Its our favourite bar in Wellington - lovely old pub thats been tastefully renovated. Great food and superb bar staff. Always have 2 or 3 interesting guest beers on tap. Very imaginative events programme - music, wine & beer tastings etc

A place that probably has potential of at least 4/5.Okay food, nice place. Id definitely give it shot when the Thistle Inn introduces their full menu. The options of the reduced COVID 19 menu was slightly disappointing.

Great experience with WVOP BBQ lunch. Love the G&T looking carbonated water on arrival.

There’s a lot to like about The Thistle. Beer (craft). Food. Ambiance. Close to the Stadium. Close to the Railway Station. If you’re down this end of town or heading to a concert or game I’d recommend it.

We did the AirBnb experience here and it was absolutely incredible! We had Tom guiding us through the night and he was incredibly wonderful. Not only did he take the time to connect with us, but also genuinely showed the passion he had for the Thistle Inn. The head chefs menu was outstanding, letting us try dishes that we might never have had ordered before. That SHORT RIB! Buttery, melt-in-your-mouth, blow-your-mind bite of the main dish was out of this world. Tom explained the local sourcing of the ingredients and the wines, which was great to hear. Loved learning about the history of the Thistle Inn over a fantastic meal.

Very friendly up market pub. We received a big friendly welcome and offered a table to watch the rugby. The game was close by so the pub was empty at the time. My wife had some yummy pate and cauliflower cheese. While I enjoyed a fabulous burger and chips. We were looked after with table service. The furnishings were very NZ with lovely polished timber floors and wooden tables and a large tv screen. A fabulous spot and will return again next time in Wellington. Recommended.

Delicious Fish and chips meal, yummy crispy batter and fish cooked to perfection... wasnt impressedby the coffee though, waaay too strong and a little too sweet... (perhaps I wasnt clear enough with what I asked for)

The food was fantastic. Our menu had a choice of three options, and each sounded yummy.Service was also very good.Only down side for our large group was that it was a bit loud that made it harder to hear those on your table.

When you began to eat you ... should forget what is “around” (maybe you don’t have the better table) except your partner, sure :) We were in a couple and we decided to came back as soon as possible ... to try other plates ... :)By the way, the service was impeccable!

Gorgeous old building! Lots of old world ambience. Really tasty food with generous portions. Their cheese dessert platter is massive! Two of us could only eat half of it.

It looks old, it is old with recorded history for you to see. We were with a tour group so maybe you would not have staff give details as easily that we got them. Its a pub with a bit more. Pleased to have gone but would not seek it out as not a pub person. Pleasant staff.

Dropped in for a late lunch and well impressed. This old Inn has been cleaned up but still kept parts of its history. A glass panel in the floor lets you look into the cellar. A good selection of on tap beers and the food was enjoyed.

Superb, the service is outstanding. Food is very nice too, not the typical bar snacks.

The staff are always next level friendly, helpful and welcoming. It was a very nice touch to be offered a taster of a wine when undecided and even when theyre really busy they still have a smile and dont let their level of customer service falter

We had a modest budget for our wedding, mostly we wanted good food and drink and a space to enjoy ourselves with family and friends. And this place provided great food and service with a very cool setting (its got character, being the oldest pub in town). Recommend as a function venue.

Absolutely amazing hospitality, is certainly on my go to place to shout my friends on special occassions or just take them to a place thats special to me.

Thistle Inn is an iconic Wellington gastro pub, conveniently located for Parliament and many government agencies based in Thorndon. Well over 100 years old, the building has been well-renovated and provides good-quality meals and drinks for hardworking public servants. There is also a set of function rooms upstairs.

Good friday night action. Staff were friendly and helpful. Knowledgeable on wines and good food served well and promptly.

Staff seemed uninterested and unfriendly. Hardly anywhere to sit as apparently most of the tables were reserved. Best thing I can say about it was that the beer was cold.

Cheese n crackers, battered and fried seafood platters were a great variety and very tasty, the only downside was the lack in quantity information provided for the gallon of pilsner Id ordered, other than that, a great experience :)

Food / drink a little at the pricey end but otherwise a pleasant spot. For non locals near parliament this is a much better drinking hole than Backbenches IMHO.Consider booking a table in advance.

Ordered a steak sandwich for $26, was disappointed to see it was only a bit of steak in a bun with some onion, not even a bit of lettuce or greenery of any kind.Was a waste of money

Met up here for a meal with my daughter and my old school friend whilst visiting Wellington last weekend. What a brilliant choice! The ambience was elegant, really appreciated the starched linen tablecloth and napkins, the beautiful silver cutlery, the regular top-ups of sparkling water. Meals and wines were lovely, service was excellent. Bonus was the complementary dessert wine that set off our dessert beautifully. It all combined to make the entire evening very special. They did a great job organising and running a surprise birthday party. I had booked the Georges room for 25 guests and it had all we required. It was also quite private and worked well for our night. Thanks team

Went here for a Christmas lunch which was really disappointing & very pricey. Had to order off the set Christmas menu albeit maybe due to communication error with the person who booked. For $50 we got a modest main (it was nice) and a petite desert (option for Xmas mince custard or no joke.. A few Strawberries and cream) . This was One of the most expensive meals Ive ever had and Im not really sure what my $50 went towards, especially as similar items on the normal menu didnt cost that much. Perhaps it was the cheap Xmas crackers on the table?? It also took half an hour for our order to be taken and the main an hour and 15 minutes from when we arrived to come out. Too long for a lunch time booking on a work day catering to a corporate crowd.Normally the thistle is great but this was a disappointing experience 😢
