BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) is the apex Indian standardization institute. It is a statutory body with power to make the standards in all fields of manufacturing and services. It also offers product certification and certification of management system. It also has its own labs for testing and these are available for offering lab test facilities.The national standards are formulated by constituting expert committees from industry, research and govt bodies.Standards are also directly based on international standards (ISO)The standards are available for sale either in physical form or through on line portal. The pricing of standards is quite competitive compared to other internatonal standards like ASTM.National standards also help Indian industry from on slaught of cheap foreign imports by making it mandatory for them to meet the national standards.The BIS head office building is quite imposing and is located at the heart of Delhi in a prome area. It is 2 minute walkable distance from ITO metro station hate no 3 exit on the purple line.The main entrance has very impressive and tall wooden doors. The office has been renovated with marble flooring on the ground floor. Number of meeting rooms have been created with state of the art decor and video conferencing and audio visual facilitiesThough the infrastructure and the powers conferred to this institute can make it tower over the Indian Industry but the bureaucratic hurdels typical of Govt body pull down its eminence. The updation, rationalisation and formulation of standards are not at a rate the industry would expects. This results in many out dated standards that do not represent state of affairs and hence are rarely referred.

Bureau of Indian Standards has 2 buildings and separate receptions on the ground floor. Ask before you make a queue for meeting. Not just application of standards, India’s ISO and IEC related international activities are administered by this office. The building is too old and it should be renovated, though.

Easy ro reach.. via metro ITO station. Better than other Govt. Org. In terms of cleanliness, Attitude of employees.

This is the place where indian standardization activities are done under multiple committies. The buildings are renovated now with good facilities and multiple conference rooms. The speciality here is the wonderful library containing all the standards from across the globe. You can see indian standards from IS1 here!! Fabulous place to.visit if u love standardization!!

Manak Bhawan at Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, New Delhi is National Headquarter of Bureau of Indian Standards, close to ITO crossing, and, connected to Delhi Metro, it is located conveniently. There is not much to review about this place, being a government institution building. However, lifts in the building are not so easy to get, toilets are dilapidated, breaking down, stinking badly. There is no parking for the building, cars are parked in service lane.

Under maintenance. Good central location of Delhi.

Worst recruitment process for scientist BI had paid 750/- with all taxes in March 2018 till now no refund... no intimation of exam... no msg, no emails and no updates...Worst phone number...
