One of the best view points in port Blair.. calm, serene, wind the wind on your face.. a chill evening.. or a great place for morning workout!
This flag point is of great historical significance as this is the exact spot where Netaji Subash Chandra Bose hoisted the Indian flag for the first time in Indian soil on the 30th December 1943. Today, at an altitude of 150 feet in the South point area in Port Blair stands a flag pole that is visible from the Rajiv Gandhi Water sports complex where in you can spot a statue of Netaji. This flag pole stands proud and tall and the Indian flag continues to flutter gracefully. The honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi unfurled the Indian flag on the flag point on its inaugural day, the 30th day of December, 2018 to mark the 75th anniversary of Azad Hind Government and the first flag hoisting in Indian soil. The Flag Point isn’t very far from the city center; it is at a 10-15 minute walk-able distance from the tourist hotspot- Rajiv Gandhi Water sports complex
To commemorate the first flag hoisting by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on December 30, 1943, in Port Blair, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unfurled the national flag during his scheduled visit to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. A must visit which is of national importance. Spend your time here at evenings as we can enjoy cold breeze from the sea front. The place has a garden and play enna for small kids. Traffic is blocked in the evening time to avoid any accidents.
The memorial shows the place where the first tricolour hoisting was done in 1943. It is a good place to visit alone or with friends and family. It does give a relaxing and cool atmosphere and also feelings of patriotism. This memorial is very beautifully built but sadly a large area of trees were cleared in the area for its making.
Tiranga memorial is a relatively easily accessible place in Port Blair. It is probably around 4 kms away from the port blair. There is a huge flag hoisted in the place. This is supposedly the place where Netaji Subhash chandra Bose hoisted the first national flag in the year 1943. There is a good lawn and several lights which makes the place so good to view in night. Good place to have a good time irrespective of the time you plan to go there. Make sure you visit the place during day as well as night to enjoy both views. Inside there are speakers kept which plays soft music which brings a calm and fresh mood. Recommended.

Gives you peace of mind and sense of national pride. Its establishment by the sea shore further adds more stars to its architectural beauty. I visit it every morning when I am out for a walk and when I sit underneath the flag, staring at it with the rising sun glaring orange rays on my face, believe me it is the best feeling ever.
