The ingredients are fresh, the quantity is sufficient, and the choices are varied. It is worth a visit. Located in the center of Christchurch, very close to Hagrid Park. The price is affordable, if you pass by, you can try it if you dont have a good restaurant.

At last, great dumplings. The last time I ate such delicious, plump freshly made dumplings (pork and chicken) was in Japan 2 years ago. Most in NZ are disappointing, but not Zen. What a find! Friendly people too.

Food so so, little to choose for vegetarians/vegans, nothing Zen about it really, serve on cheap paper boxes even for dine in. On the other hand, great location, cozy place, easy to find. Final assessment, two on five. Not returning in a hurry.

Stunning View!! Great location with accessible car park. Pretty fresh salmon, melt in the mouth. Tried chicken dumplings for takeaway, still keep beautiful taste even left it overnight. Would like to try sushi next time. A highly recommend if you hang out in the CBD, or work in the city. BTW, good-looking manager with exellent service. Even the chopsticks offered is with high quality!

You go there for sushi and dumplings. More so for their amazing dumplings. I ordered mixed dumplings so I could try them all. I couldnt pick a favorite - all of them were amazing. The service is also good. They mixed up my order but they gave me 6 extra dumplings on the house. The place is small and has only a couple tables. Its mostly for take away. However, there is a park nearby that has benches where you can eat.

I would give it a 6 ⭐️ if I could. Rice are soft and shrimp crusty sushi is crusty! Dumpling sauces are amazing and the Boss gave me xtra spicy, so friendly! Higher hight recommended!

Really tasty dumpling. I cant decide whether I like the steamed or fried, or chicken, pork or beef so its a toss up on how you feel on the day. Anyhow seats are quite limited here and its all outdoor so Ill advise you take away and find another place outside to eat as you stroll along. I also love the wasabi packets they offer here, strong and addictive!

Very rare for me to give a 5 star review but this place deserves it. This is a good example of a place showing its not just fine dining that gets the best feedback. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful, happy to explain things and well priced. Nothing gourmet of fancy just very good quality food. Fanatic food only gets you so far, you need great service to go with it, this place does great with both. Free range chicken and pork, recyclable parts used here too.

Just launched there and after my first 5/6 pieces which were so delicious decide to go for more. Owner recommended salmon and beef. We also add one more eel.All was perfect. Fresh ingredients with top quality rice and smiling friendly personnel.They definitely become one of the top 5 sushi places for me in whole NZ and number 1 in Christchurch.Happy to see people focused on quality first.Well done.Thank you all there.

This is probably the best sushi & dumpling in town! The sushi is super fresh, the dumpling is freshly cooked on order. I have been to Japan and it’s difficult to find a similar one like what I had in Japan. Zen Sushi & Dumplings are selling the real quality Japanese food. It’s a small shop with a cozy environment around. You can sit anywhere around the area. Highly recommended!

No vegetable sushi option during the holiday. Only dumpling. Super disappointed. Taste is average. Only one person in front of the counter, he tried to serve the dumpling that we ordered to others. (Shop was empty and only 2 tables he had to serve. Only a few customers, how he can forget it? Not welcome, poor service. Can’t understand why here is popular.

Food is fine, but total sustainability fail. Packaging is a recycling nightmare, and no recycling bins provided anyway.

Definitely of a much higher quality compared to many other sushi places in NZ, love the miso soup with the added chilli kick as well!

Everytime we go in here there is never any food and yes we have tried going at a variety of times. Wonder if its under new management because the guy that used to run it was awesome, super friendly, always full cabinets and would always offer to make whatever we wanted.

The dumplings are absolutely delicious. I love that they try to not use plastic in their serve ware. I do think they are a little over priced. I also wish they had an option to choose how many dumplings you want. Deciding between 6 and 12 is hard when I usually want 8 or 10. Very friendly staff too!

We ate at Zen yesterday and I had to go again today. Amazing quality, super friendly staff and also enjoyed a chat with the owner. Thank you for the eel =)My favorite is the salmon nigiri....it melts in your mouth - also tried the other nigiris such as tuna, tuna tataki, beef tataki, eel, tamago and the crispy tempura prawn - each of them tasted GREAT.If you like sushi we highly recommend to stop at Zen! Going early is probably best because they are really popular.

