The Udaipur Solar Observatory (USO) at Udaipur is under the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), (a Unit of Dept. of Space Govt. of India), with its main office at Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The solar observatory is located on an island in the Fatehsagar Lake. This is not a public place so tourists cant go on the island but can see it from the shore. Parents can take their young kids to show the Observatory from outside and motivate them to pursue a career in scientific research. There are scientific reasons why Observatory is located in the lake. Genuinely interested parents can even plan, and request in advance to meet some scientists when convenient. Even the parents interested in astronomy may find this place interesting. Please note that this place is not for any kind of entertainment.
The Udaipur Solar Observatory is in Udaipur, Rajasthan on an island in the Fateh Sagar Lake. Currently the observatory is closed for visits. Fateh Sagar lake is a tourist attraction for boating in Udaipur. In order to take a closer look at this observatory from outside boating services are available where the boat rides are available in order to carry the tourist around the lake. The boat service also makes sure that the tourist could watch and have a closer look of the observatory from all sides. An artist is also on board who plays Ravanahatha ( an instrument) for entertainment of the people on board.
The Udaipur Solar Observatory (USO) is in Udaipur, Rajasthan in India on an island in the Fateh Sagar Lake.[1] The sky conditions at Udaipur are quite favourable for solar observations. Since the observatory is situated amidst a large mass of water, air turbulence which occurs due to ground heating by suns rays is decreased. This improves the image quality and accuracy (average between 1-2 arc seconds).
India bigest solar observatery
A heaven for solar physics researchers
Udaipur Solar Observatory (USO) is on an island in the middle of Fateh Sagar Lake built for doing solar research work.It was built in 1976 by Dr. Arvind Bhatnagar,It comprises a range of telescopes that provide excellent quality of solar observations. As air turbulence is lesser on an island, sharp pictures of the sun can be obtained.Asias biggest telescope MAST(Multi Application of Solar Telescope) was installed here in 2013. The MAST has a lens with a diameter of 50cm.It provides 3D images of solar blast & solar flares.
Solar observatory is located on island inside Fateh Sagar lake. This is one of the best solar observatory in India. This has a variety of telescopes, high-resolution solar chromospheric, magnetic field, velocity, and spectral observations, for studies pertaining to solar flares, mass ejections, and the evolution of solar active regions. Since 1981, USO has been managed by the Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad, for the Department of Space, Government of India.
That area is know as RANI ROAD.... Its a very peaceful place to visit and spend your time!!
The place is haunted. Heard that the govt is developing a secret weapon and the lab has tranches deep within the Fatehsagar lake. If you ever go near it, the guards will shoo you off like they do at Area 51. Tread at your own risk.
It was nice to see a place surrounded by water, when its time of sunset.
Its in the middle of fatehsagar, in these there is Indias largest telescope and the normal visitors are not allowed in these office and observatory
This is the heart of fatehsagar lake, become more beautiful

Very nice service and all products available
Location is great. Middle of the lake. Garden is not well maintained. We visited in October, still found some part of the park water logged. The cafeteria is uniquely located. But has limited menu. The overall surrounding is out standing. Great mountain view.
If you are interested in astronomy you should try to visit here, I went here once as school student and understood how they observe sun with the help of equipment and they keep observing what is happening to sun and on it surface with the help of huge telescope .I dont know whether its allowed or not for common people.
A unique place in udaipur. For those edpcially interested in astronomy.

It is one of the oldest solar observatory of India. There is restricted entry in observatory. The observatory made here because of pollution free environment .The sky here generally cloud free and only cloudy in Monsoon session and for a little. Secondly Udaipur city is having elevation of 500 meter by sea level . This usually comes in limelight whenever solar eclipse occurs in Rajasthan.
It is a part of Physical research laboratory.Very good facilities to study the sun.Supporting staff and good faculty and Great place.
It has Indias largest solar observatory telescope. Worth a visit. Need permission from government to visit.
This is the biggest solar observatory of Asia as it is surrounded by water and clear sky view,so it gives a correct solar observations.
Its very beautiful but common people are not allowed inside the observatory you can just see it from the boat
A solar system observatory

Udaipur Solar Observatory is considered as the best solar observing site in Asia. Situated on an island in the Fateh Sagar Lake, Solar Observatory of Udaipur is among the few in the world that are sited on an island. This observatory was designed as per the model of Solar Observatory at Big Bear Lake in Southern California. In 1975, Udaipur Solar Observatory was established by Dr. Arvind Bhatnagar under the Vedhashala Trust of Ahmedabad. The organization is basically affianced in Astrological activities. However, the observatory aspires to do research in modern science.Udaipur Solar Observatory has become the perfect center to develop solar physics in India. Being surrounded by water, the island provides a favorable atmosphere for solar observations. As air turbulence is lesser on island then ground, sharp images of the sun can be acquired. Apart from this, other advantage of this observatory is that it is located in Rajasthan, which observes maximum number of cloudless days. All these factors add to quality of extracted images of the Sun.The observatory comprises a range of telescopes that provide excellent quality of solar observations. The observatory is adding a new instrument by the name of Solar Vector Magnetograph to its store-house. This instrument will play an important role in the future research program by determining the magnetic field of the active regions. It has been more than twenty-five years, since USO was established. The observatory has seen an entire solar cycle in the twenty-two years of its subsistence. Now, it is witnessing the next solar cycle. The huge longitudinal gap between Australia and Spain is plugged by USO. Udaipur Solar Observatory also provides a connection for regular solar coverage in numerous International collaborative programs including GONG (Global Oscillations Network Group). Since 1981, the observatory has been under the control of the Physical Research Laboratory (Ahmedabad) for the Department of Space, Government of India.Under GONG project, USO was numbered among the six observatories of the world that watch the sun for 24 hours. National Science Foundation of the United States that intends to study oscillations in the solar atmosphere has sponsored this project of GONG. Hence, USO is a site of national and international importance. If you are planning to visit this observatory, you have to take a boat ride to reach the observatory.

No proper detail about opening and closing. It is not open for visit.
It is one of the important places in India and its between lake. Moreover, one can understand the importance of solar power.
Asias second number solar observatory which is under water...
View is beautiful and a boat ride. Need to maintain park. No wheelchair accessible.

In Fateh Sagar center
In the middle of Fateh Sagar Lake
Its the solar observation wing of PRL. Chief attraction-1. Multi-application solar telescope.2. Member of Global Oscillation Network Group, One of the six sites chosen in the world to detect and measure solar oscillation.
Great place to work, the quit is a nice break from the city noise
This is Asias no. 1 rank solor observatory. Its is middle in fathsagar lake udaipur. Its is not a picnic spot. You have not authorized to go in solor obeservetry. But you can see this by going on boat Near this. You can take look on this
It has Indian largest solar telescope
It is one of the four lakes of the Udaipur city; the other three being: the Lake Pichola (within the Udaipur town), Udai Sagar Lake, 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) to the east of Udaipur, and Dhebar Lake or Jaisamand Lake, 52 km (32 mi) south east of Udaipur
