This nice hidden Japanese restaurant offers high quality fresh seafood in a quiet atmosphere. The happy hour specials are quite affordable. Everything is right about it from the presentation of the dishes to the texture and flavors. Excellently executed food and drinks. Would definitely give it a five star rating if the waiter had not forgotten the ice (had to ask three times for it). There’s not a lot of reasons for me to go to Yaletown but Honjin will be one of them.
So sad to see you go. Food and service quality was excellent. Prices were fair. I miss this place. An unfortunate casualty of covid. Damn it!
Liked the food offerings here, cozy place quiet and nice service... Unfortunately business has suffered drastically thoughout the Covid 19 pandemic and when I went to order some food I found the place is shut down and permanently at that... The property is for lease.... Gone....
This place should have better ratings. The yammy rolls are awesome. Service is always really good. I was just ordering takeout and got a drink, the owner noticed it was not frosty and comped me a new one before I even realized. I think that level of service is rare and much appreciated.
Quick, service. Great Quality. As a Vancouverite of many years, I have experienced many sushi places with great reviews. Many, fall short because you can see the reviews are all about the quantity and cheapness. Honjin is great quality with a decent price. A perfect balance without breaking the bank. I will continue to eat here over others in the area.
Nice little place hidden in small plaza across the street from Urban Fare. Waitress always promptly refill our tea (almost too promptly sometimes, like shes always walking around with the teapot...)Food is great, especially the grilled dishes.
Enjoyed the authentic Japanese experience! Id need to taste a lot more food to decide on the Fifth star. But since I did enjoy the light meal and sake, I have rated this 4 stars.
We have eaten at Hon Jin several times and always found the food to be incredibly tasty and of a very high standard. This is complimented by efficient and friendly service. All in all highly recommended if you are in Yaletown Vancouver!
Decent restaurant.Fresh sushi, good service, great deals on their lunch menu.
Great service and food. The chef makes his own special rolls, youve got to try the spring time roll! Moderately priced but very well priced for right on the edge of Yale town.
Its a really nice and decent Japanese restaurant with affordable price in Vancouver. Especially the chefs selection, salmon tartar. It was impressively delicious! Also family-friendly .Highly recommended :D
Very kind staff and exceptional service.
Best sushi in Vancouver!! The lunch bento box is awesome, highly recommend 😁
Got my order wrong, and food made me sick. Would not recommend this place to my worst enemy
Great place! Servers are really good! 😉
My dad is a big fan of this restaurant. I have eaten here a couple times and enjoyed it. They have a more diverse menu than most Japanese restaurants and many non-sushi options. Both times we let them pick what to eat and gave them a total amount of money to spend and everyone left happy.
Seafood udon was yummy. Good service.
Decent Japanese restaurant. Not the most authentic, more like a Chinese Japanese restaurant. They do offer robata and they are not bad. You can choose (cost extra) wild instead of farmed salmon.
Very good sushi and service.
Its OK but not that special compared to other places.. A bit pricey too. The patio outside and the atmosphere inside are nice though!
The food at this place is amazing, particularly love the sashimi and raw tuna here! The service here is fast and the staff are very polite- highly recommend this place for the great food and lovely atmosphere.
Great food. Really nice people that work there. Highly recommend.
All the vegetarian options were good but the service was quiet slow.
Male waiter only took one persons order before leaving the table. Had to be flagged down to take the others. Seemed to Also be behaving quite strangely. Also literally had to get up to get our own water from the pitcher. Food wasnt worth price.
Been coming here on a weekly basis since we moved to Yaletown nearly 2 years ago. Excellent quality food and great staff. A true gem!
One of my fave places for sushi & Japanese food in Vancouver (and thats saying something)
Best sushi Ive had outside of Japan. Hands down. Brilliant all 3 times Ive gone. No mayo in the rolls makes me happy!! Real sushi.
Good place for casual food
Pretty good sushi spot in Yaletown with responsible prices
I have been to a lot of places and this place is always consecutively good. The quality of the fish is always excellent. I normally always go for all sashimi and have never been disappointed! Always fresh. They have some pretty good funky rolls too. The staff is always super friendly. I have been her about 10 time and have always loved what I have received! One of the top sushi places in vancouver for sure.
Food was fresh and delicious. Service needs to be a little better, but we enjoyed our meal.
Great service and very good food. Have been here with small and larger groups of friends and have always enjoyed the experience!
I ordered sashimi, and the waitress asked me what do you mean by sashimi? and no one understood what I meant by asking if I could get a side order of avocado.
Opened 20 years must have something that others dont have, very traditional Japanese style food, various sushi rools and made fancy
Ok sushi place near yaletown. More selection in lunch menu compare to other sushi around yaletown but quality is just ok
Very friendly staff, the sushi taste great, not very pricey. But the place is infested with fruit flies, multiple times I had flies swimming either in my soy sauce or inside the soysauce bottle. These guys really need to start looking into the hygiene conditons considering raw food is being served
Great sushi and excellent deluxe sunomono, best I very ever taste
Yes, I keep forgetting to review this restaurant. Usually come here with visitors who want to be downtown. Its one of my favourite Japanese sashimi sushi restaurants and my goto for a downtown /Yaletown location. Can walk the seawall and get gelato within a block walk. Should take pictures next time as they have excellent presentation and the staff are also great.
