Mr. Krishnamurthy and family runs this little gem. Having just arrived in chennai I was looking at good regional food experiences and stumbled across this place. The place serves up fresh native food using no artificial ingredients, everything is done from scratch. I had the tiffin meal which had a little something of all menu items from bene dosa, thatte idli, paniyaram along with the Tamil sambar which I am already in love with, a peanut chutney and a tomato coconut chutney. The butter milk and the jackfruit curry were through the roof.Mr. Krishnamurthy is quite chatty and it you bump into him he will make sure he has a conversation ranging from ethnicity, religion, history and myriad others.Overall a very very warm rustic experience. Chennai couldnt have had a better welcome in terms of food and warmth of people.
Their very claim of healthy food (whether that is the case is an entirely different matter) is squashed right at the presentation of the food, serving all the hot sambars, rasams, payasams, etc., etc., in plastic/paper cups. Really dont understand why would they do this when those paper cups are even banned by the government declaring them as health hazards for regular users. Even very small hotels without any of those fancy claims serve them in stainless steel cups, if at all they have to serve them in cups. Kindly dont put a customers health at stake just because you want to save manpower or time by avoiding washing vessels. Also make sure to clean the tables once the food is done. Really surprised to see that no one pointed out this important issue to the owner and I am sure if it had been pointed out, he would have totally avoided this.
This is one of the places where we walked in looking at the name board and were very happy we did that.Since we started millets at home three years ago, we know the efforts that go in curating a meal for palates only used to only rice/wheat. Mr.Krishnamoorthy and his team do a splendid job of crafting just the right meal for you. We had the well presented 4 millets thali was rich and fulfilling as a meal. Didn’t feel stuffed, nor did we feel hungry even several hours later. The dessert made with jaggery was delicious and reminded me of the aravana payasam that is part of the Sabarimala prasadam. It turns out they use the same kind of jaggery. There is a different spread each for breakfast, lunch & dinner. The décor has a lot of wood and is very functional. We only planned on having a millet lunch and were happy to have chanced upon this place while walking around in the Chennai heat.We sampled some vadas - prepared like meatballs but made from soya & packed with protein.Got to meet the owner and heard the back story and the thought behind the restaurant.Millets don’t come cheap but the meals are well priced and there’s certainly no compromise on taste. On Sundays, they offer jackfruit(small & raw) biriyani which is finger licking good. A ‘must visit’ restaurant in Chennai.
Must visit for anyone looking for healthy food in Chennai. I never thought millet would be so delicious.Millet special meals and panagam is a must try. Coconut jaggery burfi which is sold in pre packed boxes tasted very good, was fresh and made with pure ghee and jaggery.
Taste of food is worth every penny of yours.. The love and hospitality u get here will make you feel at home.. If you are looking for the most natural healthy food this is the best one in chennai..
5 stars are way too less to describe the kind of experience you have here. Its a restaurant driven by an undying passion to share age old recipes with the population. One must visit this place whenever you get the opportunity. An experience like no other.
Must try millets Rice and millets dosa idly extra.Taste really good. But bit expensive
This place is very specific in the type of food it serves and it does a very good job at it.The ambience is great. Its essentially a home and considering the type of food served, it is fitting and gives an authentic feel. The price is very reasonable, cheap even consider the taste of the food. And coming to the food, almost every single dish in the menu tastes very different from what I am used to eating and makes me come back for more. I initially had reservations about the menu, but it is a must try for everyone, even if you dont like such good, as I am sure you will come to enjoy it.
So good gramin food and service person named arumugam his service too nice like homely
A house turned into a restaurant. Tasty healthy food based on Millets, Ragi, Pesaratttu etc. Had Idly, Dosa and Buttermilk and it was of great taste. They do offer paniyaram, vada etc. You may need to wait if the tables are full as they are less in numbers. Well lit and felt very airy as I went for dinner. Does not have dedicated parking facilities hence you got to go with curb side parking which one can find easily considering the road is big. Will visit again. They do sell batter and some of the organic food items.Taste - 4.5 / 5Location - 4.5 / 5Cleanliness - 4 / 5Service - 4 / 5
Nice selection, very good taste. Great service. Must try hidden gem.
I loved the food served here, tastes like homemade food. They also serve healthy millet foods, which tastes superb. Highly recommended!
