Randomly selected this restaurant, fortunately, it’s a big surprise for us! The Tuesday special combo is only $14 for a Margaret and a Taco. The food is very very nice! And the environment is so cool, isn’t it?!

Looks Damn good and unique, full of ancient pictures, drawings and artistic work all over the walls, tried a different kind of food here, really like the pork belly burger and i added the extra hot sauce (they serve u once asked). Nice cocktails and lunch specials. I imagined they would have Nachos like every other Mexican place, but they dont. Overall nice experience and friendly staff.

Cool restaurant with funky decor and food was nice but not very Mexican- could have been food from any nice bistro pub. We ordered a carafe of margarita and what arrived hardly filled two glasses apart from full of ice! Def dont feel like Ive been to Mexico! Disappointed.

The food was ok. Was better when I came last year. The menu changed so was guttered by that. The place is nicely decorated. The staff poorly treated our table, there was a lady who just chucked our food on table, and looked like she hated her job. I work in hospitality and I know it can be tough, but hey at least smile and be kind? I hyped this place to my friends but left feeling really under whelmed and disappointed.

The place is called MEXICO and under MEXICO SPECIALITIES I order the Traditional oxacana tortilla.. there was nothing Mexican on that.. they have a strange green sauce that wasnt chipotle nor guacamole, also a white onion sauce that wasnt sour cream, a dark mushroom dip that wasnt beans.. it looked more like a middle eastern dish rather than mexican.. the 4 of us order different things from the menu and they all had a strange curry flavour... very VERY disappointed, as mexican I wouldnt recommend the place... Michelada was good though.

Mexico. A star in the Mexican food market. What a great experience. The service is good. The food is great. The drink options are plentiful. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing. I love all the artwork on the walls, always something cool to look at. Try the fried chicken and youll order it for every visit like I do. I must say I love the crispy soft-shell crab taco too. A great selection of margaritas to choose from but also you cant go wrong with a Corona. If you like corn then youll love the esquites. I guess my only complaint would be that it seems that every time I visit they are out of guacamole, whether it is poor planning or its so good they run out, either way its still disappointing. Over all, highly recommended.

This place is really really good. In the last 2 months have eaten at 3 different Mexican themed restaurants in Auckland and Christchurch. This one is by far the best. Food was super yummy, place was buzzy and staff although young and in some cases first time job(?) experienced... were upbeat and help create a great night out. There was a mix of families with young children to teens to young adults thru to us having a couple night in our 50s. Highly recommend

2nd time here and yet again we were impressed by the tacos. The menu apparently changes every 6months, what a great way to keep the crowd coming back. Todays favourite has to be the fish taco, so flavoursome! Absolute delight. Hubby loved the duck taco ( it was a close 2nd for me) We also liked the slow cooked lamb meat! And the guava and mint margarita was delicious :p

Excellent service, and food was very yummy. Ordered the fried chicken which was to die for. Also had white coloured cola. The deco was very good, especially when we went on the day of th dead.

Lovely lunch - they had a $20 special which gave us a taco, guacamole and fried chicken plus a soda. Great value and great taste.

I love Mexico, everything is delicious and the atmosphere is 10/10 thanks to the decor and friendly staff.

The food is decent, nothing miraculous, but tasty. The atmosphere is crafted through an abundance of art, nick nacks and dolls, liberally tacked to every wall. Where they undoubtedly shine howerver is cocktails, delicious, well varied, easily enjoyed cocktails with a proper kick of alcohol, and a bit of a discount if you order a pitcher. Definitely worth a visit.

Decent food and authentic Mexican vibe, very popular at lunch with all the businesses around. We didnt book in advance for 8 people but they still managed to accommodate us. Prices are relatively decent and meals are a good size. They also have a app to get an individual discount on :)

Spent time there on Friday night.The atmosphere was good, the drink was awesome. The food like Mexico fired chicken was so yum. Staffs were nice and helpful. Really good meal here. Fried chicken with the beautiful mayonnaise. Soft shelled taco wirh lamb. And jackfruit quesadilla. Washed down with song genuine Mexican sodas.

Been to long since I last came here but to good to know that the food is still delicious. The fried chicken I always get and that will never change. Pork belly taco is a must try with great combination of flavors. Also enjoyed the cocktails. Great way to top it off.

We had dinner here the first day we arrived, nice Mexican Restaurant. The owner Jamie was very helpful in telling as what was nice to order, we settled for the Sticky Pork Ribs & Soft Crispy Pork Tacos

Delicious tacos ! We ordered a couple of tacos and the fried chicken. Our favorite was the pork taco. Really good. The drinks were nice too. Service was great too.

Four of came here for dinner and as usual, Mexico did not disappoint! Some people tell me that Mexico is too mainstream but I cannot say no to a taco from here!We ordered the five spiced duck leg taco, esquites, Mexico fried chicken, the slow cooked lamb shoulder quesadilla and three taco Tuesday specials (a fried chicken or fried cauliflower taco with a margarita for $14) - everyone in our group got the fried chicken 🍗The lamb quesadilla was out of this world, we all loved it and my duck taco was amazing - they did not skimp on the duck either! If you want to try I’d recommend heading in ASAP, Mexico changes their menu seasonally and I don’t remember seeing a duck taco on the menu ever before!Try one of the margaritas or one of the sugar free sofas, I didn’t have one this time but they never disappoint.My only complaint is that one of the staff members seemed so bored and we could hardly hear her. We also asked for extra tortillas with our esquitas (I ask for this each time and it’s never an issue, I just pay an extra charge), our server said he would ask but never got back to us and we did not get the extra tortilla :(

Great food and atmosphere - however, both times Ive been there with friends & family weve had the same waiter who is extremely rude and awkward. Guy with curly long hair who says inappropriate things and makes you wonder how he even got hired. Makes us not want to go back to be honest.

