Temple is great and a sight to see. Typical South Indian temple architecture. Long queues visible for for paid and free darshan both. Always crowded, especially weekends. Go early, as early as 5 AM to get ahead in the queue. Bus no 201 starts from Mysore city Bus, platform 23 takes directly to Chamunda Hill

Unplanned visit to a great Temple!Four of us, on tour in Mysuru, came to Chamundi Hills to visit the close-by Chamundeshwari Temple. However, since the queue to enter was too long, our guide suggested that we visit this less-known Mahabaleshwara temple instead, to deposit the offerings we had purchased on the way up. I am so happy we did so.The guide told us that this Mahabaleshwara temple is older than the famous Chamundeshwari temple closeby. It had been built in the 8th century, four centuries earlier than its neighbour. There were much less people too, allowing us to enjoy its beauty and serenity at a leisurely pace. The temple is surrounded by a tall wall about 12 feet high. The temple is dedicated to Mahabaleshwar, another form of god Shiva.Photography within the temple is prohibited. We saw many Hindu idols within the temple. This temple needs more exposure. People visiting the adjacent Chamundeshwari temple should be encouraged to visit this ancient temple that depicts an earlier architectural period.

Place is good for worshipping and get blessed . please avoid any unnecessary conversation with any person, If you ask about the price only they will stick to you and ask you to purchase the stuffs of which you asked price for. So irritating and arrogantly they behave with you. So be cautious, worship and leave the place.

Though its very old temple, its architecture is very simple without any sculpture. The sanctum has phallic form of lingam with a silver facial mask and inner halls had simple round pillars to support the ceiling.shikaram is very small with some stucco images and nothing much to view from the design perspective.

This is the true temple, not the commercial temple 100’ north. It’s free, as a Ganga Shiva temple should be. No pix. No gathering place, no dancing circle, no temple to the mount. Only Nandi guards the entrance, attends Shiva, and only the priest approaches. (I attach a picture I found later hanging on a tree!) I only rate it 4 stars because only Belur rates 5. (Oddly, most of the pix on the Google listing ate not from this temple.)

A must visit place in Mysore. Good weather here makes it feel like a hill station and gives a picturesque scene of Mysore city. Upper hill top is dedicated to Devi Chamundeshwari and at a lower side there is giant monolithic Nandi made of granite. There are also few picturesque viewpoints from where you can see the city providing spectacular view of city and of Mysore palace. The view is breathtaking when the palace is lit up usually on Sundays.

Nice temple on top of the hills. The trip uphill to reach the top of the temple is very interesting. The temple is 11 kilometers from Mysore palace and nearly 8 kilometers of the journey is uphill along the spiral ghat route. The cool breeze from the forests makes the trip pleasing.

Mahabala temple situated at the top of the hill. One of the oldest temple at the top of the hill before chamundi temple in mahabaladri Hill (later it is called as chamundi Hill) crowded at the time of Dasara and other festivals seasons calm place. Restored the temple by the authority. Besides the temple parks are established nice to take photographs. Visit historic place when you visit Hill.

Location : Just near to the Chamundeswary temple.Old but with a plane archetecture.Because of less number of visitors, this temple is having a very peaceful and serene atmosphere inside. One can strikingly sense the stark difference in temperature of inside and outside the temple. It is nice to have a just sit in that cool-calm atmosphere.A must know place for those who like inner explorations

The Mahabaleshwara temple is on top of the Chamundi hills. The ancient Mahabaleshwar temple is located right next to the Chamundeshwari temple. The temple is much older than Chamundeshwari temple. In fact, this is the original temple of Chamundi hills.Mahabaleshwar temple was built in the 8th century. The temple is architecturally beautiful. The main deity of the temple is Mahabaleshwar, which is Lord Shiva. The temple also has other shrines in it. Compared to Chamundi temple, this temple is small, but not much crowded, one can find it calm and peaceful. Once you visit to chamundi hill, dont miss out to visit this ancient temple.