The humble food of the real Heroes of the land. Brought to you in traditional setting using best of the grannies recipes and ingredients sourced from the villages, And NSK Sirs stories take you to another level of culinary treat.Pls do visit and give yourself a treat to the warmest hospitality, the tastiest food and take back the memories and goodness..as they have list of sweets, savouries, pickles, and many more seasonal offer for you to carry back and keep your self reminded of making another visit.
Delicious food. They will serve traditional food. Must try thatte idli
Calm environment,friendly staff,good food @ reasonable price.
Awesome food quality, it is healthy and hygienic. Tried their mini tiffin( tatte idli+dosa+ rice dumplings combo). It is a family owned business and they make you feel at home all the time. They are passionate about what they do. One of my best foodie experiences. Must-do thing if you are looking for local food in Chennai!!
Good veg restaurant to have village style other than RICE food. Mostly with Millett
This is our most favorite restaurant for more than 4 yrs now.Guilt free food made very tasty and pocket friendly too.If you are a lover of millet food I would highly recommend this which is close to home style pampering. The sweets and Savory range also is so addictive and great option to snack on.Kudos to their entire team.
Love love love the food. My all time favorite is jackfruit biryani.
ChennaiBefore I leave from this beautiful city to which I’m attached in many ways .One last mandatory pit stop 🛑Prems Graama BhojanamYes a wonderful concept which is a brainchild of N.s. Krishnamoorthi uncle who has done a fantastic job by introducing millets in to some exotic dishes served .Yes the food at prems has a unique touch - one would have a home made feel and enjoy a healthy and nutritious meal 🥘Each dish served here is unique and tastes divine .👉🏻Started with Coconut 🥥 nectarA perfect sweet and refreshing drink made from flower buds of coconuts trees .This one is mind blowing and has loads of medicinal values in it .(They call it as Neera or Padhaneer in local language)👉🏻Then tried the mushroom 🍄 soup made with fresh veggies . No artificial colours or preservatives used !👉🏻 then comes Kolaurundai - Madurai speciality which is made with soya chunks , coconut , Chinna dal.A perfect appetiser .👉🏻Apollo paneer a perfect replica of hyderabad speciality apollo fish .But this one is made with paneer and millet coating ,loved the tangyness and finely chopped garlic used in it.👉🏻Special thali - this compromises of millet based veg biryani , millet sambar dish , millet based rasam dish and miller based curd dish .The chutneys are given as accompaniments - allammaagaya, pappuchutney .It comes with roti , Channa masala and poriyal..To end this meal we have black rice Halwa which is just divine(Reminds me of Thirunelvelli Halwa 💓)On the whole it’s a roller coaster ride of native touch with robust flavours I could sense with each dish served .If you are in chennai do head toPrems Graama Bhojanam for an offbeat experience.Summing up my trip on a delicious note 📝Thank you so much @N.S.Krishnamoorthy uncle and your entire family for such warmth.Every time I’m in chennai I’m coming back to Prems 😁Chennai, India
Its like a traditional hotel and also everyone should know the taste of this hotel, varieties also very good....
A wonderful place missing hygiene and cleanliness. The food is really amazing but the place can be maintained in a better way. Theres dust all around and lots of marks on the floor. The food is really good in terms of taste and nutrition and we enjoyed whatever we ordered wether it was to eat or drink. Very rarely do you get to eat such healthy food tasting so good, but the ambiance was sort of disappointment. Nice food experience but upset with the dining experience.
One of the nicest place to eat out and not feel guilty. I the owner and the staff are very friendly and make you feel welcome and comfortable. Food is of course awesome and every time we are in India we definitely make sure to visit this place. Kudos.
This place is just amazing! I cant find any other words to describe the place. Been there a couple of times and still looking forward to my next visit to try the dishes that I could not taste the last time cause I was full. Anyway, this place is located on the Sardar Patel road in Adyar. You might find it difficult to locate this place first time but not after that for sure. This is a small place located on the first floor of the quint little building. Very simple place but lively and has a rural feel which was intended.Menu has a many typical South Indian dishes but you will definitely that they taste much better.I have tried almost all their dishes. I would suggest you to try their Benne Masala Dosa and thatte idali.Staff can help you in ordering the dishes and they are very helpful. On the price scale, considering the quantity of the food, it is an economic one.I would definitely recommend you guys to visit this place.
A place to eat healthy food. Ambience was not so good, cleanliness can be improved and furniture looks worn out. However the food was tasty and healthy. It was cheap too!!