Came here a few times and we always loved their sushis, fresh and yummy. Very friendly owner.Not many varieties to choose from if you come after busy hours. Tried noodles soup and rice for the first time but sorry to say we were quite disappointed. Not much taste with the noodles and small portion for the price. Noticed that the prices went up on some of the items too. Would prefer reusable utensils/bowls.Will definitely come back for the sushi :)

Probably the worst Sushi Ive ever had. Ordered Teryaki Chicken Donburi bowl, expecting it to be fresh. Came in a small take away box for $15.00, was served with cold rice and chicken. Chicken was dry with no sauce and the salad was not fresh at all with squishy tomato. Threw it in the bin after two mouthfuls as it tasted old af too. Would NOT recommend.

Stopped by here for a quick lunch on our way to the west coast. The owner was super friendly! Really enjoyed chatting about how he opened the shop with his partner and how he sources his ingredients from the best places all around the world. The dumplings were fantastic and really creative. Will definitely stop by for some great food and conversation whenever I’m in the area again!

Always order dumplings and sushi since last year which are always delicious. Had the noodles first time which is the new item on the menu, it was good enough for a restaurant that had t it as new dishes.

We never eat such a nice Sushi. Also for my girlfriend vegetarian they offered a dish. Nice experience. One day we will travel again to your country and will pass by. I will recogment you to my friends who are going to new zealand.

Some of the best dumplings in town!!! This is a takeaway spot so dont expect a romantic sit down dinner. The dumplings are steamed (or, as I prefer, fried) fresh so expect a 10-15min wait. I promise you though, your patience will be rewarded. Ill definitely be looking for any excuse to get back here as often as possible! If patience isnt your virtue, there is also a great looking cabinet of sushi that almost looks to artistic to eat.

Incredible sushi, tasty miso soup and a variety of dumplings (chicken was my favorite.) The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. This place had to s of takeaway traffic during lunch which is always a good sign.

We stopped by near shop closing during our travel. Limited choices near shop closing. Still fine food. I like the dumpling with thin skin (like Japanese dumpling) and fried salmon with fresh salad. Only crab meat is average, I will skip it. Sauces are all free to grab and tastes great! Hospitable owner runs the place with pride and passion. Impressive little shop.

My wife and I wanted to take our kids to a good dumpling restaurant and happened to walk by Zen Sushi and Dumpling. We placed our order and everyone loved all of the dumplings. We even ordered more. They were delicious and the owner made sure we had everything we needed. He was great.

Salmon is super fresh and tasty, King salmon from Nelson in New Zealand. The ingredients used are free range poultry hence their dumplings both steamed and pan fried are super tasty. Boss is very friendly and shared the history of the shop with me. Highly recommended to those who would like a fusion of Chinese and Japanese food.

By far the best pan fried vegetable dumplings Ive ever eaten. The kind and thoughtful service here is unparalleled within Christchurch. The vegetable sushi is made fresh and consists of the correct temperature of sushi rice (no dreaded refrigerator in use). I highly recommend this establishment and commend its owner.

Extremely good customer service and really tasty food! All meat is free range. They had both pre-packed sushi and choose your own from a cabinet. Reasonably priced and the miso was good too. Even the chopsticks were good quality.

Service is always beyond amazing. Never had a unfilled glass here. And the server always happy to go ask what a dish is on the belt. They have cucumber salad, seaweed salad, calamari salad, spring rolls, potstickers and sushi going around the belt. Not to mention sake bombs. You could see the chefs cutting the fish. The rolls themselves were o.k., definitely for the price. I would eat here again.

I go here every time I am in Christchurch, and the food is always amazing! Their sauces are delicious, and they complement the dumplings perfectly. The sushi is always fresh and appetising. The staff is so welcoming and friendly! I cant wait to go back.

The best sushi and dumplings in the city. We found this place while the buskers were on and loved it so much we have considered ourselves regulars.The owner Richmond is very friendly and welcoming and treated us like friends rather than customers.We would definitely recommend :)
