The assembly rooms are stunning the octagon, ballroom, tearoom , etc must have been luxury with the costumes of the day and candle light. The person who got married on a the Saturday were a lucky couple. Best check before booking on line as I didnt know that was needed and when went discovered it is hired out fir functions so these rooms were out of commission.
Elegant surroundings, good friendly service
Attended a family wedding here ,the octagon room is amazing, lots of history attached to this place well worth a visit
I really liked this National Trust owned building. The National Trust dont run this the local council do, its free for all to see it but if you want to also see the fashion museum you need to pay. They still have a guidebook. We parked on the park and ride and got the bus in so parking wasnt much of an issue. It was easy to find. I really thought the chandeliers were breathtaking. Really stunning. I was able to go into each of the room (although one was being used for a function so I just saw it behind a rope. I didnt mind this but if you go expecting to have a good look in the room it may be best to ring ahead). There is not very much of anything in the rooms but I didnt think this detracted from the experience as I could imagine people dancing in the time of Jane Austin 😊 I have posted some pictures including one of the boxes that were used to carry people to and from the assembly rooms. I love the thought of being carried around like that. Its well worth a visit. I would recommend.
Nice places to visit. Free which is a bonus. Apart from the fashion museum, which does charge a fee. Which I didnt see. The rooms are nice and large, with most looking very similar. Meaning that there is chandelier or three, and a wooden floor, with a different layouts. And a different room shape. Once I started to walk around, my wow of each room, was less and less. Looking around the room, it looks like there could have been more places to walk around. But is sadly that is closed off to the public.
Old atmosphere of Regency time dance is still there. you can imagine woman with fancy dress looking around to be danced by fancy dandy. Free entrance to visit the three main rooms: the ballroom, the tea room and the play room. A cafe is available and inside you can visit (paying a ticket) the Fashion museum.
Free to visitVery interesting building that was referred to in Jane Austens books....
Really really splendid place. Bit pricey and that is why only 4 start. Adult ticket is £17.50 at the time of writing this review. That said, you will spend there at least an hour and im the price of the ticket you have included free audio guide. The place shows you wonder of ancient building skills. It opens your eyes on how builders in that age were able to builds such structures with limited tools they had at that time. Also, sadly the culture of bathing left with last Romans leaving the island. All in all, great place worth recommending it to anyone thinking to visit Bath.
Lovely rooms, but thats about it. Just rooms.
Unfortunately cafe not open...also extra to visit fashion museum which had to be pre booked.
Very ornate and well kept.
Claims to be open on NT web page arrived to be told NT past closed can pay separately to go round clothes museum.
Went to see the fashion exhibition- there were shoes and boots on show that I have worn .
Very classy venue
Not much to see, but well presented.
Amazing Georgian ballrooms and chandeliers, and free to visit. Highly recommended. Only takes 10 minutes to visit. Cafe and toilets on site.
Wonderful surroundings for a wedding
Lovely place to visit
Lovely location and wonderful building
Really beautiful and a great opportunity to step back in time and appreciate the past in a cost effective way!
We attended the Mozartfest in Bath. Two of the sessions we attended were held here. The acoustics made every note discernible even at the back of the room. There was an easily accessible disabled toilet and everything was on one level. Main toilets were downstairs. The staff were wonderful and there was hot and cold drinks available with free glasses of water as much as you could need. Marvellous venue for superb musical performances.
I love bath never been just love name innit 💗💗💗💗 im free btw ;) xxx
Beautiful building
Bath is bad
What a lovely afternoon. Magnificent collection of period dresses and wears. Beautifully explained for free and not too much waffle. Just right thanks. Enjoyed it. Will visit again for new exhibits.
It’s a wonderful place but once again The ballroom was locked off to all because they were filming, again! It’s 2019, surely someone could put a note on the website to say what days it’s going to be inaccessible. The Assembly room was barred as well, we could peak in from the doorway because of a wedding, I do understand it, they make good money out of these bookings but just let us know! it’s not rocket science and it has happened to us three times now! Give the person that takes the deposit for these bookings the responsibility of putting it on the web!
Exceptional Fashion museum, and beautiful ballrooms! Thanks for restoring and keeping this gorgeous place alive.
There isnt much to see in Bath unless you have have plenty of money to spend. This place was free and we were in there 10 minutes and had seen it all. Although it is very beautiful inside and worth a look if youre spending the day in Bath.
Excellent wedding venue! The building is fantastic and provides ample space for a large ceremony spaced out over a couple of huge rooms. I hear other stuff also happens there during the day.
Great Venue. Saw the English Chamber Orchestra playing Haydn and Mozart.Really enjoyed my evening !!!!!
Beautiful building with gorgeous fittings and furnishings. A terrific venue. I visited during Bath Festival and was delighted with my visit.
I attended the 2 day Achieve exhibition which had celebrity speakers and stands with people from the health and wellness industry. Everything was well set up. The integral restaurant had good food served by helpful staff. It was an excellent event in a first class venue. Highly recommend a visit to the fashion museum whilst you are there too.
Lovely old 18th Century Building with beautiful parquet flooring and a lovely atmosphere. Very well maintained building and doesnt doesnt show its age at all. The office space is used for all sorts of things like school appeals Council meetings and all sorts of local government activities.
