for amazing Japanese food and sushi!

Looked through the reviews of several restaurants, and was excited to try Asaka. being open only from 5pm to 9pm, we expected it to be rather busy, and we were definitely correct. in the, nearly, 2 hours that we were there, we were visited once by our waitress who took our sushi and appetizer order and gave us our drinks. after about 30 minutes, we received our order of Takoyaki, and about 10 minutes after that, we received our 3 sushi rolls (the Demon roll, the $5 special roll, and the spooky spider roll). all of the sushi was below average, with the demon roll arguably being the best of the 3, but nearly all of them were falling apart. the spooky spider was basically a cream cheese roll. nobody ever came to refill our drinks, and we were completely ignored after our sushi was delivered. we had planned on ordering entrees, my SO wanted the teriyaki salmon and i was deciding between the katsu don or the asaka ramen, but we never even had a chance to order it. if i had the ability to give it 0 stars, i would. i will definitely never be visiting again, nor will i ever recommend asaka

Our food was quick and delicious, staff were all pleasant and accommodating, the decor was no frills authentic, and the vibe cozy. Great spot overall. Been wanting to go here because of the awesome reviews, and Im glad I finally did! We shared softshell crab tempura appetizer (new for us, great crab flavor), gyoza (good but didnt seem as homemade as other places), and Asaka ramen spicy (DELICIOUS broth, definitely spicy!). The prices were reasonable and the service was outstanding! Definitely will be back for more ramen (maybe just light spice this time) and to try more of their extensive list of appetizers. Check this place out for authentic Japanese food!

My favorite Japanese food place in Indy! Lively atmosphere, sizable portions and fantastic food. I went here recently for a date and sat at the sushi bar for over 2 hours as we ate sushi and chatted. Service at Asaka is always a bit haphazard but the food makes it worth it. The nigiri pieces are always generous and the Dons are authentic. Good selection of alcohol.Pro tip: Make a reservation! They place is always packed.

I usually dont leave review unless the place is very good or very bad. This place is surprising very busy. Surprising because the food is mediocre at best imo. I decided to order take out. Got there a few min before when they said the food will be ready. There were a few people waiting to sit down when I arrived. It was at least 15min of standing there before they even acknowledged me and asked if I was dining in. Place was a little busy but the servers including the person who appeared to be the owner saw me but no acknowledgement. After I finally got the chance to let them know Im there to pick up the food it was another at least 25min before the food was ready. When I finally arrived home I was very disappointed that I wasted all that time for horrible quality sushi. It was a mush. But no worries I will never be there again..

Delicious, authentic Japanese food. Since a lot of us grew up in Japan or visited there while visiting family, we missed the real, good food. Have been coming here for years and years and always enjoy the food. We had a lovely time here but I was a bit confused about why they served potato salad with the tempura. Was also confused about why the seaweed salad included kale. My dad made me take a picture of the sashimi with the pencil to show how huge the pieces are. The vegetable tempura was very yummy, the sushi was great, edamame was very good but really salty (but then again it always is everywhere) and the seaweed salad was alright. My mom and aunt enjoyed their sake and my dad enjoyed a giant Sapporo, and I enjoyed my green tea. Overall ambience is still very nice and server was friendly.

Always love coming here. The sushi and all their food is fantastic. Every time we go it reminds us of our trip to Japan. We have never had a bad thing here.Spicy red snapper is my husbands favorite sushi. I tend to like the special rolls.Only thing is to possibly ask for a little less dressing on the salad, but thats just my preference.I feel like they did some remodeling since the last time we were there. We got sushi again. New ones our group tried was the pumpkin roll which was good and the sweet potato roll which wasnt as good. We also had the special with tuna, snapper, unagi sauce, and green onions. That was my favorite. My husband still likes the spicy red snapper. We realize the veggie tempura roll had mayo in it. We wish we would have know because our friend who is vegan ordered it.Went recently to celebrate our anniversary. Green tea, warm house sake, miso soup, salad, tako yaki, special sushi and funky shrimp, karage don, and tempura udon. So yummy! Wanted to get dessert so we were so full! It was all great. Salad still over dressed, but I need to remember to ask for it with less dressing.

