Good food and service, reasonably priced dishes. The bill for our party of 3 came down to about SG$80. We had the seafood stew (very very nice), mackerel (nice), bbq beef (ok) and pork belly (a bit bland). We also liked the side dishes, very flavourful. Looking forward to trying out the other dishes next time. Love the ambience as well, reminds me of those small restaurants in and around the Seoul CBD

Worst dine-in experience, staffs are rude and taste wise is awful! I don’t usually make any complaint in any restaurant, but this is horribly unacceptable as the beef soups have a weird greasy odour and inedible at all! Dishes are cooked by a non-Korean foreigner staff, not sure if she ever had an authentic Korean food before? I guess those Korean food at the food court are way better than theirs! I’ll never ever step into this restaurant again!!

In summary,1) Horrible beef dishes2) Communication lapse3) Horrible service recovery4) Staff rudeI visited Jangwon restaurant with my friends on 22 Aug. Among the dishes we have ordered, the beef in Yukgaejang and Seollongtang had a weird grease odor liken to the grease that come from a four-year-old oven. I’m not saying that they did not wash their equipment, but they probably source their beef from a wrong place, or maybe they are trying to cut cost thus the quality of the beef. I’m not usually picky with food, but they were just inedible. I pointed it out to the service staff, and she offer to redo the dishes. Later a kitchen staff came out and in her not-so-fluent English, she told us adamantly that the dishes had no problem, they tasted how they should have tasted. I was not sure if she tasted it but from my experience of eating Yukgaejang and Seollongtang, they have never tasted this way. Knowing that the beef is the problem, we asked if we could replace the beef dishes for non-beef dishes and that we wouldn’t mind getting dishes that are at a lower price. All this while, we have been respectful, and she had been showing us attitude. A long exchange of words later, we settled on replacing our two beef dishes with half a portion of tteobokki and seafood pancake each, or so we thought. The newly served dishes looked suspiciously large in portion. When the bill came, we realized we were charged full price for the two beef soups and half price for the full portioned tteobokki and seafood pancake, which was not what we agreed to. So, I pointed that out to the cashier who summoned the kitchen staff out for explanation. I explained that this was not what we had agreed and again, the full-of-attitude staff try to explain her stance in a not-so-fluent English. The conversation escalated rather quickly, and the cashier offered to give us discount for our beef dishes. Though not the most ideal, I accepted it which ended the fiery conversation and the kitchen staff returned to the kitchen while scolding us in foreign language. This has been the worst restaurant dine-in experience I had in my life! Never will I step into that restaurant again.

No service at all, never refill the side dishes or water and just stand there. Food taste wise, everything tasted similar and is very greasy and salty. Ingredient is also not fresh, the cucumber salad has a weird taste. Pricing wise, it is not cheap. Definitely not worth it, I think you get better food at the food court.

Everything on the menu is delicious! The appetizers, which I learnt from a friend is free flowing and it is like this in every Korean restaurant, here in Singapore and anywhere else in the world. As I looked back, the cutlery used was clean and white. The healthy soup which my wife and I had was actually tasty and felt healthy too although we wished the serving was larger. Edit. We had dinner again on October 3, 2020.

Miserable dining experience. Entered with a group of 5 people and wanted to do split orders (3 buffet & 2 ala carte) waiter said its not allowed and all 5 must take either buffet or ala carte. Ordered 3 pax meal and the food served was indigestible. Pork collar was way below restaurant standard and the price tag, ginseng chicken soup was absolutely rancid, kimchi stew had only one piece of chicken in it and tasted absolutely rancid. Green tea was literally green water. You are better off spending your money at macdonalds or any other fast food chain. 1 star because i cant give 0 star reviews. Kimchi pancake was crispy. army stew was ok but could be better if more flavourful. overall a decent meal. we ordered the combo set for 3pax @ $68 but TAKE NOTE that if you choose the army stew, there is an additional surcharge of $6. this wasn’t made known to us when ordering. we were told we could only order one army stew under the soup category, although there are originally 2 soups in the 3pax set, so we thought one stew replaces the 2 soups. knocked off 1 star as we felt a bit scammed.

