The confluence of Alaknanda and Baghirathi river is at Dev prayag and here is where the mighty river Ganga starts. It has beautiful view of both the rivers merging and everyone would love this sight. The water is very clear and clean. To reach devprayag from rishikesh, you can take a bus early morning from the bus stand around 6-7 am and reach in about 4 hours time. Checkout the pictures taken by my camera.

Devprayag - Gangas birthplace - Confluence of Alaknanda & BhagirathiTake bath carefully as flow of river is high and there are almost nill security measures.DONT risk your life going too far or deep in river.Park car along roadside and take downstairs to the confluence. You will notice small market in midway, where you can purchase things at nominal price.Pandits may ask for Dakshana, which is not mandatory. Keep your belongings safe from pickpockets as well.

Marked by the confluence point of rivers Alaknanda and Bhagirathi, Devprayag is a religious hub and is quite popular among tourists coming for pilgrimage or seeking some solitude close to nature.Dotted with ancient temples and idols amidst the lush green surroundings, this place is a very beautiful and serene place. It derives much of its religious significance from the dynamic and vibrant natural elements that surround it such as the rivers. Dasharathachal Peak, Chandrabadani temple and Raghunathji temple are among some of the popular attractions here.At a distance of 75 kms from Rishikesh and 326 from delhi.Best for weekend getaway while covering Rishikesh.

It is the confluence of the Bhagirathi and the Alalkananda . It seems as if bith the rivers bifurcated the Himalayan ranges and mingled into one trench . Bith the currents mingled into one and headed down towards the south . The Bhagirathi is somewhat like a sportive girl that loves to run and jump . On the other hans the Alakananda is calm and quiet . The water of the Alakananda is green and that of the Bhagirathi is soily green. Thre are beautiful small town on tne both slopes of the confluence, very picturesque as if the houses and the hotels are meticulously placed on the slopes of the mountains. A temple with Hindu deity of Shiva can be found on the Ghat of the confluence. Hundreds of peopl can be found bathing, worshipping and offering foods ti their ancestors . Thre is a terrace overlooking the confluence and the natural scenery. Its a worth visiting palace .

Its an amazing place in Devprayag, where Sangam of Bhagirathi & Alaknanda rivers, which lead to formation of holy Ganges river. The view is amazing since a river which has green water merges into another river with brown water, coming from 2 different origins merging to form Ganges river. This is basically a holy place, with temples and nice views to offer. Not much commercialised hence you wont find fancy restaurants, eateries or options as such. But a peaceful & beautiful place nonetheless for ones who prefer exploring someplace new than usual hill stations they visit.

Devprayag is one of the 5 prayags i.e. sangams in Uttarakhand. Here the calm Alaknanda river meets the furious Bhagirathi river to form the legendary Ganga river. You can easily see the difference in color and flow of the two merging rivers. Please note that the Tehri Dam is located upstream of this place and when it releases some water, the water level at Devprayag increases relatively quickly.

Memories from a not so distant summerIts been smooth cruising through Rishikesh and Srinagar. Devprayag, the confluence of River Alaknanda and Bhagirathi makes a grand appearance. Situated at an altitude of 2723 feet, it is the place where both the rivers ( Alaknanda and Bhagirathi) joins to form the most celebrated river of the world, Ganga. There are a few things on the earth as graceful as a confluence of two mighty rivers joining to form a third giant. It is a delightful and fascinating sight to watch the Bhagirathi ( much clear water and heavy flow) and Alaknanda ( not so clear water with lesser flow) mingling to form the Ganga that flows majestically through sculptured channels carved through the rocks. The most important temple at Devprayag is the temple of Raghunathji, which was first constructed by the Maharaja of Tehri Garhwal. The temple is 80 ft high with a tall image of Lord Vishnu made of black granite. Sri Vishnu and Sri Raghunath ji are two names of the same ultimate One.
