This is the view for lifetime. I bet you havent seen anything like this before. Such a wonderful and colorful scene of river confluence. The bold and distinct colors of rivers Alaknanda and Bhagirathi makes the entire place so lively and awestruck. Bhagirathi (Greenish in color) emerges from gangotri and Alaknanda (Muddy in color) emerges from Badrinath. Their confluence is known as Devprayag. People visits this place specially to take a holy dip. Nothing much to do beyond taking a dip. If you are around Haridwar or Rishikesh this place is a must visit.
Nice place every one should visit one time
The Alaknanda rises at the confluence and feet of the Satopanth and Bhagirath Kharak glacier in Uttarakhand near the border with Tibet. The headwaters of the Bhagirathi are formed at Gaumukh, at the foot of the Gangotri glacier and Khatling glaciers in the Garhwal Himalaya. These two sacred rivers join to form the Ganges (Ganga) in Devprayag.....!!!

Very beautiful view from Top. Please visit this beautiful place near to Rishikesh. Please take a holy bath on sitting on the banks of the river. But be careful. Dont cross the iron chain attached to the ghat. Just enjoy the view from the banks of the river. River Alakananda meets river Bhagirathi. In summer season you easily identify the colours of these rivers. Capture amazing views of the river with your smartphone or DSLR. Lot of buses and shared vehicles are there from rishikesh to reach this beautiful place. Enjoy your trip.
Holy wonderful
Dev PrayagAmong the Panch-prayag, or five main confluences of these sacred rivers, Vishnu Prayag on the Alaknanda is the first. It is then joined by the Dhauli, Nandakini, Pindar, Mandakini, and Bhagirathi Rivers, respectively. Deva Prayag is the fifth and last confluence, where the Bhagirathi joins the Alakananda and Mandakini rivers. At this point the rivers take on the name of the Ganges, flowing downstream past Dev Prayag. At the Dev Prayag, the Bhagirathi flows in rapids with strong currents, meeting a much calmer Alaknanda River, which is slower and more sediment-laden. For this reason, there is a strong visual contrast at the confluence of these two rivers. The Bhagirathi runs down a steep declivity with rapid force, roaring and foaming over large rock fragments in its bed, while the placid Alakananda flows smoothly and gently until the point of its turbulent confluence
Devaprayag is spiritual town located on the meeting point of holy river Bhagirathi and Alakhananda. Both river having different water colour can be observed clearly. Alot of temple and worshiped place are here. This town is located on the slop of hill but never distorted due to land slide or earth quack.
It is one of the panch prayag of the Alaknanda river where Alaknanda river, Bhagirathi river and Saraswati river meet and take the name Ganga. It is 75 km away from Rishikesh.

Marked by the confluence point of rivers Alaknanda and Bhagirathi, Devprayag is a religious hub and is quite popular among tourists coming for pilgrimage or seeking some solitude close to nature.Situated amidst rolling Himalayan ranges, Devprayag is a popular pilgrimage centre for Hindus. Dotted with ancient temples and idols amidst the lush green surroundings, this place is a very beautiful and serene place. It derives much of its religious significance from the dynamic and vibrant natural elements that surround it such as the rivers. Dasharathachal Peak, Chandrabadani temple and Raghunathji temple are among some of the popular attractions here.
Two holy rivers Alaknanda and Bhagirathi from the core of Himalayas meet here to form Bhagirathi which is also know as holy river Ganga. It is famous for the meeting of these two rivers. You can have holy bath at the Sangam and can offer prayer to many temples situated here. It is about 70 km from Rishikesh.
Here is where the Gangaji gets its name. And what style, with which the Bhagirathi and Alakh Nanda confluence as they rush towards Rishikesh.Historic, Ancient, Conservative and Pious.
We visited this Sangam last month. It is very beautiful to see the water from the two rivers flowing in two different colours near the confluence. After a distance, the water joins and flows in a single colour. It was heavily raining there last month and the water in the rivers were turbulent with mud and dirt and still they maintained the two distinct colours. We could not visit any temples there as we were on our journey from Joshimath to Rishikesh on our return leg of our Chaar Dhaam Yatra.
Very good location.
Devprayag : This place is famous for the confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi. After this join of two rivers the combined river is officially known as the river Ganga. Alaknanda river starts from Alakpuri glacier ahead of Badrinath Dham meets Bhagirathi here. Bhagirathi river starts from Gomukh glacier which is 18 KM from Gangotri temple.Really beautiful & lovely place. I am very happy.
Devprayag, 37 Kms from Biasi and 70 km from Rishikesh, is the first important town on this route. Here the Bhagirathi from Gaumukh and the Alaknanda from Alkapuri glaciers north of Sri Badrinath meet and become the sacred Ganga. In the literal sense, Devprayag is the birthplace of the Ganga and is next only to Prayagraj in its importance as a confluence. It is a delightful and fascinating sight to watch the Bhagirathi, and Alaknanda mingling to form the Ganga that flows majestically through sculptured channels carved through the rocks. This sight reminds one of the story of King Bhagirath’s undaunted efforts in carrying the Ganga in a canal to the Ashram of sage Kapil where the ashes of 60000 sons of king Sagar were to be cleansed. Garhwal is known for five Prayags ( Panch Prayags) and Dev Prayag is the first of these to be followed by Rudra Prayag, Karna Prayag, Nand Prayag and Vishnu Prayag.
The place is holy sacred place of confluence of Bhagirathi and Alaknanda Rivers. Its a divine feeling in itself being there. The green water of Bhagirathi and Brown Water of Alaknanda meets here and from Here the holy River Ganga takes her name as Ganga .

I dont know how someone can give below 5 rating to this place. Please add this place in your bucket list on the top priority. It is better to visit this place while you are passing by from here.If you go to Keadrnath or Badrinath then this place comes on the way and it is 80 Km from Rishikesh. The sangam of Baghirathi and Alaknanda is divine, you can take holy bath but with full care as this ghat dangerous also,(Children not recommended to take bath).Water is very cold and clean so dont create any type of plastic pollution there.Dont forget to click stunning photographs of yourself and make video in which you can listen the sound of Flow of water. You can do up-down from Rishikesh but you must avoid on Friday and Saturday due to heavy rush of Rafting Lovers.
There is a Gurukul of Swami Ramdev in Devprayag, where destitute children are given education in Vedic education and Sanatani tradition and they are also nurtured.
The confluence of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers is known as Dev Prayag. After this confluence, this stream is known as the Ganges River. It is situated at an altitude of 1500 feet above the sea. This place is near Garhwal, 70 kilometers from Rishikesh. The attractions here are the Shiva Temple and Raghunath Temple established here.
The confluence of the river Alaknanda and the Bhagirathi, from where this river is then known as Maa Ganga
