Good place to visit,Old one,Careful with children,as there was no protective heights and fences, and road was very heavy traffic,Main problem was total footpath was occupied and made as sleeping area by many people.Prakasham Barrage is constructed on Krishna river which is connecting road bridge between Krishna and Guntur districts of Andhra Pradesh. The length of this barrage is 1.2 km long. Around 7 Lakh acres land is irrigating under this barrage. This barrage is named as Prakaram barrage in respect of Tanguturi Prakasham who is First Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. It was constructed between 1852 to 1855 at a Cost of 2 Crore Rupees, which was designed by Sir Arthur Cotton and was built by Capt. Orr.Best time to visit is in the Monsoon season that to in the evening it will be so nice to see with decorated lights.
Prakasam Barrage is very next to the famous Kanaka Durga temple, Vijayawada which is constructed on Krishna River and connects Guntur district and Krishna District. The width of the bridge is small and the safety precautions are also less, children should be very very careful. We can stop our vehicle on road and enjoy the view of Barrage. The water looks clear and the view of the Barrage looks wonderful with some beautiful sky.For more details and posts, please visit :LETSTRAVELHYDERABAD on Instagram.
One the best and oldest dam located in Vijayawada. The Prakasam Barrage stretches 1223.5 m across the Krishna River connecting Krishna and Guntur districts. The barrage serves also as a road bridge and spans over a lake. The three canals associated with the barrage run through the city of Vijayawada, crossing it and giving it a Venetian appearance.Andhra Pradesh largely owes its rich agriculture to the Prakasam Barrage as the project facilitated the irrigation of large tracts of farmland. The Barrage provides views of the lake. It has become a tourist attraction of Vijayawada. On 13th Feb-2019 Andhra Pradesh chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu laid foundation to construct a new barrage named Vykuntapuram Barrage on krishna river nearly 25 km upstream of Prakasam Barrage.
Prakash’s Barrage is an Engineering marvel which was built in the 80’s to store Krishna water. It’s located near the entrance of Vijaywada City,Opposite to Durga Temple Hill.Must visit place at the night as it will be lit up with all the colourful lights and a site to be seen. This has numerous gates and if the water is filled to the brim it’s an amazing site.Do visit here if you are in Vijaywada.
I think at first it was one and only the way to enter into krishna district. We have to feel very happy because it was built in those days. If you would like to see the way how beautiful it is.....I cannot describe about it.

The idea of constructing a dam across the river Krishna dates back to 1798. It began in the hands of captain Buckle and was revised in 1839 and 1841 by Captain Best and Captain Lake. After the endorsement of Major Cotton, the board of Directors of the East India Company approved it on 5 January 1850. The dam was started in 1852 and completed in 1855. It cost Rs 1.75 crore in those days and seems to have paid the then government a return of 18%. It used to irrigate 7 lakh acres.[1] Later, the State Government constructed a bridge that was named after Tanguturi Prakasam, the first Chief Minister of Andhra (a state formed in 1953, which later became Andhra Pradesh in 1956 after the merger of Telugu speaking districts of former Hyderabad State). Completed in 1957, it helps to irrigate over 1.2 million acres of land. This barrage also supplies water to Buckingham canal which was initially constructed as an inland navigation canal but was later used as an irrigation water supply canal.

One of the ancient dam existing Prakasam Barrage across River Krishna was constructed during 1954 to 1957 in place of old Anicut just 104Ft upstream side near Vijayawada City in Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh, below the confluence of the Musi, it passes through a narrow gorge and enters the plains of Coromandal coast, till at Vijayawada.
Beautiful view over Krishna river....nice place to visit when weather is cool
I loved this place.... Try spending time between 9pm and 7am because, due to heavy traffic in the day time you cant feel the nature.🤗💙 #coolbreeze💙
This place is our “VIJAYAWADA’S” Icon, beautiful place to visit with family, this barrage is the connecting two districts Krishna & Guntur. Early mornings and Evenings are the best times to visit this place. For photography lovers this is best place to go in Vijayawada. Night time is very calm and superb time to take snaps. Near to this place many sightseeing places are located like Kanaka Durga Temple, Undavalli caves, Bhavani islands, Krishna ghat and many more to see .
Very nice and clean place, easy to reach from Vijayawada Junction and its near to Durga ghat, Kanak durga maa.Scenery is awesome.
Only people with acquired taste can enjoy the true ambience of this place. Most of the crowd is only here for photos but the view from the view from Krishna River Park is splendid. Just come over on a nice evening and watching the sunset is the beautiful experience Ill always cherish. And when the gates are opened, its a whole new experience. Irrespective of the time of the day, this is one of my favourite spots in the City.
It was nice place to vist with family. And having a lot of happiness

A spectacular landscape on both sides of the bararage with storage on one side and release of water on the other side through sluice gates and desperation of river is clearly visible in the form of waves moving forward. Its pleasant walk across the bridge beside the barrage to cross from one side to another to enjoy the cool weather on a hot day.

The mighty krishna river flows through the eastern ghats into the sea whose delta is a vast center for prawn cultivation and rich agriculture. This river has been the Deccan connection to the world since ages. The barrage has 20 gates. Its decorated with lights during festivals. It looks incredible during night with decorated lights. Finally its piece of engineering marvel, when you stand and see the water flowing under you.Go by walk if you want to enjoy the view by parking your vechile somewhere maybe near temple or bustand.
Wow what an enchanting view of this barrage. Its a very nice view and it would be very fine having a walk in evening. This Barrage catches everyone eyes who passes by it. The water flow is now high and so it gives an attractive view to this place. And very near to it is the KANAGA DURGA TEMPLE. So this Barrage also attracts the pilgrims who come to that temple. People visiting Vijayawada must visit this place. There is also a spot for taking Selfies with background MANA AMARAVATI by TIMES OF INDIA. So its a great spot in Vijayawada.
Excellent opportunity to see that place. 100 % natural air, peaceful scenery. Everyone try to see that place once.
When the Krishna reservoir is full you can get to see the beautiful sunrises and sunsets regularly.