When I think of a healthy vegetarian food, my choice would be Prems Grama Bhojanam always (Adyar and Shanthi colony in Chennai). Maximised usage of Millets with interest and taste. The menu has been carefully crafted to satisfy your taste buds and at the same time keeping health and related awareness in mind. Its an experience whenever I visit this place with additions to the menu always. Kicked off with Moringa (drumstick) leaves soup along with Ragi vadagams, followed by starters - Millet Kuzhipaniyaram, Ponnanganni Keera Vada, Sweet Potato Tawa fried fritters, Moong-Sweet potato-Millet cutlet, Millet-Ridge gourd bajjis...yummmm what more can you ask for. Then comes the series of millet idli and dosas... Thatte Idli, Da-Ven-gere Benne Dosa, Millet Ghee Roast, Pesarattu, Konkan Neer Dosa - Millet and black rice, Bamboo rice dosa, Red rice dosa, cholam ghee roast, Cholam oothappam, mini oothappams (3 types)... each of them were unique to its flavour and purpose. The highlight was millet biriyani and millet pongal...yummmm. The serve buttermilk and other desserts, but the must try items are Paanakam and natural kulfi. You would like to eat out and also health conscious, this is the place! They also have an outlet in Bangalore as well!
This small restaurant is located within a small gap between two buildings, in the first floor of a old building. But the interiors are done well. The quality of food deserves a 5 star, a special mention has to be done on the water they serve. It has Thulsi and other Indian herbs added water. The taste is very much good and a good treat for a vegan and as the menu is mainly with millets, diet conscious ppl too, can take a smack.Overall Good
Different healthy food items available. Afternoon time lunch and evening tiffins they are arranging. Also snack items like sweets hot and drinks available. Esp what I love is the drinking water they provide is made of tulasi and other ingredients. Overall it is very Good place where taste and health meets...
A vegetarian restaurant for traditional village foods mostly made of millets. Mali soup, ponnankanni keerai vadai, thinai arisi dosai were the kind of varieties. Taste was very good. Chukku coffee was also very good.Outlet is in first floor in multiple small rooms. Place is very old but they tried to keep it clean. Service was also fast and good. Rates are very reasonable. Would like to visit again.
Fantastic food with delicious side dishes.
Best village type healthy food restaurant in Chennai. Everything is very homely and tasty. Rice is made from ragi and other healthy ingredients. Rotis and dal was simply superb.Kulfi was pure without added color or chemicals and was offered in pot. Even the water was healthy as it is severed with ayurvedic leafs.
Taste is nice. But the ambience is garbage. The washroom stinks like an uncleaned public toilet. Our table had some water spills when we came and we requested to clean it but they didnt even bother to do so.
If you are in chennai this place is a MUST! They serve quality wholesome food. They have all the authentic flavours with a twist in their menu. They have experimented with millets and they are successful! Its a very small and simple place filled with good food and great people ❤💯Mr.Krishnamoorthi the owner of the restaurant is a delight to talk to!
100% VegetarianVery familiar and recommend most for Jack fruit biriyani and PathaneerDont miss to try both if you are visiting this restaurant
Food Taste was good but the place is not clean. Wash area is very dirty and smelly. It was very difficult for us to sit and eat there. To be improved a lot.
Worst place for food. The menu card looks really awesome but not the food. When ordered food they said it is available but after 15 min wait they said that what we ordered is not available and we had to reorder again. Then waited another 20 min before finally got the food. Food was good. Then when ordered another round of same food they took order but after 10 min they came and said there are too many orders so they cannot serve what we ordered and we can get ottapam quickly. So we ordered ottapam, but after eating ottapam got food poisoning, probably the ottapam flour was bad so that is the reason they suggested us to order it. Also there is no chutney, pickel or papad. People who wants to get food poisoning after paying for very costly food can go there. THE WORST PLACE TO HAVE FOOD.
Good ambience, great tasting traditional food, excellent service.. a must visit for vegetarian, health conscious food lovers.. just that no exclusive car park available..
Excellent food . Homely atmosphere. Friendly attendees. Over all very nice
Id never heard of this place before, and happened to spot it one afternoon. Its a small restaurant that serves healthy, organic, nutritious food. The base for most of their food is some sort of millet or cereal. The best part of the food is that despite being nutritious, it tastes great too! We had the kambu roti which was served with some kurma, some millet based halwa made out of jaggery and the buttermilk. Typical graama bhojanam are what they are experts in. Stop by if youre insanely hungry, but on a diet as well.
Nice place and nice service, still can show some varities and rates on very high end
One of the best places to eat in Chennai where you will get South Indian food with gourmet touch. Owner is very hospitable and makes sure that you enjoy your visit
Value for money veg restaurant in Adyar area. Good choice for trying tasty organic, Millets based veg food, though may not be great with facilities.