We found this fascinating, from the beautiful historical building with the sparkling chandeliers to the little cafe within and the main attraction, rooms of clothing and accessories along with their stories spanning the centuries and painting a picture of historical life in Britain up to the modern day. Theres a dress up area for a few fun photographs and colouring in for kids. Adults interested in history, fashion and its importance in society will really appreciate a visit here.
These are a very majestic Georgian function room and ballroom complex. This is a splendid venue for a wedding or similar functions. The rooms have a well restored, beautiful and elegance. A character that matches the heritage of the city.Fashion museum and fabulous dressing up box opportunity housed in the basement. Lunch café and Museum shop.Excellent security team that recovered my left behind gray back-sack. Re-uniting to me when I returned.
Lovely building with some beautiful chandeliers! Nice staff, nice cafe with a lovely garden (could do with some umbrellas though!). There’s a good amount of information about the rooms on the Touch screens in the octagonal foyer, or on the free audio guide. If you can, I’d highly recommend the free balcony tour too! You get a different view of the rooms from the musician’s galleries and a guided tour about the use of the rooms in Georgian Britain.
Although the building is not the most majestic one in bath for me personally, the interior gives you a really good feel of what social life and social events must have been like 100-200 years ago. Having a love for costume dramas, I could immediately imagine myself walking around in the place, hoping for a gentleman to ask me to dance. Very nice experience and worth popping in for a visit, especially if you combine it with one of the museums located there.
Beautiful wedding here last month. Lovely place.
Its so beautiful, you can try and imagine attending a ball there
A beautiful example of what buildings can be like and why we need to protect our architectural heritage, We went here to visit the clothing exhibition in the basement and loved how close you could get to the exhibits and see every detail on them. If you have the time please visit this place you wont regret it.
I attended a quartet concert. I sat in row W (row 22 i assume) and the sound was not the best. The hall is massive and will suit a bigger ensemble. I also visited the place on normal days. The hall and other rooms look ok and it would be part of the fashion museum tour.
Wonderful experience, the rooms above look beautiful and would make for spectacular events. The Fashion Museum below is well designed, and offers a wonderful glimpse into fashion throughout the last few hundred years. Tickets come with free audio guides that give you more information than displayed on the written placards.
Looked good on the outside wish we had had time to go in
It was a small tour but worthy of having a look into the rooms.
Very well presentedExcellent detailed information as you walk around
Went to take a look but the venue was closed due to a private function. Wasnt advertised on website so disappointed.
I came here for an awards ceremony and dinner. It was a very good looking and clean venue, and the food was extremely good. Would definitely come to events in the future here again.
Got married here and it was phenomenal. What a venue and the staff were amazing.
A beautiful Georgian building, ballroom. Housing a spectacular and informative collection of fashion items and aristocratic clothing spanning almost five hundred years.
Great opportunity to dress up 17th century style
We attended Bath Spa Uni Gala the acoustics were beautiful, what stunning chandeliers & detail on the ceiling .You could just imagine waltzing around in days gone by.
A royal place to network with the like minded. Loved the snacks and the wine.
Beautiful historic architectural gem. Within it and at extra charge is a sizeable costume museum which plots the changing styles systematically over the centuries.
Good example of period building with plenty to see and do
Interesting collection of nice pieces but small. Ranges from Sir Walter Raleighs cod piece thru doublet and hose, Regency frocks Victoriana thru flappers dresses and onwards to Dior and beyond. (l lied about the Cod piece-sorry!) Atmospheric venue in a gorgeous part of Regency Bath.
The rooms are beautifully decorated and free to see, but there is very little information about their historical use.
Loved being able to go back in time. Nice visit for our rainy day.
It is quite expensive as a standalone museum. Better get a joined ticket with Roman bath. However this is a very nice collection of dresses and suits over the last 3 centuries.
This place is huge. It hosts the fashion museum bath. Worth a visit if your into fashion through the ages.
Wow, what a beautiful and amazing venue. Heard one of the best concerts ever here as part of the Bath Festival. Spira Mirabilis playing Beethoven 7 - they were just breathtaking!
Beautiful place. Just looking around and up at the chandeliers conjures up its past.
I have been here several times to visit, each time the ball room is closed because of an event.I visited last week I spoke to Jessica on the desk, her attitude was curt bordering rude.Considering she is the person who tourist speak to when entering the assembly rooms I would suggest either more training with her people skills or giving her a job away from the public.I will not bother trying to visit again and I have advised others not to either.SHAME!
Good free place to visit & Bath Festival venue for music & literature.
No problems when you accept that this is a budget hotel
It was a step back in time, an important venue in some of Jane Austens work and interesting to think she would gave been there. The Fashion Museum was well worth a visit; fascinating
If you are a fan of Victorian lifestyle..You cam visit here..However do take the walks organized by the mayor..These are free and an amazing guide takes you through the history of bath and its architecture
If somone like a fashion and history fashion got half AN hour a fun
Enjoyed it. Nice bit of British Roman History tucked into Bath City Centre.
Assembly Rooms encorporate the Fashion Museum.Situated a short walk from the Royal Crescent. Regular exhibitions of important clothing from all eras including clothes worn by past Royalty along with costumes used in many classic films & dramas. Not suitable for very young children or anyone not interested in history.Good idea to call ahead to see what special exhibitions might be on. Gets very busy. Well worth a visit.Theres a small gift shop but its rather pricey!
An amazing place with lots of history
Friends had their wedding here, the venue was wonderful. Loved the history behind the building
