Built around 1584 by Hyder Khan, is an 80-foot-high (24 m) tower standing to the north of Dakhani Idgah in Vijayapura. This is a spherical structure with stone steps winding round the outside. Top of the tower offers a commanding view of the city. This is also known as “Hyder Burj”, “Upli Burj”. On top of Upli Burj there are two guns of huge size. The parafeet this tower which was used for monitoring purposes has been fenced now. One needs to climb the circular stairs to reach the top. However except for this tower there is very little evidence of the citadel wall in this area due to rampant construction.Nearest airports are Goa, Pune and Hyderabad International airports. Belagavi is the nearest domestic airport.Nearest airports are Goa, Pune and Hyderabad International airports. Upli Buraz is one of the historical monuments of the historical city Bijapur(Vijayapur). It was built around 100 feet height to view around the city. Everything around the Bijapur city can be seen clearly.Groves are kept there at the top of Upli Buraz. The New generation must show interest to see such monuments and try to know much about our history specially engineering technology, purpose of the building, its stiffness and so many other things. It is situated in the center of the city and easy to reach it from Bus stand or Railway station.

This place is historical with 2 canons on top.I think this was a watch tower like structure during those days. You can clearly see almost vijayapura from here.Still I am wondering how could these heavy weighted canons has been shifted to top of it. Great dedication and determination of our ancestors.

The Upli Burz is a defensive tower built in.around 1584 by Hyder Khan as part of the old fortification walls of Bijapur. Its a large spherical tower, 24 metres high with commanding views of the surrounding area. The tower stands almost on its own with little evidence that it was once connected to a defensive system, though you can still see the old walls in the surrounding area.Getting to the top of the tower involves climbing circular steps around the outside of the tower. At the top of the tower, the platform offers a commanding view of the city and theres also two cannons of huge size there.Upli Burz is a protected monument, though theres little evidence of much protection. Its free to enter and worth a quick stop if youre in the area. It’s also one of the more interesting things to see in Bijapur.

(Visited in June 2019) - A spot of history surrounded by houses, Cannons atop a fort/fort tower in Bijapur/Vijayapura - you could get a nice view of the city from here. There are no no information/sign boards about the monument. It is walkable from the more popular Malik-E-Maidan cannon. Be careful as climbing these old steps could be exhaustive.

IInd best spot after Golf Gumbaz. Tourists must visit this place, because U can view Whole Bijapur city including Gol Gumbaz & other places on the top of Upli Burz. Steps are 70+3. Better to climb in the morning & evening within 6 p.m.Situated very near to bus stand. U can also visit Mulak E Maidan sightseeing by walk from here. There is also flag hoisting point in which on August 15 1957 Indian flag is hoisted.

Upli Burz is one of the historical old watch tower monument situated nearby Malik-e-Maidan Cannon at a distance of around 260 metres.Usually Tourist who visit Malik-e-Maidan monument also visit Upli buruz. This ancient monument has circular shaped base of basalt stone masonry. The unusual thing is the stone slabs of approximately 3 feet to 5 feet long and 2- 3 feet width and thickness may be around 9 to 12 inch weighing several tons were erected and positioned at around 80 feet height high, the staircase of heavy stone with rise and tread are 3- 4 feet width and approximately 1 feet height are constructed around the circular wall of burz. The idea which is used for construction is simply marvellous. The height of the tower is around 80 feet high in including its parapet wall.Approximately there are about 80 steps to reach the height at upper base where two iron heavy cannons were installed to a provide cover for Malik-e-Maidan cannon during the war and also to keep a watch beyond the fort. The fort section is around 300 m far from the upli buruz. It is very near to Malik-e-Maidan cannon monument.ine can see beautiful Ariel view of Bijapur city from the tower and other few monuments.

I happened to visit Vijaypur recently. Town is full of monuments but not maintained well. Water scarcity is much. Roads also not good.In South Indian villages cow dung mixed with dry grass pasted on walls, later being used to burn in household. This material is called Uppily. This Hyder Burj walls were used for Uppily. Later Hyder Burj name changed to Uppily Burj. Burj in Arabic word means Tower. It is a watch tower.Visiting this town in winter is pleasant. In third week of February also very hot.

A must see place when visiting Vijayapura/Bijapur. The canons on the top are huge. I had never see ones these big. Legend says one was for Mughals coming from North and other for Marathas coming from West. One wonders how they managed to move these up there, when the bigger one is said to weigh 32 tonnes. According to legends the canons were welded at the top, made from smaller rings, which is evident from the surface of the canons.
