Staggeringly fresh ingredients, your own hot stone to cook your steak/veg how you wish, subtle spin on standards such as cheesecake. Great food & service, staff & chef happy to answer questions, quality from start to finish. Cannot recommend highly enough. I look forward to returning!

Overall the experience was good.- Food: it was delicious- Drink: the wine list is too expensive for the quality offered (cheapest wine was around £58 for an average white wine no worth more than £10 in supermarket). We tried sake which was very nice but expensive compared to other Japanese restaurants.- Service: The manager is awesome but after the welcoming you never see him again. The allocated staff to our table couldnt answer basic questions about the food. Looking at the price I would have expected a better service.- Restaurant: it is very small and so close to the next table.

Went for lunch on 16.05.21. Honestly, is not fair to call it lunch, it was an experience!Everything tasted amazing, from start to finish. We were using the £29 voucher and we order couple more of starters on top. Highly recommend the Wagyu sukiyaki roll! Then, the staff brought the hot stone and explained how to cook the wagyu steak, and it was incredible, the steaks melts in your mouth! Definitely will repeat! The staff was very attentive and always checking that everything was spot on, changing the plates and cutlery.Thank you for a great time!

TL;DR = Decent food, friendly service, cozy atmosphere. Would not recommend the hot plate.Food:The food was nice. I had the starter of Seared Butterfish which was accompanied by a delicious ponzu sauce. The star of the meal was supposed to be the Wagyu Beef on a Stone Plate that you cook yourself. The idea sounds interesting. In reality however, I was left disappointed. The novelty quickly wore off when the steak started spitting fat at me and sticking to the stone plate. In terms of vegetables, it came in a form of a few small sticks of asparagus (possible totals to one whole stick). The salsa sauce was once again delicious which saved the dish. The rice was high quality sushi rice too. I arguably would have enjoyed it more if the stone plate was not involved.Dessert was the Mochi Selection. Please note that it is two separate flavours of mochi ice cream. I did enjoy it but expected more as I would not call it much of a selection.Service and Atmosphere:Staff were friendly and explained how to best cook the wagyu well. The restaurant inside was small and cozy. I was interrupted by a waitress to clean wipe my table clean despite being in the middle eating which I did not mind but your milleage may vary. Bonus points of the Japanese Chefs welcoming customers as they step into the restaurant. Very authentic.Overall, the experience was a mixed bag but still overall a pleasant one. I would recommend to avoid the Wagyu Stone Plate as I would say it is overrated and overpriced. Sushi is definitely the highlight here.7/10

Started from sashimi & carpaccio to rolls to enjoy the natural flavours of seafood. Id say here is one of the JP restaurants in London which serves the best quality melting fatty tuna, i am pretty sure the wagyu will be the same. this place doesnt have a wide range of fish, but must must go for it if you are fatty tuna lover. not just tuna, other menus were fresh and brilliant too, need to try other menus next time.try soft shell crab roll with wasabi, its super nice. (as they make fresh wasabi, it doesnt give you a punch on your nose even though you put a lot, and it relieves the typical tempura greasiness)oh, 9 chapel rolls were spicy enough, wish theres less sauce and thicker slice of salmon on top.Overall outstanding JP cuisine.review by J.C (reservation at 1pm 11/09/20)

Extremely slow and disjointed service. Food was not mind-blowing or worth the wait.Food:Sushi was underwhelming and dry. Tuna tataki wasnt bad but over-oiled. Wagyu was good but not the best weve had. Wasabi was also very rationed.Experience:We went to use our voucher which we bought during lockdown to support local restaurants through covid and have been looking forward to trying this place out. We went for a late lunch (2 PM) booking and had a less than enjoyable experience. It took 15 minutes for them to take our orders despite flagging multiple waiters down and 1.5 hours for us to finally have our food (at which point we were starving). We ended up staying there (against our wish) for more than 3 hours for a 3 course meal. It felt like a wasted afternoon. I think the staff were trying their best but were always extremely busy. The restaurant as a whole didnt seem have a good process in place to manage order intakes and outflow of food. During our lunch at least 2 trays were dropped on the floor (mainly drinks) so it might be that the space was too cramped for that style of service.Weve eaten at cramped Japanese restaurants in Japan before but they dont have full table service and ran extremely efficiently. So maybe this place could also learn from how its done in Japan that also suits UK customers, without wasting our time.

Waygu steak was great and the Australian waygu was Halal. Sushi wasn’t special, portion sizes were tiny and the prices were way too high. Ambience was busy and just noisy, not good for dates or birthdays. Service was OK slightly rushed, forgot the soy sauce and wasabi, zero option for dessert (one dessert on the menu). Menu stacked on the table, didn’t give it us individually, same with the knives and forks, had to ask for the card machine couple times. Zero wow factor, was still hungry; for those that want something on par with the ambiance and quality of Roka, Sushi Samba, Kaia you will be disappointed.

