IIT Madras Structural Engineering division is one of the finest engineering department in the campus. The infrastructure is not so unique, its a normal framed structure. The professors, staffs and project trainees here are well administered. They have sound knowledge in there works. Departmental labs are big. Parking available.

Well trained technical staffs and brilliant Professors along with hard working staffs combined to work in creating safer environment. I have been working here for past 2 years and this place is amazing.

Structural engineering laboratory at iit madras has been part of department of civil engineering fromnlate 1970s. It is one of the pioneering laborataries for research and consultancy in the area of civil infrastructure. It has contributed immensely for the nation building through its services. This place has the capabilities to handle all kinds of structural testing. Some of the popular world equipment available are a 40 tonne UTM, a 200 tonne compression testing machine, a 600 tonne compression testing machine, a biaxial shake table, reconfigurable RC wall, actuators with a capacity varying from 35 tonne to 100 tonne.This place also has a dedicated laboratory for structural glass testing.
