Love the small jewelry and coins. A lot of statues and handcrafted art from Greek and Roman Empire
If you love museums, you`ll love this. So much unique and amazing things to see. 100% a must see.
Roman history. Bilingual and very informative of ancient Roman culture coupled with the exhibits. Helps understand their art.
Extraordinary, from the building itself to the rarities in it, if you are a fan of Greek art you cant miss this one. From the outside it looks outstanding, from the inside there are so many gems to discover. The building is well structured and provides a cozy and clean environment for the visitors, its nice and quite so you can enjoy the contents, definitely a must go when in Berlin!
Lovely collection, great building. Definitely recommend if youre interested in ancient Greece and Rome
Very interesting, a lot of statues and object from the ancient greek period. Will take audio your next time because it was not very detailed
One of the small Berlin museums, worth if you are interested in Ancient History, and especially Greek and Roman. The tour was quite dull, but not bad in general. A free audio-guide is available. The building itself is very beautiful.
Good museum if Greek and Roman antiquity.
This place requires more than two hours to only scratch the surface. Recommended. Use Berlin Museums pass
A wonderful experience! I saw amazing statues and beautiful paintings, including French impressionists. I could only stay for one hour, which was not enough. I recommend listening to the audio guide for the interesting stories about the statues and paintings. Also, if you are interested in this kind of art, you should plan on staying for at least 3 hours if not more; one hour for each floor (3 floors in total).
Better than going to Greece - its all here
Awesome museum, try to buy tickets early to avoid a line and get the museum pass for 18 Euro. You must put your bag and jacket in the cloak room but the whole museum is heated. Its a workout in itself to do but so worth it. Wear comfy shoes.
This building catches your eye as you walk past it. Havent gotten a chance to view the exhibits yet, but I have no doubt that they are exceptional. Conveniently enough, Google offers an online Buy Tickets options. I am assuming this is through Tiquets. I have used them before. It is a time-saving option for those on a schedule.
Schinkels plans incorporated the Königliches Museum into an ensemble of buildings, which surround the Berliner Lustgarten (pleasure garden). The Stadtschloss in the south was a symbol of worldly power, the Zeughaus in the west represented military might, and the Berliner Dom in the east was the embodiment of divine authority. The museum to the north of the garden, which was to provide for the education of the people, stood as a symbol for science and art—and not least for their torchbearer: the self-aware bourgeoisie. For the front facing the Lustgarten, a simple columned hall in grand style and proportionate to the importance of the location would most certainly give the building character. The arrangement of the eighteen Ionic columns was effected by the Lustgarten. The portico was designed with a function in order to give the museum building an exterior befitting its site, in which the monuments can be placed.
Very nice collection from Greece and Rome empire
One of the best museums that Ive ever been to! The art was fantastic and the building was stunning inside and out! Its best to arrive early before it gets crowded so you can wander leisurely.
An incredible collection of ancient treasures. Berlin has so many different museums that offer unique views.. and this is one of them. A must visit.
Good experience with museums working people, able to give informations about tickets.I also had the chance to find Italy in many works of art in this museum.. Hence Gioconda is not the only thing that should go back to Italians!😉
Absolutely underrated museum. Sure it doesn’t have monumental statues or architecture but is absolutely world class in ceramics, jewelry and smaller statues and busts
If u going for Altes Museum u need to know its placed on and island with plenty of other museums must to see. Its quite pricey but u can get one day pass for €18 for all of them! Totally worth it! Go early in the morning as it will really take time to visit all of them.
Experiencing the history that is held within the walls of this museum was a treat. Staff is extremely helpful and friendly and the museum is laid out in a pleasant way that allows you to wander through at your leisure. Its not overly crowded and the artifacts are stunning.
Cool museum with many different topics. It also has several souvenirs shops, but they can be a bit tricky to find. There is also a possibility to buy one ticket to see all museums on the museum island. I recommend that ticket if you have lots of time to spend that day. But if you just want to take your time, there would still be plenty to see in the Altes Museum. :)
The Altes Museum (German for Old Museum) is a museum building on Museum Island in Berlin, Germany. Since restoration work in 2010–11, it houses the Antikensammlung (antiquities collection) of the Berlin State Museums. The museum building was built between 1823 and 1830 by the architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel in the neoclassical style to house the Prussian royal familys art collection. The historic, protected building counts among the most distinguished in neoclassicism and is a high point of Schinkels career. Until 1845, it was called the Königliches Museum (Royal Museum). Along with the other museums and historic buildings on Museum Island, the Altes Museum was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. The Altes Museum was originally constructed to house all of the citys collections of fine arts, including Old Master paintings, and prints and drawings. However, since 1904, the museum has solely housed the Antikensammlung (Collection of Classical Antiquities). Since 1998, the Collection of Classical Antiquities has displayed its Greek collection, including the treasury, on the ground floor of the Altes Museum. Special exhibitions are displayed on the second floor of the museum. Under General Director Ludwig Justi, the building was the first museum of Museum Island to undergo reconstruction and restoration, which was carried out from 1951 to 1966 by Hans Erich Bogatzky and Theodor Voissen. Following Schinkels designs, the murals of the rotunda were restored in 1982. However, neither the ornate ceilings of the ground floor exhibition rooms nor the pairs of columns under the girders were reconstructed. The former connection to the Neues Museum has also not been rebuilt; instead, an underground passageway connecting all of the museums of Museum Island is planned as part of the Museumsinsel 2015 renovations.
Bought tickets online for 30 may, came at my time slot to see that the museum is still closed till mid June.No information about it was provided on site, the ticket purchase was available.Dusrespectful!
Famous ang just interesting antique sculptures. Not big, 1,5-2 hours 8s enough. There is a service lift, if you are with a stroller, but you should ask the security about it.