My first visit at any Hot Stone. Ingredients are fresh. The butterfish sashimi and tuna carpaccio are divine paired with sake. Staff is attentive, especially Estelle who reminds me of Lady Edith in Downtown Abbey. We also ordered the sommelier chosen wine pairings with our Wagyu tasting menu. However, the wines (both the Pinot Noir and Riesling) arrived in tasting portions, rather than at least 175ml. A few sips and they are all gone. The Yuzu-soy Jalapeño salsa sauce meant to accompany our hot stone experience was conspicuously missing. The desserts (green tea matcha cheesecake and Mochi selections) are both scrumptious and mouthwatering.

Very good, sushi would not match what you get in Japan but is close to it for UK restaurant. Recommend the black cod dish, very delicate and cooked to perfection, sauce is smooth and full of flavour 🥰. Expect high prices, but saying that all Japanese restaurants are normally expensive in the UK and most of them do not taste anything near as good as authentic Japanese. If I had to choose I would come back to Hot Stone again knowing it delivers on the closest quality and taste to what I’ve had in Okinawa. Customer service is very good and welcoming.

From the time you walk in, you are transported into a uniquely Japanese moment. Walking through the doors to hear an Irasshaimase! from all the sushi chefs to the Cherry blossoms along the back walls, I knew I was in for a beautiful experience. The selection of food is some of the most finely selected Sashimi, A5 Wagyu beef & produceIve had in London. The waltz of produce, flavours and cooking styles intertwines for the finest execution. Every part of the sashimi platter was fresh and worked so perfectly with their homemade Wasabi. The star of the show being their hot plate Wagyu melts in your mouth and leaves a lasting memory reminiscent of a warm sake in the midst of the Niseko snowfields. There is a depth to the overall experience that is anchored by their wait staff who knew every part of their food and Sake and explained it with such detail. There is an attentiveness that is very attuned to Japanese culture from the way cutlery is placed, all the way to a napkin being placed when it is needed without needing to be asked.Hotstone London is a true cultural experience that not only relies on their food but a nod to the Takumi (Artisan) of Japanese Cuisine.Thank you for the memoriesDate of booking : 08/10/2020Pax: 2Booking: Tommy

Dined here 21/08/2020 during a week pleasure visit to London with my partner. From the moment you walk in you’re greeted with enthusiastic chefs and staff that are all too happy to help you.Decor of the restaurant is lovely, traditional and yet modern. It was a very pleasing dining experience indeed. We had the Kobe Wagyu beef, coupled with two portions of Butterfish and Tuna Nagiri respectfully. Absolutely delicious and quite possibly the best Sushi we’ve had to date. The Kobe beef is an absolute MUST try if you haven’t experienced it before like us. It’s absolutely delicious and just completely melts in your mouth with pure flavour, no sauce or spices needed except for a pinch of Sea Salt to taste! It has personally been on my bucket list for quite some time however finding a restaurant that is certified for it (such as Hot Stone) proved challenging - glad I’ve finally experienced this gold standard cut of beef.We were initially hesitant to cook such a premium cut of meat ourselves, however the staff were more than happy to help us with tips and ease our concerns.I will be recommending anyone who travels to London to visit this restaurant for an absolute first class dining experience at an excellent price. Five stars from us!We hope to see you again soon on our next trip.

We went for the omakase and really enjoyed the ambiance and service. However, the courses could have been a little more varied as we were having sashimi cuts and sushi that felt a repetitive - it would have been nice to have tempura for a different cooked element or some beef on a hot stone like the restaurant is known for. The dessert at the end was also quite small and overall felt a little unbalanced. However, we would definitely still come again as the food was delicious.

50% OFF unfortunately was the bait that got me in to try the place, but fell into the marketing trap.It was a Tuesday evening and we decided to try Hot Stone because it appeared on my Instagram feed attached to an offer. The offer seemed good for a restaurant penned to be one of London’s best Japanese restaurants. The service was actually quite good. We ordered 5 dishes: salmon salad, aubergine side, crunchy hot stone roll , soft shell crab roll, chapel roll and edamame. In addition, the wine by the glass on the menu only lists the small glass price or the bottle. 1 large glass of white wine was £13.60!! We weren’t advised of the price and had ordered 2 of these and one medium glass of red. That came to £35 of wine (good to ask for the price as a tip). The food itself was nice. That said, I wouldn’t say amazing. We didn’t eat any meat which is their speciality so that may differ. When the bill arrived, it was £150!!! Insanely expensive and we left their feeling hungry. We mentioned the 50% off offer and the waiter came back with a new bill that has £20 off the bill... yep, not 50%, £10 per person.I felt ripped off to be honest based on the offer promise I believed I was getting. I wouldn’t go back again. The team did a good job.

