Westernised Srilankan Food. Many Srilankan and South Indian Restaurants in Tooting but we chose this because it was the first one when we were walking from the hotel.Disappointed by the name, few to mention pepper chicken was prepared with coconut milk. Mutton roll and Kothu parota were the Srilankan traditional dishes but not the best in Apollo.Staffs were friendly.
Superb Tamil place. Its BYOB so feel free to load up at the Sainsburys at Tooting Broadway (why they dont have a chilled booze section...?) Good selection of starters, main courses, all full to the brim for less than £25 a head including service. Highlights for me Mutton Rolls, Chicken 65 and Dosai filled with potatoes. Delicious.
Very nice restaurant, food was amazing with the addition of bringing your own beer which is great. (sorry about the miscommunication about the picture on the wall. My bad😔😔) very nice staff also about the aforementioned picture incident. Will be back if allowed
Just really great food in unpretentious surroundings. Definitely coming back for more!
Appalling experience. I called a number of times and eventually someone answered the phone. On their website it said it had dum biryani and they were open from 12-22:30 on Sundays. Not so, theyre open from12-15:00. We booked and entered an empty restaurant at 14:00. It was empty except for 2 non English speaking staff. He asked if wed booked, then reminded us it would close in an hour. They also didnt do half the items they claim to have in their website. I didnt trust the freshness of their food as they had no customers, so we changed our minds and went elsewhere. Nothing like on there website. Most unwelcoming. Beware
The spicy mutton biryani is SPICY! So good though, will definitely be back if I have a chance. Very fast and friendly service, delicious tender mutton.
Just the best Sri Lankan food and its consistently great every time.
Lovely food , very buzzy .
The chicken tikka starter was generous portion as a starter , not bad flavour but the quality of meat( full of water, probably packed with soya protein to make it bigger!) and the very red colour of the meat spoilt it allFried king prawn starter were small and presented really poorly on a plateThe mutton and special biriyani tasted and looked exactly the sameWe asked for one of them biryani extra spicy only and we got them both extra hotI had to order mango drink for my partner to cook down the heat!!!The service was quick and nice to usBYOB is positive but the rest need to improve
4-star food. 3-star service. Theres informal and then theres you need to be gone within the hour on a Saturday evening when we didnt have a booking so were stuck on a random table at the back of the restaurant. I didnt mind. I love the unpretentiousness of Tooting curry places. Anywhere else in London and the Apollo would be a tatty, badly decorated gem. In Tooting? There are better places with better service. Id still recommend a visit, but dont go out of your way. They dont think they need your custom.
Tasty food, no frills dining.
Lovely thin porcelain plates to eat your royal crab masala off of, little tools to help you tweeze the sweet crabby flecks out of the shell—soft and sweet enough to suck on. all the curries come on silver plates—nesting the coconut rice—it all looks delicious and home cooked//warmth with lots of love. i’m obsessed with the interior of printed fantasy lands that exist on earth framed to mark their poetry and importance to us as you delve into the greatest of feasts. i came here with my siblings it was so lovely
Great authentic Sri Lanka food in a no nonsense setting. Lovely dosas plus many other dishes to explore from vadai to string hoppers. Remember to bring your own beer or wine.
Cheap and cheerful Sri Lankan curry house. Big Bhajis and ‘bring your own booze’; what’s not to love? Saag chicken was delicious. Beware the Rogan Josh though, it’s incredibly spicy!
Despite the poor reviews we decided to give this place a try and it was HORRIBLE! Waste of time and money. The menu had more items for a typical Indian restaurant than a South-Indian/ Sri-Lankan restaurant. Service was really poor with one man running the whole place and literally shouting at you and at the back of the restaurant. The food was below average. The guy got our order wrong and even charged us for it. He got us a chapati which was rock hard and when we called him to discuss the matter he started shouting at us in front of all the customers. He’s extremely unprofessional and asked us what we thought a parata was?! Later, he brought out a packet of frozen parata that you can buy from the shops to show us what a parata was. I mean if they’re not making and serving us freshly made breads and sundries what’s the point of going out to eat there?Really disappointed with the whole experience. I’d say avoid going to this restaurant if you wanna have a good time in a nice atmosphere. The food also made us sick. So, avoid at all costs and treat yourself with something better.
Seating for round 34, With a small step to enter, seating is narrow so wheelchairs can be a problem.Once you have ordered and you have finished that course your plate is left and the next course brought before you so you are dining off the same plate,I can understand the knife and fork been used but this was a first.Very popular venue, great cuisine. As service.Alas the restaurant dose not do dessert what so ever. Which was a shame
I like the food, no pretentiousness. Great value for money. Worth to pay a vist. 4 stars because unfortunately I cant get delivery to my place.