Preordered online a noodle soup and a roll and paid for it. Got in there with two table seated no one cared to ask if I needed help. Had find someone and the person was like im busy can you wait? ok I will wait. The person were no where to be found so asked another girl and she said they did not see my order ready. Okay it is 15min past the time I asked for and it has been two hours since I ordered it. The Manager or the owner came out checked that I did order and pay for it, so apologized and said would you please wait a little more I will have the kitchen rush it. If I have not paid for it I would just walk away but I since I already did I agreed to wait a little more. 10min 20min passed by no one came out with an order and there was barely anyone! A walkin came in and ordered and got their order! I asked the manager and was told to wait another 10min. No apologies just walked away. By the time I got my order it was 8:45 pm, 45 min after I walked in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fish Kagrage is amazing ! And had been since the day it opened. Love the sashimi, salmon tarter and the sushi shooters. All so good!
I saw a mouse, and mouse traps all over the restaurants. When you go to washroom you will smell garbage. Enough said. Better to avoid if you do not want to get food poisoning
The food is not bad and the servers are very kind, but the manager is poor at service.
Food is decent. Service is not. Have been here multiple times and even when it isnt busy, it takes a while for anyone to take your order, food to arrive or the bill to come. There have been times when the table next to us were served while we were waiting and were completely ignored.
Service and sake were good, same as most dishes. Tempura was not cooked in a good oil and felt heavy later on our system. The glass of chardonay was substandard too.
Not fancy but very good food for low prices
Super value for money. Try the hot lobster maki.
Great place for lunch. Price is good, food is fresh, decent menu options, quick and caring service
The hot food was excellent, especially the gyoza. The sushi was just medicocre.
The service used to be a mess but they really picked it up. Fish tasted fresh but thier karage is a total cop out, skip it. Its just chicken wings.
Very good value. Only complaint is the decor is a little tired.
Great quality sushi and service is awesome
Decent sushi, and good lunch combos doing week days.
In my opinion the best mid-range sushi in Vancouver.
Food was really good. Service not bad
Great for a quick lunch
We went to hanjin in downtown vancouver (yaletown area) today. The Server was rude and the food was not good. Thumbs down for these idiots at hanjin. I will never go there again.
A couple outdoor seats is nice in summer but the sushi is small and their special rolls dont combine flavors the best. If youre in the area for sushi, try Ki-isu on Pacific instead.
Not authentic. More like a Chinese trying to be a Japanese restaurant. The owner is a bit creepy.
Great quality to price ratio.
Food is good, but they got me wrong order and portion is small.
I would not recommend this place to anyone. I had a horrible experience. I went yesterday after work to place a to go order. There was maybe 3 tables seated inside and a few outside. I wouldnt consider this busy let alone for a sushi restaurant. I placed my order (2 vegie rolls + gyoza) and then sat in some chairs that were seated near the order station/bar. I waited 30 mins until I was fed up and finally got the girls attention to ask what was going on with my order. I let her know I had been waiting for 30 mins. I usually find most places when you order to go only take 10-15mins. So to wait 30 mins in a place that was pretty empty was insane. The girls reply wasnt I am sorry to hear that or what is your name it was like uh have you even paid. This girl took my order and took my payment so obviously she wasnt with it. Even if she forgot who I was I have been sitting right there for 30 mins and no one even approached me to see if I need help or to ask why I was there. Finally she asked for my name and they pulled this order that was off to the side and gave it to me. No one even called my name when the order was ready, this girl wasnt paying any attention to realize my order was up and I was there for 30 mins waiting. I was watching them pack the orders but didnt see mine as it wasnt in a see through container like some I saw. I saw them pack this one bag and put it off to the side. My order was sitting there for at least 10mins and NO ONE told me or thought to ask the girl sitting there if she needed help or if she was waiting for an order. If I had any idea that was mine I would have approached them earlier.Once I had the sushi and started to eat it, it was nothing special at all. The ginger was runny and had run all over the bottom of the container making the bottom of my sushi all mushy. I have had better sushi at super cheap places. The sushi at City Market even tastes better than what I had ordered. I was unimpressed. I chose this place because it came up on the top of Google and Yelp and had the best rating. I will not be returning nor would I suggest anyone eat there.
Just because it has a nice location does not justify the tiny portions. Next!
Food is consistently good, however, service differs day to day. Sometimes the owner would be in a good mood but other days he acts like he hates his job.
Great sushi, great selection, very expensive
The food is just Ok. The bold guy serving there is very rude. Not recommended at all
Happy hour is great, and the sushi is best price in Yaletown
Love this place ,people food is Great
Good food. Good service.

The Yaletown Roll changed my life!
