Cars moving at 70kmph and suddenly he says to stop the car, asks Basu (Shakthis Car Driver) to go back and says, Sir, there is the bird!!. Thats how sharp Shakthis sightings are. The duo (Shakthi and Basu) are just amazing and completely fun filled guys and they make sure your birding trip becomes even more exciting. Speaking of Shakthi, this guy walks bird, he speaks bird and he love birds. Hes full of information and knowledge about birds. A perfect guy to get you the Andaman endemics. I take a bow to his dedication and expertise. He never disappoints and always puts his best efforts to guide you through the trip. He speaks to the birds in his own way and surprisingly they react and it feels like they both are communicating. Hes not only a birder but also a photographer, so it helps any photographer to get a better shot of the bird as he also gives suggestions on camera settings. Very professional planning of the birding tour itinerary. A one stop solution for all birding requirements like Stay, food and local travel.Shakti is a great guide. He is very knowledgeable about birds, their behaviour and their habitats. Very polite and responsive to requests and works on specific targets. He is also a good photographer and this skill helps us in getting good images of the birds. He provides guidance on camera settings for best results.The car driver (Basu) was also very polite and helpful. Very skilled driver and took us safely to all birding locations, even in remote and secluded places where there were no proper roads.All in all and very fruitful and delightful trip. In mid november 2019 we had three days of private guiding in Andaman in search of the endemics and other birds of interest. We stayed at the AT Villas hotel at the outskirts of Port Blair, a hotel often used by them.The birding was intensive from early mornings to late afternoons (about three hours lunch break at the hotel) in order to get also the nocturnals like the Andaman nightjar and the five owl species on the island (four endemic). The habitats were varied from wetlands to mangroves and forests. Our guide was excellent in both bird spotting, organizing and handling us as clients. He was both very professional and also very nice as well. The guide managed to find all 20 endemics, 18 of them we saw and two of them only heard (Andaman Wood pigeon and Andaman scops owl). The total list of bird species seen during the three days was 107 which met and even exceeded our expectations. The hotel we stayed in was affordable with very spacous and nice rooms. The restaurant served good Indian food and the packed breakfast was OK.All in all an outstanding and highly recommendable birding experience!

We thought bird watching would happen at a specific place. But the entire road trip of about 25 km was taken up by bird watching. We saw birds from siberia, and some of the brightest colors ever seen on birds. These islands are magical. Thanks to shakti we got to experience their magic and these lovely birds of paradise.

I chanced upon Shaktis propfile, while researching about Birding in Andaman Island. The more I learnt about him, more spellbound I am. Shakti has been godsend for our Andaman trip. He not just completed our wish-list, but shared many facets of A&N island. The fact that he has a marine biology background along with experience with ZSI & BNHS, makes his company enthralling and enchanting.More importantly, being an able photographer, and a keen observer of bird habits, he positions you at the right spots and ensures that you get perfect shots. He made sure that we had adequately covered all the endemics, including the elusive Nicobar Pigeon!!Overall, loved the time spent with Shakti. After a group tour to mainland India in the beginning of November 2019, my travel companion and I wanted to spend some days birding in South Andaman. Our hope was to see the endemic bird species the island has to offer. By pure luck we ended up with Shakti Vel of Tribesmen as our guide for 3 amazing days of birding. He also arranged everything else during our stay from airport pick-up, hotel stay at AT Villa in Flat Bay and transport back to the airport. The 3 days of guiding exceeded my expectations in every possible way. Shakti Vel has extensive knowledge of the bird species of South Andaman, where to find the birds and bird photography. He cares deeply about nature conservation. In addition he was professional, helpful and very nice. Birding for owls and nightjar was done after dark. Shakti Vel helped me with the settings on my camera. Thanks to that, I was able to take pictures of some of the birds we saw at night. My bird list after 3 days of guiding was 108 species. I saw 18 of the endemic spesies and heard the last 2 endemics. If you want to see owls or any birds in the Andamans, or just want to explore a new area which no one has before, Shakti is your guy! During my trip to the Andamans, Shakti had been super helpful with all the information and also helped me book my accommodation. On my day 1, because he was with another client, Shakti couldnt accompany me. So he went ahead and shared all the birding locations with me (more than what ebird has!). During my family tour to Andamans in March 2018 I had the opportunity to do some birding in Andaman . The whole credit goes to Shakti Vel , BNHS marine scientist for oraganising great, affordable birding tour. Shakti had scheduled morning 3 hours ( 3 days)and 1 hour ( 1 day) and showed me almost all endemic birds of the island.His knowledge about habitat , birds is awesome . Shakti is also doing bird conservation and awareness related work in Andaman and nicobar island . He has great bird eye who can spot the birds very easily .The forests of Andaman’s boast of some 300 odd species of birds out of which 20 or so are endemic. The places to go looking for birds is the forest area of shoal bay and Chiriya Tapu . With the help of Shakti Vel , I had spotted many species around port Blair .All fellow birds those who are looking for birding in Andaman , please do contact Shakti and enjoy the birding in Andaman with him.
