Great selection of NZ beers. Fantastic chicken burgers

Now that Soul Shack has moved on to a new building (its a separate business) I dont see any benefits to birdcage. Sadly heartbreaker hot chicken made me nauseous when I ate it last.3 stars for the beer selection, minus 1 for the chicken.

I dont usually give reviews but in my drunken state, Ethan was a true star and offered 10/10 service. Might not have had a deck of cards to deesculate an argument but he had great service and made amazing drinks

Cool pub but a little light on their ciders which is a shame (only have canned cider).The best thing about it is you can order Soul Shack at the bar (best chicken burger Ive ever had).Great staff and just a great vibe, good place for drinks with your friends.

After an amazing Saturday visiting some good beer spots we landed at the birdcage ;). The staff directly gave us a warm welcome and helped us to some awesome drinks, coming up with a cocktail that wasnt on the menu, definitely recommend for a pre-dinner drink!

This is a great place for craft beer, large selection and being to have one with a Soul Shack burger is the ultimate indulgence.

It’s a good alternative to Goldings. Good selection of craft beer. You can bring your chicken from next door. And it has a relaxed and comfortable vibe. There are of course birdcages plural/many/more than one.

Lovely place, nice crowd and nice staff :) a bit pricey though. But then its new zealand, nonone would riot over a 14 nzd can over here.. :

A nice place to chill out after a busy day. They offer food from Soul Shack next door. The best chicken burgers in town.Large variety of (craft) beer, cocktail and drinks.A Friend took a Level 4 Burger. OMG. He was so brave. My Level 2 spice was already nice spicy.

Weve been in 3 times so far and have been served by the same pair of rude and disinterested bartenders both times. The staff act like they are too important for the customers time and look down their nose at everyone who comes in. Could be a nice bar but the atmosphere the staff create is terrible.(Bar staff was a male with ginger hair in a pony tail and also a smaller male with dark hair and a beard.)

Theres this amazing bar tender that works here called Phil and he is the best.

Not a very welcoming environment from the barman unimpressed that hed been working since 4...Appreciate it being open, but kinda burst the bubble.But the beer was nice.

Just finished a two week trip to Wellington from Auckland and have also spent a lot of time in Queenstown and Christchurch this year. This place easily has the worst service of anywhere Ive been in 2020, disinterested, borderline rude staff and this was late afternoon, I was one of only about 5 people in there. Really nice decor and environment, cant wait for this place to go under so someone can put something decent in here

Ordered two craft beers that came out frofty and was told to wait at a table and they would bring them out. Staff member still had trouble pouring them and while she thought we were not looking topped them up with another beer.Spoke to the manager who gave us two fresh glasses, but have lost faith with the place after the bad service first time.Place has a nice vibe and lots of people eat the offerings from soul shack next door.

Really great staff - made sure we got our Soul Shack fill if thats a what we wanted - who were attentive and engaged without being overwhelming. Would def go back for food or just some after work drinks.

Fantastic food from Soul Shack next door (go for the sando and fries, see if you can handle a 3) and great beers, I mean its as close to perfect as it gets

First time here couple months back.Magarita and expresso martini ordered both were awful and insipid...beer here might be ok but after previous beverage attempts we bailed.

Pretty new place, great atmosphere and good drinks selection. Classy sort of place.

HONEST REVIEW. Walked in tonight looking for a nice cocktail. The bartender came across as playful but then realised he was disraspetful towards us foreigners. We asked for a nice crisp German type Lager, he replied your in our country now. Beer fridge holding the lagers was broken to top it off. They ran out of salt for Margaritas but no apology was made. $18 Margarita should be 👌.My partner went to girls toilet where no toilet paper was to be found. She had to wait to ask the next person to get her some.Wont return soon. Seems like hospo local only kind of place.
