This is a1000 year old temple abounds with Legends is built by the Cholas.  The place was earlier called Vilvavanam (forest of Vilvam trees) and later came to be known as Villivakkam. The sthalavriksham is Vilvam. Sage Agasthya planted a Vilvam plant (which has got medicinal and spiritual healing power) and hence the name. The temple has a very old Vilvam tree which is considered sacred and use its leaves for the daily puja. The Temple complex is big and depicts the South Indian Temple Building stye. Just outside the temple Naagars are around Neem and Peepal tree on a raised platform. Devotees worship during Aadi Tamil month. The temple is very much accessible and is only 150m from Villivakkam bus terminus.

This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva as Lord Sri Agastheeswarar and Goddess Parvathi as Swarna Ambikai Amman.Lord Agathiyar munivar planted Vilvam tree in this temple and worshipped Lord Shiva here, because of this location got its name as Villivakkam. This temple is very old which is closely around 1000 years. When i visited this place i got a feeling like need to see the Lord Shiva again and again. Lord Shiva here is very beautiful and attracts you.Lord Veerabadra have separate temple which is very special, praying here will protect you from any problem you face and gives you lot of wealth and happiness. Here you can also get blessing of Lord Vinayagar,Lord Murugan, Goddess Nagathamman at entrance. As Lord Sevvai prayed Lord Shiva here and got freed from his curse, Sevvai dosham can be reduced by visiting this place often. This temple have very big pond near the entrance of temple.Om Nama Shivaya 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva in the form of Agastheswarar with Goddess Swarnambika as his consort. It is an old temple and quite vast. The temple has extremely calming and positive vibes. The temple is open from 6am to 12pm in the morning and 4pm to 8.30pm in the evenings. There is a huge tree with Naga devathas right outside the temple. There is also a separate Sannidhi for Veerabadrar outside of the actual temple. There is ample space for car and bike parking. Lot of cows can be found here.

One of the temples which still reminds of the earlier centuries. More than 1000 years old, it was built in the 9th century. A big courtyard in front with a small gap between the temple and the tank through which one can take a shortcut to reach the bus terminus. Unfortunately the hard ground has been replaced with cement which takes away a bit of that old feeling. But villivakkam is a hidden gem witha Siva, Vishnu and Amman temple. Add the local markets which sadly do not have the same yesteryear feel and the saiva and vaisnana agarams ( brahmin houses), a beauty.

A shiva temple dedicated to people by sage Agastya is purported to be this one. Recall a tank without a wall made beautiful picture decades ago. Rituals are as per sastras. But crowd management is difficult on certain days. Devotees should lineup as well the trust avoids minting money on such days at this holy place where mahadeva vibes can be felt. Kartikeya swarnambika kalabhairava shrines are there. Eswar can be worshipped from distance even. Parking facility shops there. Chariot and unkempt temple tank can be seen. If temple desilted ground water can be recharged magnificently. Purposeful visit makes a indelible impression indeed. Situated very near to villivakkam bus terminus and walkable from villivakkam railway station. Holy trip.