Absolutely loved it. Food was amazing and staff were nice. I notice some people have complained about the decor and the service here...but its a curry house in Tooting. You shouldnt go here expecting silver service!Loved it! Highly recommend
Worst food ever. Ordered masala dosa which was thick, chewy and undercooked. The sambar and potato didnt taste like anything whilst the chutney was an overly sweet blob of coconut.Aubergine curry was a creamy mess with bits of hard skin in it.I NEVER throw away food but this was so bad I binned it.
For the price, the food is not worth it.
Delicious food, reasonably priced and a wide array of vegetarian options. We came in late but they accommodated us and kept the restaurant open for us! The food is Sri Lankan but with a good few familiar curries alongside more unusual specialties.
The one star is for the complete lack of effort in whatever they did.the evening started with our waiter/the only guy there, wondering how to put 5 people into a table of 4, (only took him 5 minutes and we totally werent starving). After this incident we ordered the food with the waiter that everybody dreams of. We ordered the drinks and me and my sister played a fun game of: whos drink is more out of date, after a one year win from myself we began to work out how to put 10 plates onto a 4 person table. The chicken korma which I got had the texture of cod and a flavour of its delicious sauce. After me and my family had finished paying we joked about cleaning our palette with bleach. Overall not a good place to eat and you would be better off going to McDonalds.
Good food although not made to Sri Lankan taste. Can request upon ordering. Book in advance to avoid disappointment.
Hands down best curry I have had in my life, every time. Service is a little rusty and feels a little stressed, but honesty, the food absolutely makes up for it. Also very good value for money. I recommend the mutton curry, the egg rice and the chicken tikka starter! Great place 🤤
Food did not taste or look good. And they don’t have any meals suitable for kids.
Great for staff buffets!I used to work at St Georges Hospital, and it was a long-held tradition for me to take the team out for a curry at the start and end of their rotation. The cheapest place to host this was at the Apollo Banana Leaf and I have never encountered any issues with the food or the staff. A few humble tips- cash is king (always); ask the manager what he recommends and how much to order (they dont like customers leaving food uneaten); bring your own booze if you must (they dont charge corkage) but I think its only courteous to offer a more generous tip for them to clear your beer cans and wine bottles at the end of your meal. If you go often enough youll be treated differently...
I used to love Apollo banana leaf but I was really disappointed when I visited with a couple of friends last night. I had pre booked a table but was greeted rudely by a waiter who told us that we had to leave by 8.30. we were shouted at and the whole experience felt rushed, we ended up having to down our drinks and another waiter clapped at us to leave quicker. When we refused to pay service the lady at the desk was rude and there was no apology. Food was average probably wont go back, there are way better places for curry in tooting
Best curry Ive found in London. Tooting has a lot of curry options, but its very difficult to look past ABL for quality - the food is consistently exceptional. Come back a few times, grab a bottle of something on the way (BYOB), and take a tour of the menu - its all good. Also, vegan options are plentiful, and delicious.
Best curry house weve found in London by far. Paneer 65 as a starter followed by the mushroom and aubergine curries are amazing, cant replicate it anywhere!
I was reassured when I realised that most of the 1 star reviews were due to the service (I only really care about the food) so I thought I’d take my family (who are over from Canada & had heard that this is the best town for a curry). We were not disappointed at all :) The food was delicious and the service was prompt and very friendly. I would highly recommend!
Amazing food – some of the best in Tooting – in a cosy, homey surrounding.
Best Sri Lankan food and price! Would highly recommend. People mentioned the service are rude, which theyre not, its a language barrier. Theyre Sri Lanka staff which makes the whole experience seem more authentic!
Really tasty and cheap
Love the food here! It’s grown more and more popular over the years. Would recommend reserving a table on the weekends. Also can highly recommended the Aubergine curry, vegetable kothu, and the vegetable rolls!
This top is top dollar!!! Food is delicious - flavoursome and filling. Plus its BYOB! I cant say the waiters are overly attentive however...
Too bland service extremely poor. No social distancing. Poor quality
Food was great however service was quite poor. Waited for ages for mutton rolls then complained and they were still served to the table next to us. Had to wait for new rolls to be cooked, asked to be removed from the bill politely and we were refused.
Best sri Lankan food in london
Very good food since I found it around 2 years ago I have been many times. Not ever had a problem, gets busy around rush times but has a good vibe when there.
Came here on a recommendation, however disappointingly we found the food to be rather average. The menu is extensive so perhaps there are a few choice dishes that stand out, but we werent able to find them on this occasion. I also found a few hairs in my dish, but after reading a previous review about the outrage this caused, I thought best to leave it. The bad service was expected, which felt like you were in a satirical sketch show. Its bring your own booze which is always good. Wouldnt come here again.
Went here for dinner with a few friends. The staff is incredibly rude. The food is average and portions are small. They charged us £0.99 for ice! When it came time for us to leave they said we had to leave immediately as they had a reservation for our table despite half of the tables being empty. Wont go here again. There are loads of other better indian/south indian places to go to in Tooting.