Beautiful and boring as hell. I dont know if I m just spoiled by so many amazing museums Ive been to, but I found nothing much interesting, except, maybe, an unexpected ancient coins collection that in my opinion should be presented and displayed better
Nice place to be. Peaceful and calm. History lovers should visit the place!
There are impressive historical arts placed, you have not enough time at once. Don’t try to visit in the afternoon.
Loved it! Greece and Rome in the same museum
Nice, only two stories. Very nice and well kept collections. Descriptions in German and English.Try one of the daily pass sets. The Neues museum and the Pergamon are within easy reach.
Surroundings of the museum is very attractive.I could not make time to enter the museum to see the collection.
A very impressive museum of history. Magnificent building.
Impressive collection of Greek and Roman art.
Greek, Roman and Etruscan art. Everything from small bronzes to large sarcophagi. The rotunda is worth seeing as is the first floor room with grave goods and mosaics.
A very nice and fairly big archaeological museum with Greek and Roman antiquities. Part of the Museum Insel an UNESCO world heritage site. Its exhibition was a nice and modern
A beautifully built museum with a large Greek/Roman exhibit. Make sure you get an English audio guide.
Very well organised museum and exquisite pieces
Full of pieces of art, especially sculptures. Beautiful museum. With one ticket you have the opportunity to visit all the museums of that area.
Its ok for people who loves just walking around exhibition and listening some interesting facts, but its not somehow interactive and it gets boring after lots of nearly the same exhibition.
This museum is specialized for Greek and Roman civilizations, It was great experience to see their architecture, sculptures and status..
Beautiful, not so big museum. Well structured and visualised. Well documented. Inefficient ticket sales (slow!) and café (very slow!). Nice building.
Decent collection of statues from the Greek/Roman era. Staff was very helpful/friendly.The attached pictures are of the church which is ajacent to the museum courtyard. There is a wheelchair available to borrow.
Wonderful museum od Antic Art
Very interesting place. Highly recommended .
All art has been contemporary.
If you like sculpture and Ancient Rome, this is the museum for you. Staff were lovely and welcoming.
A must visit museum when you visit Berlin!
The best place where we can rest our mind and go back in period of time where new civilization came up and down....
I love this type of old architectures design. I did not make it in, but the outside of the building is worth spending some time to take a few good pictures.
Unspeakable arts
Fantastic collection of classical greek, román, etruscian arts. You could easily spend 3 hours here. Do not miss it when you are in Berlin
Excellent collection. The free audioguide provides good interpretation of many of the objects. The 3 day museum pass is a great value at 29 euros if you are in town for a few days.
Amazing experience, great place for children and adults.
Amazing museum with very interesting ancient Greek and Roman sculptures
Included in museum island ticket. Good for a but but only so many pots and statues I can look our before losing interest
A really lovely museum if you like Greek, Roman and Etruscan sculpture and art. Its also not super crowded.
Tourist 101 site to visit and all included with the Berlin Welcome Card. Its a must get for first timers to Berlin and to get the most in a small amount of time. Pays for all buses, trams and AB line trains. Entrances to nearly all musuems in the island.
And another beautiful place on the Island.
Great chilled out place for tourists. Enjoy the ambience and possibly live music from buskers.
💥Beautiful place, relaxing, interesting and comfortable.
Must visit place when you are here in Berlin. Usually spend 2 to 3 hrs. Fascinated by the historical artifacts.
Top!
Worth going if you are into museums, also u can get a huge discount as a student. If Im not wrong I paid 10€ for student ticket
It was great. I love the museum and many tombs that is kept here.
For those who admires very old stuff :-)
Great expositions of ancient world artefacts.
Cool entrance with fascinating sculptures.
Paid for 5 museums on the island, this was one. Fantastic!
It is amazing
Very nice place
Many Greco Roman classics, including coins and jewelry. A must see for any ancient history fan!
It’s great place to take a photo. but as you know Berlin dom is the best:)
Nice place with an amazing collection of art! If you have the time to make the tour it is worth it.
Schinkels old museum is an outstanding building and great institution. Very good for seeing crumbling old statues and relics of another time. They have nice exhibits every once in a while...i especially liked the last one titled meat/fleisch. Sadly i feel like they can show more new stuff. Some curatorial decisions are outright quirky which is refreshing.
Home to many beautiful old artifacts including the bust of Nefertiti. Free for children up 18 years old.
Astonishing Museum, a must to go Museum whenever you visit Berlin, a museum that your family will truly enjoy👍👍👍
Great spot to hang out in the city
For those that love anything Roman or Greek this Museum is perfect. Plan 2 to 3 hours.
Its a good collection of Greek and Roman art. I miss that a little bit more of history could be presented.
In my opinion the most significant of all the museums on the island. Some unique finds and very detailed descriptions in both german and english. Worth a visit. Students get half price
Great museum about Greek, Roman and Etruscan civilisations. Thanks to this place of history, we have another great overview of the men who built the roots of european civilization. To sum up, it’s kind of the Louvre in Berlin but focused only on periods before Christ and right during the Roman Empire of the first centuries after Christ. A must see museum in Berlin !
I bought the daily Museumsinsel ticket for 18 Euros. This the first museum I got in. On the ground floor rhere is the Ancient Greek exhibition and on the first floor it’s full Roman. The audio guide is pretty useful and comes free with the ticket. You can leave your backpack at the entrance. There’s a small cafe on the ground floor, cold/hot drinks and fresh foos/snacks are served. Pretty afordable and quite :)
DomeGreek collection
Extremely old artifacts and statues from Greece and Roman Empire.
Vast collection of antique pieces of art from V century BC up to late Roman empire.Worth visiting to spend a nice Sunday afternoon.