Very delicious margaritas and cocktails, its true, so a star for that. Another one for staff who were friendly and attentive. The third star is for the place itself, it has some interesting spirit of its own.However, the food was very average. We were advised that most plates are to share, but basically those were quite modest portions.Ceviche was something with raw fish - I would suggest staff to warn about this as it came as a surprise which I would be happy to avoid. Squad rings were super hot though were marked with only 1 chili. I wonder who would survive all 3 chili dishes, so beware :) Not impressed with food at all, so would only drop in for a nice drink but not food

Have come here a few times as is near to my work. Usually on a Friday night in a group, this time on Saturday night. Came here an hour and a half early so ended up going home again, oops. Came back at right time and they remembered me and greeted me and showed me my table.Such a good spot, not as crazy busy as other Mexico restaurants (especially Takapuna) but still the awesome food you come to expect (I have been more than a handful of times over the years).Pretty sure any spot is great here, although one of the big tables inside under the big air con, there was a slight drip at one point and it dropped on me. When I asked they said it was just water and they were looking into which was weird because they didnt warn those of us there. Although, that group had been there before, so perhaps they assumed we were aware. Not sure if it is fixed now, forgot to ask.Food: I had a chicken cola taco, which was amazing. Everyone loved their quesadillas. The chicken is a fav with my workmates too.Drinks were good. Most of us had a non alc blood orange soda. Didnt have a margarita at this particular place, but if the staff are trained like the others, they wont disappoint either. Fresh and good. Yum. Lamb tacos were amazing and so were their Mexico fried chicken. Definitely willbe back to try more options from the menu.

Larger tables got preference and so one had to wait a bit longer but the food was great for sure.

Ive been here twice and both times it has been utterly delightful, with excellent food and service. I think maybe the menu is a little small - only a few options in each category - but everything on it tastes great.

If you are after some good, spicy, tasty food and good service, you have got it right with Mexico... I enjoyed their starters through to mains and dessert... We were quite a very large group and they still catered us really well..

I went here with just a crazy list of dietary requirements. I was pregnant and couldnt have gluten due to coeliac not due to preference. Our waiter was awesome and made sure I was taken care of down to stuff I didnt even think of, like tracking down some vegan mayo so I didnt have to worrry about the egg thing. The food was lovely and he was an absolute champ.Ps. Bring back the pomegranate lamb taco

This place is probably one of my regular restaurants. The service can sometimes be a little hit and miss at busy times, but you just have to grab someone’s attention as they’re rushing past, which I’m OK with.The food is always excellent, and you can never fail with their fried chicken!!Looking forward to my next margarita already 😁

Food is delicious. I found the menu range a little limited for my tastes. Bar service was a little slow on the day we visited for lunch but the non alcoholic drinks were well worth the wait.

Nice drinks.I would say a good place for big groups. The dishes are nice but def not autentic Mexican ( if anyone know a good Mexican place in NZ give me a shout cause I think there is none). Missing the real flavours...But then again if you want some funky sangria or margheritas with ok food to share, this is your spot.

Really disappointed. Its been a year or 2 since I last visited and its changed. The service was slow but friendly. Our wine choice on the menu is no longer available. The salsa seemed to be hot sauce in tomato sauce. On questioning this the cashier said it was pureed. The fried chicken was a bit greasy and the chocolate has been replaced with caramel in the dessert. Not so nice.

Really lovely service and super efficient on the food, so fast that we got the food before drinks and i’ve never had that before! For the month of January they’re having a special on Eggplant or Pork Tortas and the eggplant one was amazing! Super full of flavour and really filling! Unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend the Beef Cheek quesadillas my partner said they were “borderline gross” just lacked a lot of flavour and didn’t do it for both of us! Would also recommend the strawberry and guava Margarita

I have now eaten at 5 different Mexico restaurants. Out of the 5, Mexico Petone is the worst and serves awful, inedible food and my advice is that the staff should spend time at Mexico Ellerslie to see how it should be done as these guys know how to cook food!! Always delicious, whether you eat in or order on Uber Eats. Expensive but worth every cent!!I just wish you could order the margaritas on Uber Eats!

Honestly, the food was still yum, but the portion size of the $30 chicken platter was the same/smaller than the normal $16 fried chicken and we, as a group, just couldnt get over that level of ridiculous in pricing. I mean, we knew what we were getting into with going to Mexico, but this was just. Wow.

Really disappointing experience at Mexico Ellerslie this evening. We were the second group into the outdoor area. We ordered food and drinks and waited ... and waited... We watched four other groups come in, order, and receive their food, while still waiting for our food. We asked the waiter a n umber of times about how long it would be before we would get our food. After 40 minutes, we gave up and left. We barely got an apology. No effort to chase the food along. Customer service was completely absent. We wont be going back, and would not recommend to anyone based on this experience.

Almost no sauce in the fried chicken platter box, very small actually, the real food doesnt match what you see in the picture.

The food was pretty good, I had the triple chicken platter, tasty although one of the chicken types was a bit overdone and thus quite dry. Cheesecake was excellent. Service was mediocre.

Service and food great. We got there before 6 on Saturday and took advantage of half price margaritas. Red apple and salted caramel margarita is devine. Picture shows peaches and vanilla which is fab as well. Octopus and chorizo taco was beyond yum. All the food was delish. Very reasonable prices as well. We will be heading back. Thank you