Previously had been to hot stones in their dining room and knew we had to come back for their omakase and we were right! Absolutely delicious and a wonderful experience from start to finish. Chef Padam and his small team were hugely entertaining and extremely skilled in giving an intimate and informative experience in Japanese fine ingredients and drinks. Loved being a small group of 4 on the front row and left extremely satisfied with full belliesEirene yeung and Thomas LuthierDined 19/10/2020

The prices are on the higher side, but I can honestly say this place serves some of the most delicious Japanese food in London. The chefs are Japanese, the atmosphere is small, cosy and welcoming. And I’m struggling to think where you have have sushi that is more gourmet and inventive than this. I can’t wait to go back

I have to be honest. It is really expensive for better than average food.I was lucky to be invited by a friend who had a 50% off mains discount, so we ordered a good few dishes to try.The majority of the menu is pure fish. There were only 2 or 3 meat dishes, including steak served with a hot stone to cook it. Nice experience :)But at the end of the day, nothing worth going all the way up to see.Needs a few more meaty dishes, sake that have flavour and totally need to work on pricing.

I went there for my mate’s birthday and we had a great time.Super friendly waiters and amazing service.Hot stone is super fan and it is very photogenic / instagramable.I could give 5* if it was slightly cheaper.I will def go back! (It seems like they are doing 30% discount lunch on Fridays and 15% on Saturdays and Sundays. You should check it out!)

We took part in the omakase experience on the 10th of August and it was the most mind blowing culinary adventure of our lifetime. Chef Padam is an incredible chef, insanely skilled, very charismatic and super funny. The experience was very intimate as they closed the restaurant for the whole evening just for us! I wish I could name a favourite dish of mine but every bite was a new moment and a new story, melting in your mouth and taking you on an adventure. We will DEFINITELY be back as soon as we can, thank you so much for the whole team who made the experience so much more special for us. See you soon!Kash & George10/8/20

Hands down the best sushi I’ve had since moving to the UK. The staff were super friendly and we had a great tasting experience with the chef at the bar. Happily recommend and will be back for more of the spicy tuna!

Tasting menu was delightful. Food is 5/5. Drinks are daylight robbery, prob 2x over priced. Islington interior is rudimentary and we felt the waiters were rushing us out of the door during of last quarter of the meal.

The staff were very friendly. The food was better than expected for someone who has never had sushi before, I would recommend the crunchy hot stone roll for those who are weary of eating raw fish. It was a lovely experience and would recommend that people at least try it once. :)

Second time at Hot Stone, the private dining experience was brilliant. Seeing the chefs prepare food in front of our eyes is like watching a performance.

The best Japanese I have been in London so far. The food is incredible, the decor and the atmosphere are really nice, it brought me back to Kyoto for a moment. The personal was attentive and helpful. If you want a nice and special Japanese dinner then Hot Stone is the place.

Would love to have given this a five because the food is absolutely amazing and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Had to knock off a star though because my husband had one beer then they ran out. Then they ran out of ice so couldn’t have any more cocktails (highly recommend the negroni -delicious) which was disappointing considering the price tag. This place is definitely a one of a kind type find but to consistently charge the prices it does, it needs to invest in an ice machine and stock it’s beer fridge better.

I ordered Salmon sushi, scallop sushi, Uni sushi, Beef tataki. Sushi were flesh and tasty. I enjoyed them a lot. Even though I didn’t speak good English, waitress tried to understand me a lot. That was very nice of her.

Absolutely amazing food - went on 1st October! Would definitely recommend if you like Japanese food but then my partner doesn’t like fish too much and easily found things he liked the sound of and loved the taste of. The hot stone was such a great experience. We went due to the Time Out offer for our date night and ended up buying loads of add ons because everything sounded yummy (it all tasted great too). Honestly I love sushi and could have eaten everything! The staff were attentive and generally the loveliest you can imagine. The ambience was relaxed yet still high end - such a gem in Angel. Would defo recommend the crunchy hot stone maki roll, scallop carpaccio, hot stone beef for main with rice & spinach with the green tea matcha cheesecake 😋

This is by far the most authentic Sushi experience I have enjoyed so far in London. The presentation is amazing, the staff couldn’t have done more and most importantly the ingredient quality shines through in the expert cooking. The cocktails were a delicious touch and a nice way to wash down some amazing cuisine.

First time I had dinner at Hot Stone on 22 July. As a Japanese, I was impressed with the A5 rank wagyu beef (of course its much more pricy than having in Japan) but why not especially after the lockdown lifted. Quite small portion for that prices but very fresh and tasty. Sushi I tried a few and I found the eel was a bit over cooked and too much sauce on. But this is my personal preference. Very friendly staff. I will go back to have more beef! thank you.