My second time visiting the place as I remembered it for its really nice stew. However, service was terrible. First of all, our set had 3 green teas included in them. Sure we got served the first one but when asked for the other two, the waiter had to call a waitress to come to tell us that the glasses of water we also ordered that was already on the table was the green tea. We were a bit shocked and said okay but called them back to say that this was water and not the tea. The waitress had an attitude problem as she was daring enough to say Ill show you in a defying attitude. She then went to retrieve soaked green tea bags to show us (not sure what that even proves). I was initially a bit still shocked. Maybe diluted green tea was what they made? I thought to myself. But my partner of course still reminded me that no this is water. In the end, we called the manager over and he switched our glasses to GREEN water. Finally we had our green tea. It took this long to simply get our green tea. Im not sure what this waitress gained out of lying to us but we are dissatisfied with the incompetency of the unfriendly staff. I still paid $12 for gst and tax though and the full bill, which at this point meant to me just doing charity for the restaurant since I did still feel like I should support independent businesses after covid struck. We enjoyed the food and the ambience very much but a waitress lying to our faces and having such a stuck up attitude is what made me give 2 stars. The manager did give us a voucher to use the next time we come which entitles us to two free dishes but this does not really make a difference considering how I wouldnt find myself going back to only be served by this waitress, even if their food is good. I hope the restaurant owner reads this and disciplines their staff properly. I came in eager to have a good time with my partner to eat delicious korean food but our moods were ruined after being faced with this. The other waiter wasnt any much help either since he didnt even have the capability to just simply switch our drinks there and then and dumped this situation to the other waitress which only made everything worse.

It tasted like charred pieces of the chilli flakes and it was honestly awful. The cold noodle and kimchi pancake was alright.

TLDR: Food was misrepresented in the menu, tasted meh, overpriced.1. Summer palace jokbal came looking like beggar jokbal instead, and tasted like salad. The actual dish looked nothing like the photo in the menu and when asked, the staff said the photo is for show only. There was also very little meat (more skin than meat), and tasted more like a salad than anything else. For a salad, its taste was quite refreshing, but for a jokbal dish, this was definitely not worth the $42 price tag.2. Gamja Tang was mostly bones with very little meat and not worth the $50 price tag at all3. The staff cannot speak english/chinese (and are not Korean), and barely have any knowledge at all about the dishes4. Side dishes were very meh - only one in 6 dishes was decentOnly plus points are that food didnt seem to contain much msg, and rice ($2/bowl) was decently cooked

The free flow meat was ok Nothing impressive.. at the end of the meal, we were full but that’s it bah. Was here 2 other times and ordered alacarte. Felt that the alacarte food was better (beef mushroom stew, raboki), not sure if the standard has dropped or it’s just the buffet option.

We are a family of 5 and was served 1 set of 6 side dishes. When we asked for more 3 side dishes, the server only brought 2 and said the 3rd was not available. I have been here twice with my friend.+ Food is authentic. Run by Koreans, so it is authentic and the quality is above average.+ Generous in portion (e.g. many pieces of prawn and oyster in seafood pancake. Pancake is thick and big too). This is a big plus compared to many Korean restaurants run by Singaporeans.+ Because it is run by Koreans, they operate like the restaurants in Korea. Free flow sides with a wide variety of sides (4-5 types). The sides are very nice esp the kimchi and potato. Big bottle of refillable water.+ Service is good. Although the waiters are Koreans, they try their best to help you despite their limited English. My friend and I asked for an apron and I think they lent us their own half apron which was sweet. The restaurant was very packed (near full house) but they still paid attention to all our requests.+ Good promotions that are worth the deal. The steep price is more worth it with the promotions. For example, today, we have free flow mains, an army stew (portion 2-4 people), a seafood pancake, two bowls of refillable (i think) rice all at around 45 dollars for each person inclusive of GST and service charge. On top of the free flow sides. It was expensive but very worth the price.+ Good location. Very close to Chinatown MRT. Easy to locate.- Expensive. Even if you try to save by ordering ala carte, you will realise that it is almost the same as the promotion set, especially if you are not there alone. For a filling meal, expect to pay at least SGD 25-30 excluding drinks even if you dont want to order alot for a dinner.