Small dining,Nice authentic food. I liked the taste and preparation. Yummy healthy food... good service too
Satisfied... bcoz only veg 😅😅
Excellent food , Nice Ambience and very good service ... Worth each and every bit of time & money spent at this place.
Must visit place for Millet lovers. The owner and staffs are very kind and provide good service. The owner visits every table and inform about the variety of menu they provide.
Outstanding and freshly made lunch. So many options to eat. Even after stuffing my tummy wanted to eat more. Halwa was superb. Oh and the kulfi is really very very good. Must visit in Chennai. I will come here again.Vegetarian food is served here and fresh low oil, low masala food. Choose what you like. Mr. Moorty god bless you.
Evening tiffin items were excellent, prices affordable, served very fast. Very friendly place.Flooring needs repair and a bit of improvement in cleanliness.
Place for organic food lovers.. Small not so flashy restaurant which is know through work of mouth advertisement. Food served are organic and healthy mix. All kinds of millet are served here as lunch and no rice is used, which makes this establishment unique. True to its name its village food in city. facebook page is attached.
Meals is good and worth. Healthy and subtle
Awesome food.. tried bajra roti, millet meals and natural kulfi.
A great place for traditional food. A must visit. Homely food.!
Excellent high quality tasty reasonably priced millet based food.
Taste good .. took a sample sambar and rasam millet mixed rice .. tasty.. ordering food for luch today. They are only giving one vegetable . They can add one more vegetable. Pricing is very decent ..
They have a distinct menu catering to a good section of foodies... Wish them all the best
Quality Millet preparations at the right price
Strongly recommend this place for people who wanna try exclusively healthy and different menu. Am sure it wont disappoint. Millet followers, will fall in love for sure.
Excellent food...if you want to eat healthy and remain healthy then you gotto check out this place which is serving delicious food which has no trail of white rice, sugar, vanapasthi and other food items causing health issues and it turns out to be pocket friendly too..do check this out only if you are a true fan of South indian healthy food..we hogged on hot rasam , herbed water, curd millet, sambhar millet, blackrice jaggery sweet , pessarettu and masala Uthappa of green gram with sweet potato filling
Excellent traditional and healthy food owner is delight to talk with with his vast knowledge about food and culture your visit will be fery memorable with a fully satisfied meal
Prems grama Bhojanam serves authentic South Indian food from a variety of spices. It could be difficult to find this place. It lies next to GRT Adyar, the lane immediate to the left.It has decent ambience but serves the best south Indian food. The Matka Kulfi you get here is home made and is definitely worth trying!Latest update as per 15th October, 2019: its been closed.
Best healthy millet food available here. The best in chennai.
Very tasty and healthy food👌
A must try place. The have healthy alternatives to rice such as millet, Jowar, raagi etc..The water has a hint of Tulsi flavour, which is pleasant.
I had been to this restaurant a few times. recently, they have moved to the new place in 3rd main road Kasturba Nagar which is quite nice compared to earlier one which was on the first floor of an old building. Panagam was tasty and their drinking water is a good one. The cost is reasonable for the healthy option.
Just visit.. you ll feel satisfaction of having a good meal.. the end.. apart from food.. parking is bit tough.. so what, the meal nullified everything.. seriously prepare your taste buds for a authentic healthy meal...
I had value meals which is really a value for money. Almost had full south Indian meals with thinai (millet) rice, sambhar, vatha kolambu, rasam, raghi vadagam, jaggery thinai pongal and butter milk. I just felt think rice was little dry as it has water absorption high. Good first time experience!👍
Whoever said that healthy food cannot be tasty, have to visit this place. I had meals made out of millets and it was the best ever meal I had. Heres a pic too 😃
Amazing food and friendly people
Good to get food made of pulses and dal. Taste is decent. If you had home food or any village food which you liked before and want to have here, then suggest you not to try. Decent meals
These small family run business need to be serious, we need to encourage them but when items are not ready for lunch even at 12:45 what do you do. Hopeless loose management
Awesome food. Must try
Very nice place and higene food for every one. The quality of food compensates the price. Will highly recommend all alteast to taste food once if you were in Adyar.
Tasty healthy affordable pricesWhat more one can wish for!Owners and staffs are very warm and friendlyNice homely ambience..Our health their priority!! Which we find lacking elsewhereMost recommended..!!Good work... Keep it up!