The food here is great but the service is abysmal. We spent £70 on an order which arrived and was burst in the bag, called them up to sort a replacement and they refused, shouted at us and then hung up the phone.
Heard a lot about this place as friends live locally and eat here regularly.Had a beer in The Manor whilst waiting for a table as its very popular.Serves good Indian food at very reasonable prices. Had the Mutton Vindaloo which was pretty tasty. Will be a bit more adventurous next time I return. BYOB
Dated decor, but great food. Was apprehensive at first glance of the exterior and the interior needs a bit of an overhaul. However, the food was great. We shared a Chicken Korma and the Chicken Dosa, both of which were great. No complaints in terms of service and felt it was good value overall.
The one star is for the food, the lack of the other 4 is due to the awful service which we were charged for at the end without the option to remove. We waited 30 mins to even order and the cheque seemed to come quicker than anything else. We got out as soon as we could. I dont understand how this place has a rating of 4.1.
Best lunch I didnt cook myself in literally years - count me as a regular from now on!
Went for but did not eat as found staff extremely rude.Raised his voice in an aggressive manner to my partner and left her feeling very intimidated. Food may great I will never know as I would never go back.Very bad service and very very rude people.Went to a Philippine restaurant in the market and received great service and great food for a fraction of the price.
Food is good. Of course they have tasty food. But customer service is average. Need to be improved.
Amazing food (+BYOB) and lovely staff. You cannot go wrong with a trip to Apollo banana leaf!! Highly recommend
We had an enjoyable meal here. Nothing fancy but good food and good service
Delicious food, staff are so random and hilarious. My best friend and I had a great evening of drinking, eating and making friends with the waiters and fellow diners. Will def come over and over xxx
My favourite restaurant in the whole of London. It doesnt look like much from the outside but the food is absolutely wonderful. So tasty and comes in vast quantities. BYOB. Staff are friendly. Price is amazing.
We have been to this restaurant with my family, food was average, not proper sri lankan or south indian, food price is expensive and they put service charge 10% as well, we never go back again to this place.
The service was nice and the food was ok. Unfortunately everything was very oily. I will give it another go and change to 5 stars if it was a one time heavy hand with oil ;)
If in Tooting area a must go to restaurant.. its BYO and the good is simply delicious! Very good quality and even better price.. been coming here regularly for over two years and never disappoints
Is ok but nothing great,I dont understand why is so popular around here, the food is really spicy but not that tasty. The place is small and noisy.
We had the fixed price set lunch good value. I have read the other reviews about the manager but dont let that put you off. The manager is a bit like Basil Fawlty in manner but the good makes up
What the devile is going on. Came for a mates birthday, arrived at 8, we weren’t allowed to order till 8:30ish, food took its time and arrived at 9:30ish, wasn’t all the correct stuff too, what did they do about it — absolutely nothing. Very understaffed for a Saturday night, slightly bizarre customer service behaviour and is evident from other reviews too. Food was of a good standard though, so maybe just do takeaways from now on 👍🏻
Absolutely amazing place! Such a good reasonable price and the food was really delicious. Definitely advise everyone in the area to go.
Worst restaurant in Tooting London.Manager is horrible, He dont Know how to behave with the customers,I strongly recommend not to go there..Even the food was not up to the mark.Wastage of Money. 💰I want to give ratings in negative..If you have any plan to go there, Dont go there..I am repeating again .. Dont go there..
Stunning food! The vegetarian options were also amazing! Nothing we didnt like and the best mushroom rice Ive had in my life!
Have been here a couple times and the food has been great. However, this time round there were three long hairs in my friends food (one of which was actually extracted by the waitress). We wouldve been happy to just have it replaced but the manager immediately got angry and started shouting at us in front of a restaurant full of people, claiming it couldnt be from the kitchen because all the chefs are male and have short hair and that it was from my friends head (the hair wasnt just on top of the food, it was mixed in). He refused to make the food again and cancelled her order, storming off. The level of rudeness was just unacceptable.
Amazing food, the dosas are a reason to come alone but they have a great selection of curries - some traditional Sri Lankan but also the tikka masala English favourite. Service leaves a bit to be desired but the food more than makes up for that. Run by lovely people, just a different waiting service to what you might get elsewhere. Would recommend!
Food is ok. Not that much great. Service charge of 10 % on food ordered will be added in your bill. Service also not good. Overall I wont suggest this place.
Love the food here always amazing. Great family run feel too. Authentic. Been to south India and the food is the same
The food is great! Portions are quite big. We got more than expected when ordering. Staff is very friendly and the bring your own booze policy is also a great reason to go!
