Karan Singh, son of Rana Amar Singh, was crowned the king of Mewar in 1620, at the age of 36.He added Karan Mahal, Zenana Mahal & many rooms, courtyards to the City Palace. He also renovated Ranakpur temple in 1621.Jagmandir was constructed by the 3 Maharanas of Mewar kingdom. Its construction was started in 1551 by Maharana Amar Singh, then continued by his son Maharana Karan Singh during 1620-28 & finally completed by Maharana Jagat Singh I during 1628-52.Rana Karan Singh shelters Mughal Prince Khurram(Shah Jahan) at Jagmandir during 1623-24 for few months, when he revolted against his father Jehangir.Jag Mandir’s dome & fine inlay work impressed Shah Jahan so much that, he incorporated these features in Taj Mahal.Rana Karan Singh II died in 1628.He was succeeded by his son Rana Jagat Singh I.
