The Gateway Hotel is a very good stay option in Mangalore. Very close to the Old Port, with the beaches north & south about 30 mins away. We stayed with family and was pleasantly surprised to receive two connected rooms. While youre here, dont forget to explore the Mangalorean cuisine in Cardamom or order in-room. The breakfast spread is excellent too. The hotel is undergoing renovation, and is to be rechristened as Vivanta in future. Overall would recommend

Located on old port road, this property is one of the better hotels in Mangalore. Quick and efficient service. Although undergoing part renovation right now, it wasnt disturbing or intrusive at all. Rooms are of the kind you would find in older hotels. I got a room with an excellent view of the port. Food quality was good. The buffet breakfast was repetitive except for a couple of dishes for the days we stayed. Associates at the hotel are customer focused and attentive. Would definitely visit again.

Excellent hospitality with human touch. Infrastructure is a bit old and menu looks a bit less options but all the essentials are available. Iam always a great fan of Taj delicacies. The staff are open to extend their helping hand. We stayed here on a business trip. My colleague developed hot burns boils in his feet while coming from our office. He walked barefoot for few steps in the damber road resulted this. Hotel manager (Teena madam) sent us in their car to the nearest hospital. Their staff person also came to support us. Moreover they didnt charge the car bill for this also. Such a nice gesture and values demonstrated by them. Thank you so much.

Hospitality makes up for AgeI was quite nervous choosing this hotel after reading all the reviews and was dreading the REnovation related issues we might run into. The first impression was not great when we entered. But have to admit that everything from there on was wonderful, especially thanks to the wonderful staff (everyone from the Front office to the General Manager) who made sure our stay was a pleasurable one despite the construction work and remodeling that was happening around usLOCATION: Very good location at the heart of the city.DINE + DRINK: The High Tide bar is a wonderful place to unwind in the evening with your favourite drink. A pub like atmosphere with a good selection of Wine, Beer and Liquor. The Port cafe is good for Breakfast as well as a late afternoon Coffee and snackROOM: We stayed in 410, Which was a SUITE room, so this review is based on that; VIEW: Sweet view of the Heritage building and cityscape ; SIZE: Very spacious room; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part to put me to sleep; BATHROOM: Stand in shower; TOILETRIES: Lovely Spa quality cosmetics from BIOTIQUE brand.FACILITIES: A dingy looking Gym (with no windows and at the basement!). But it came with a good range of weights, workout stations, and Cardio machines(though a bit dated). They also have a decent Swimming pool.SERVICE: Friendly staff that took care of all my needs with a smile and made us feel pampered and well taken care of. Special Shout out to SATHYA at the front desk, and the Bartender at High TideHOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Free high speed Wi-Fi that works well all over the property. Big Plasma TV screen dishing out dozens of channels spanning sports, news, music, movies and a wide variety of entertainment in multiple languagesCOVID UPDATE: THe property has done an excellent job of ensuring safety , social distancing and hygiene to minimise the risk as much as possible. Especially the Common areas and Restaurant had good implementation of the required rules

The property itself is no Taj standard - small place with just functional amenities. It is under renovation. I was privileged to be there many times for workshops, seminars and also to deliver short sessions in motivation to groups of people. The ambience and the quiet lends itself for a perfect relaxed time whether you are on holiday or on a business trip. The food is excellent, well stocked bar and the meeting rooms of various sizes make it an ideal location for small or big corporate events. Most of all, I love the coffee at Taj. I highly recommend the place to anyone who wants to be in the heart of the city minus the noise. Have fun.....

Dragons, bells, Buddha statues , Chinese lanterns & chopsticks! One gets to see all this & more at the ongoing Sian Pan Asian Festival at The Gateway hotel by Taj in Mangaluru. The Ambience is meticulously decorated with red, white & black colours that are traditional to Chinese.Every table has led smokeless candles, adding a bit of romance. The crockery is nicely laid with Chinese chopsticks too.Chef. Raju from Sian restaurant of Taj, Chennai has flown in specially for the festival. He says how every dish is carefully chosen to give the guest a unique experience. We tried several dishes like Talumein soup, Tofu in bean sauce, Butter garlic chilly prawns, dimsums, lotus stem schezwan, tofu & shiitaki mushrooms, mountain chicken, Hakka noodles, burnt garlic fried rice, date pan cakes & chocolate spring rolls. The recipes have traveled. And chef. Raju says that the recipes are not very authentic but have merged with Indian flavours. And thats the beauty of food.Truly, Sian Pan Asian Festival is one exhilarating experience that is a feast to eyes for the amazing decor, ears for Chinese music in the background, olfactory senses for the aromatic spices & sauces , tongue for an overwhelming tastes of sweet, salt, sour, spices & touch: the entire experience of eating with chopsticks. If you are Chinese food lover, then this festival is definitely worth the visit.Ps: Every dish is prepared without any colours, ajinomoto & taste enhancers.

Neat rooms. The building and design is quite old but well maintained. Nothing extravagant but decent amenities including swimming pool, gym, spa. A multicuisine restaurant cardomom, high tide bar and a poolside cafe restaurant. The bar was quite cozy but we were quite disappointed because there was no music, instead only cricket on TV with volume. Waiters were very polite but service extremely slow, probably they were short staffed bcoz of Easter weekend. Food was good and reasonable considering its taj but otherwise nothing special. We stayed here for 3 nights for a chilled out break.Location wise I had no problem getting my Ubers and OLA. It is next to the Police Commissioners office, so i guess a very safe area. We used the train and it is 5 min from Mlore Central and about 20 from Mlore Junction. The hotel is old and well maintained. There are renovations in progress, so newer amenities should come through in a few months. The amenities are basic, being a business hotel but good and well maintained. We ate our breakfast and dinner at the hotel and had room service. The food was nice, priced reasonable and with utmost hospitality. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the Taj effect. My daughters various food requests were promptly met with a smile and warmth!I recommend this place if you are considering to spend time in Mangalore.

A hotel with heavy crowd but it is not up to the mark of Taj hotel chains as you can find the rooms a little bit small and also there is small corridors and this thing doesn’t make it feel like Taj hotel. Regarding amenities every thing is there which a good 5 star hotel have also the breakfast buffet is very wide and vibrant in its variety. For that overall reason I am giving it 4 stars and also it have little bit less privacy in rooms as there are partition doors are present between two rooms so that to rooms can be shared by the guests.

I loved this place. We got a free upgrade. The room was lovely. Cardamom restaurant is good food around 4 times the cost of the really bad food you get outside. Some of the waiters actually learn your tastes and preferences. There are a lot of smiles, some of which are fake. The towels are new and clean. The foot massage at the spa was good. The gym is tiny but functional. The equipment works. While in other places pigeons drink out of the swimming pool, here we saw a kingfisher do the same! We enjoyed a game of carrom in the evenings. I didnt like the poolside cafe that much, but they do give room service.