Yesterday I ate the tilapia vindaloo, crab masala and the aubergine curry amongst along with Sri Lankan classics like kothu and spring hopper. The curries were all well balanced with great acidity and fat content. The aubergine curry especially, I still think about it today, it’s much creamier than described on menu and the aubergine skins add texture. The starters and sides were also all lovely and look forward to returning as their other offerings in these categories are extensive and there seem to be other gems. The decor was quite pleasant, although with some notes of hotel or conference room it felt very genuine and a great arena to enjoy the BYOW aspect. It’s a warm atmosphere not stiff at all.
Best curry house in London. Food is amazing and the staff are really friendly. BYOB is a nice touch as well.
No decency with customers no respect to customers ... greedy for money and order. The taste is very horrible .. worst behavior ever by the restaurant.i have tried almost every Asian restaurant but trust me this is a very very very bad Choice.
I am so disappointed that the food was disgusting !I ordered veg rolls and they gave me mutton rolls! I only realised after ate it :(I would not recommend this Restaurant !The food was also not properly cooked and smell of coconut milk. This Restaurant food made me food poison so I am gonna call the food standard Agency...
Very nice food! Highly recommended. You better know in advance that they close at 11pm and you have to finish before that, otherwise they will show you how annoyed they are, thats the only negative.
Very very good restaurant! Food was incredibly good, great portions, great price.100% coming back!
We eat here regularly- its cheaper than a takeaway. We absolutely love it, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Lovely service too. We have taken lots of friends for get-togethers. I just hope it never changes!
One of the best Sri-Lankan restaurant in London. A good mix of flavors and spice for all dishes.Service is average but they can afford to be when the food is at that level.Booking in advance is advised for weekends.Highly recommend.
Had 5 different vegetarian dishes. They all looked and tasted exactly the same, insipid and pale, Wed over ordered and asked for one of the dishes to be packaged so we could take it home. The waiter dumped an empty curry tin and lid on the table. The service charge was automatically added to the bill. Had I noticed I I would have removed it, .The restaurant used to be a cheap with tacky decor and a shouty waiter but nice food. Theres now a new shouty waiter but same cheesy alpine scenes on the wall but its no longer cheap and the food is poor. Last time I went I said to myself never again I must remember not to go again
Excellent food every time and at a good price. Ive eaten at the Banana leaf many times and have never been disappointed. This place is always busy and I can see why great quality food at a low price. 10 out of 10 every time!
Absolutely delicious food & really affordable too!
Although the decor leaves a lot to be desired the food is incredible and the prices exceptional. The fact that its full every night its open speaks for itself. And as its BYOB its even cheaper (if youre drinking)
The service is simplistic, meaning if you want something you gotta ask for it but by no means unfriendly like some reviews say.The food is amazing. Byob if you wanna have a drink. Would recommend and Ill be back
The interior could probably do with a fresh luck of paint, but the food is great – there is plenty to choose from and the staff were welcoming. The food was delicious and inexpensive.
Superb food in a rough and ready setting. If youre looking for very much above average curry, with some interesting options, particularly fish, this is the place to go. We massively over-ordered, and it was still super cheap. Bring your own, with no corkage.
Nice food but could have been warmer. Friendly service. Would go again.
BYOB helps make it very cheap (the food is inexpensive already). Unfortunately, even for a cheap eat, the food doesnt taste very nice. Its take-away style curry with a Sri Lankan theme; but not a very authentic one. Expect heavy, overly rich, creamy sauces and going home feeling greased up. Its a shame, I had heard positive things, perhaps it has deteriorated. There are much better-tasting places to eat curry (and BYOB if thats your thing) in Tooting.
Fun cheap curry house. Most of the food was really good, service was fast and friendly, a fun place for dinner with friends. Note its cash and BYOB.
There is no point for you to come and waste your money. This is our first time coming to this damn restaurant and this makes us disappointed. First, we asked them if they were seats but one old man. Shouted at us saying to wait for 1h and 45min when he clearly didn’t see that they was a table that needed to be clean. They took a long time to let us order our starters and main. 20 minutes later, we ordered and they gave our starters first. One woman dropped our cashew parroda and they said that we have to pay for an another one. My relatives who came with us had got food poisoning and I definitely think that the prices for a little starter and menu was definitely not understandable. They were various strands of hair and they told us that it’s not refundable.PLEASE DO NOT WISH TO GO TO THIS RESTAURANT
Excellent service and amazing food.. 100% recommended! Plus, cant go wrong with BYO
Had such an amazing dinner with friends here. Had lots of cheap and delicious starters for under £6 each and then tried a few Sri Lankan main dishes - was all amazing. Also was able to take our own wine as no alcohol there. Such an affordable and tasty night out. No music playing and very average decor, but fantastic staff! Will be back soon :)
Came in alone (working in London for the week and staying nearby). I gestured to the host it was just me and he shrugged and appeared cross that I wanted seating so I left. So much for hospitality.