My family ate dinner here last night (some for the first time), and it was a very good experience. The food was delicious and the presentation was very nice. The staff were friendly and helpful, too.I liked the fact the menu had the Japanese translation of each food item, as well.Another interesting thing is they have two pay options. The first one is the regular credit card paying method. The second one is if you pay with cash, you get 10% off of your bill.

Not sure if Ill be back..the food was just okay. I only picked this place because they were relatively close and I wanted to try ramen for the first time. They informed us that they were short staffed upon arrival (which was fine). We were there for an hour and 5 minutes before receiving our main course. But they kept us updated and offered free miso soup for the wait. The salad was very bare and somehow not very fresh tasting. If that makes sense. The on special sushi rolls were the Devil ones. Consisting of jalapeño, spicy tuna, and some type of sauce. They were really good! The shoyu ramen on the other hand was just okay. Not as much flavor as I had hoped, but I have nothing to compare it to since it was my first time ever trying it. Dont know if I would be back.

Had us wait an hour and never got an appetizer (salad and a warm miso). They were more focused on their to-go orders than the dining in folks. We use to come here decent amount of times, we’ll be going elsewhere. We waiting so long that other places had closed by then. Avoid if it’s busy. Thanks Asaka.

My fiance and I always come to Asaka for our anniversary dinner. We have made this a tradition every year (this is our 5th year). Their sushi happy hour is amazing.(5-7 pm) I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND a reservation if you want to get a seat because we have seen several people get turned away because the tables were already booked. It is well worth the wait just to eat there even at normal price but it fills up FAST.Just recently I have had to start utilizing a service dog for my deteriorating health and they were absolutely awesome and accommodating about it, even when I requested to be sat as far away from other people and the bar as I possibly could. I cannot recommend them enough. They are amazing people and we are more than happy to have this as our anniversary dinner spot without hesitation!!The first picture is of our meal(crispy salmon skin hand roll, crispy salmon skin Cali roll and two others) the other picture is of the anniversary appetizer they give you. Its think sliced red snapper deep fried and topped with freshly pickled onion, carrot, spring onions and sesame seeds. Lastly is my fiance enjoying a celebratory dry Sake.

I was driving through town on my way to vacation with the family and had this place starred on my map we were very excited to try it out but when I called in for my order when I was an hour away they told me that they didn’t have enough rice to do my order. I asked if we could just reduce our order and they denied me. Extremely disappointed. Crazy how they can run out when they still two hours left before they close. We ended up going across the street and had a 6 gyros instead.

The sushi is good. However, their pick up service is atrocious. I have waited anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and a half past my pick up time to get my food. I’ve watched many cars just leave the line because of how long it was taking. Their food is not worth the crazy wait times. One time having to wait I would understand, but this seems to be a theme for this restaurant. There’s just too many options to be wasting your time here.

As far as I can tell, this place seems like authentic Japanese food. The menu was in English in Japanese and there were lots of strange options. We tried some kind of corn patties as an appetizer, my dad got a fish curry meal and together we tried the tofu pouches and two sushi rolls. Everything was pretty good but we were most impressed with jalapeno sushi roll with cream cheese it tasted like jalapeno poppers and the Spooky asparagus sushi roll. They were great and our waitress was extremely friendly. It was a nice time! I would go back again.

The sushi here was delicious! The staff was helpful and friendly. We arrived about 10 minutes before they opened for dinner on a Sunday, and even though a line had formed, we were seated immediately, and our table was visited right away by a waitress. The food took a little time to reach the table, but it was totally worth it, and if you have good company, who cares about a little wait? The place itself is small and dimly lit, but it adds to the coziness. Great place!

They were happy to have us all come and requested that we pre-order the sushi. They sent me a menu and I picked what we wanted. It was perfect! We showed up and 5 minutes later we had our food.
