This is a complex that was built by the English during their colonial times and now converted to a museum. There are several buildings displaying various items but the buildings themselves are nice. What is even better are the spaces between the buildings which are so serene and peaceful with seats to sit down and relax to catch your breath before you venture into the next building. These are also picnic spots where people have their food packed from home/restaurant thus spreading a mouth watering aroma. The bronze statues, coins and medals are, in my opinion, the best of the lot. Exceptional art work of yesteryear. The expression on the faces of the different statues and the way the details on the legs and hands have been done is fantastic. The medals and coins are simply amazing.

This museum has 5 galleries.. Which includes children museum, anthropology museum, stamps collections, bronze statues, wooden carvings, raja Ravi Varma paintings, old statues, etc... The theatre here has the ancient auditorium with a vintage appearance and perfectly maintained. The specimens here are extremely useful for students and research scholars. The museum depicts all the deity statues of different religions and from different places mainly from South India and western Coastal regions. The museum has a childrens park. It has periodic table and this table has chemical names and scientific names in it,which is quite interesting and informative. The temple cars (rathas) are beautiful and one should not give a miss. Everything here is neatly maintained and also has all basic amenities. Good place to spend time usefully with family. The ancient treaty and monarchy can be felt there. From the canons and war weapons to ornaments of women, utensils theyve used and their lifestyle can be felt there. It has mesmerising effects. We can feel the pride of our ancestors.

Neat and clean place for parkingYou also have a cloakroom to keep your things there for free. Its not a paid one. There are 6 museum buildings to visit. The 6th building is for children and its amazing. You have art museum, bronze museum, childrens museum, zoology and botany, and many to take a look at it.Each take about half an hour or more.Good place for kids and the ambience is well maintained by the guards there.Opens around 9.45 amThe security guards and others in charge are very friendly and guides us through the right way patiently.Inside each building, we have large monitor screens, in which educational information are telecasted.Every building has an QR code, so you can download the Egmore Museum app from your play store and get the detailed information about each idol or the displays.Rest rooms are tidy and well maintained, with automatic taps on the wash basin. It is a great place for photo shoots, as those ancient buildings are just awesome. You ll definitely get awestruck seeing them carved beautifully. The museum campus is one amazing place to sit and rest in between the visits. The place is so shady with trees around and well groomed plants.Benches and seats, huts are available to sit and rest. Its a great and a proud thing to have this in ChennaiThe campus is amazing as you ll bear bird chirps and get to see large fruit eating bats hanging on large trees. You have refreshments available inside the campus, also a stall to buy some traditional stuffs. Please maintain and follow the rules, dont touch the preserved tradition and culture. Kindly help the government to save these for centuries.

Definitely, would rate as one of the most comprehensive and highly rated list of collections.ProsEntry ticket is priced nominally as any government museum. Collection and subjects are huge and exhaustive. One would neatly need more than a day to go through the objects. Super collection of local flora and fauna, especially the aqua lifeConsStaff is literally none with no support. One may find quite a few of the objects are ill maintained, at any point some quarter or the other is either under renovation or closed.Tip - carry a water bottle and start your day early, you may sometimes get delayed at the entry counter and strongly advise to carry exact change at the ticketing counter

A grand old museum thats once again left to rot! Sadly despite all the tall talk of the Minister and officials in charge at ground level its a big cipher when it comes to giving tourists a good museum visit experience. With dusty environs, lack of air-conditioning and hopeless discretion in crowd management a museum visit is a recipe for disaster for any discerning foreign tourist. Perhaps a talk less work more attitude would help for the authorities responsible or else you may just shut shop!

This museum has a Attractive artifacts, Amazing sculptures, Old age medival tools, Weapons. Also contains more than 1000 kinds of swords, sheilds, and Arrows. Old musical instruments eye pleasing😍. I cannot believe that how these old age things were brought here... Especially preserved animal section is fascinating 🤩🤩🤩. But museum isnt maintained well🙄🙄🙄... In some place artifacts wasnt visible due to lack of light... Also TN Govt is not caring about the museum... I really disappointed how bad the employees working there are maintaining the important place...😑. One of the Iconic place in Tamil Nadu. This museum is located right on main road and easily accessible. There are many section like Anthropology, Numismatics, Childrens Museum, Archaeology, stone/metal statues including one fossilized tree, Art Gallery etc. Maintenance is going on and due to this couple of places are not allowed for visitors as of today 23-03-2019 and this may be completed soon. One need to take care of walking in open sun between buildings. The semi circular Museum Theater in the Museum Campus is very much visible from the Pantheon Road, a rare example of the Indo-Saracenic mode of architecture. The theater was built by the British in the year 1896 in the model of the then Globe Theater in London. Rest rooms and parking space are available. One large children play area is keeping children busy. The cleanliness need to be improved by management. Dogs though passive, visitors need to be aware of. One need to carry hat, sun protection cream, sun glass and drinking water to feel comfortable.
