There are not enough stars to rate a holy place such as this. Originally, Monostary was built in 4th century and archeological team found it and it can be seen under the glass in side Monostary. It is a place of peace and love, great energy and respect to monks who served there and are rebuilding Tvrdos complex. There is always someone who will tell you about history at least for the last five hundred years. If you go here, do not wear shorts or shirt without sleeves for men and womens who enter must have covered legs and shoulders. In side the Monostary you can see icons carved in stone, holy relics, but most of all you will find peace and go home with a full hart. In front is a gift shop, pay attention what do you like, do not spend to much time because you will probably spend more money that planed. I would recommend a bottle of vine (around 8 euros, any icon that catches your eye (from 20 to 800, depending are they gold and silver plated), maybe a book and that would be it. But, you can always go with a flow and buy whatever your like. And bring a bottle of vine, white flower for baking bred and oil, that is a tradition when visiting any Monostary. But, do not miss of road leads you there.
Beautiful and quiet! A little Konoba would be nice there, to enjoy their wine and some local delicacies...:-)
Beautiful place to visit! If you are orthodox you will be like on your own, but if you are not orthodox you will be a dear guest :) Apart from the most important, the Monastery, you will find store with a lot of different kinds of quality vines and rakijas.
Extremely close to the beach nice view and i got some quality sleep here, i didnt try the food but i can assure you that it is worth the price.
Must visit this beautiful monastery and taste their excellent wine, olive oil and other home made products.
Beautiful Monastery with a lot of history, excellent ambience and great wines.
Very knowledgeable staff. Lots of old history here. Great experience! Highly recommend!
They make our favorite wine and a perfect place to visit!
I would highly recommend it to everyone. A must see! Especially a host. What a pleasant and beautiful experience. I would definitely come back. Go to the Monastery, store, have a wine tour, have a glass of wine. Do not forget to buy beautiful souvenirs, olive oil and wine! Olive oil is the best in the whole entire world. Also, Tvrdoš wine. I love sweet liturgy one. They have different tastes of red and white wine. You will definitely not to wrong with either one. Choose your own preference. Enjoy the ride and surroundings before you get there. Once you get there you will feel like you are in Italy but you are not. You are in Hercegovina. I would call it little Tuscany. Trebinje feels and looks like that. Little Tuscany. Enjoy Tvrdoš!
Nice monastary anfd vinery
Beautiful Serbian Orthodox Monastery which is a must see. Very conservative and must wear a skirt if you are a women. A good thing is that they do provide cover ups if not dress appropriate. Beautiful liturgy on a Sunday morning.
Must-see place in/near by Trebinje... very, very unique experience...
The Tvrdoš Monastery is a 15th-century Serbian Orthodox monastery near the Trebinje, Republika Srpska. The remainings of the old 4th century Roman church on the site are still visible. The monastery is dedicated to the Dormition of the Most Holy. Monastery was established in 15th century, with a cathedral constructed around 1508 and painted with murals by Vicko Lavrov from Dubrovnik in 1517. The monastery remained a seat of the Metropolitans of Herzegovina until the Venetian Empire destroyed it in 1694. The current monastery building was constructed in 1924. Today, the monastery is renowned for its wine production (in particular from the local Vranac and Žilavka grape varieties) and its wine cellars, one of which dates to the 15th century.
The priest from Romania greated us and shared the monastery history which is dated from 1600 years ago. Damage and rebuilt couple of time due to its location strategic for war. This monastery also ia the 3rd location for St.Basil pilgrm. Worth a visit. Ps: popular souvernier from this monastery is their wine.
Quite, beautiful Monastery with wine tasting
Serbian Tvrdosh Monastery -1509, Trebinje - Republic of SrpskaThe Tvrdosh Monastery is dedicated to the Assumption of the Most Holy Theotokos and was erected on the rocks of the place Tvrdosha, near the right bank of the river Trebishnjica, 4 kilometers west of Trebinje.According to the folk tradition, which, truthfully, is relatively late, the Tvrdo Monastery was founded by Sv. Emperor Constantine and his mother Jelena, and after he was demolished and left, became the endowment of the king of Serbian Milutin, at the end of the 13th or the beginning of the 14th century. The fundamental renovation was carried out in 1509 by Metropolitan of Trebinje Visarion I.Since then, the trumpet church with a cube has been preserved to this day, six stone pillars, a throne in the upper part, and parts of the walls with remains of frescoes. The monastery was for two centuries, if not more, the seat of Humsko-Hercegovacka, then called the Trebinje Metropolitanate. In the Turco-Venetian War, in 1694, the Venetians erected a church and the entire monastery with a lung of gunpowder in the air, described by Hercegovac Vladimir Corovic, credited, among other things, for the description of the history of almost all Herzegovina monasteries.Only in 1928, the new entrant Nikola Runjevac, a wealthy Trebinjac from America, was restored to the church. Then, a smaller, old ending was done, and a new and bigger conquer was erected. The great revival and intense reconstruction of the monastery has been under way since 1955 and this reconstruction has lasted until today. After the destruction of the Tvrdosh Monastery in the late seventeenth century, many spiritual and cultural high-value holy places and valuables from Tvrdosh were transferred to the Savina Monastery. This monastery continued its life not only in the Savina, but even more so in the recent metoh - the Monastery of the Dawns. In Tvrdosh was brought from the monastery Long in October 1992, the holy arm of an unknown saint, most likely Sv. Queen Elen, Milutin and Dragutins mother (as it was in the monastery, according to the record of the Sixth Monastery of the Monastery of Trebinje, now in the Savina).Today, at the Tvrdosh Monastery, with the retired Bishop Atanasi and the iguman Hieromonk Sava (Miric) with the monastic brotherhood, they take care that with the help of God and good people, the Most Holy Mother of God is renewed even more.Fresco of Milca Rakic 3 yaers killed by NATO spring 1999, Batajnica, BelgradeLittle Angel-Milica Rakić (3), who tragically kiiled in bombardment of Serbia by NATO aviation in the spring of 1999 and which became a symbol of all this horror, has had her fresco in the Tvrdosh Monastery since 2004The fresco of little Milica blessed the Serbian Patriarch Pavle
Ancient ortodox monastery.
Fine vine and beautiful monastery
Its beautiful, you can buy vine and similar products but they are making a man that killed thousands of people a good guy so I didnt buy any of the stuff there because I dont support that kind of people and while there I felt very uncomfortable
Ot is so small but monumental in same time...
Monastery is well preserved and maintained. If you are in neighborhood you should visit it
Beautiful place, it brings peace to a soul. Beautiful natural surroundings, sounds of river nearby. Highly recommended to everyone
God touched this place ...
Goood wine and peace of God.
Go there! Unbelievable. You feel the spirit and relax your mind and your soul. The history is also very interesting. The monarchs are very polite and helpful. Go there!!!
Great place, Monastery from 4 century. Very calm.
Traditional Greek orthodox Serbian monastery, worth to visit.
Much better than expected, everyone very friendly and easy going after testing some wine we bought our favorite in gift shop at a reasonable price.
Nice little monastery. One of the many in the area. Wine quality is low and the wine tasting is just boringly situated in a dark basement. Not worth the drive.
They have a wine tasting service here, though you have to pay.
Must see!
Great and excellent, strong spiritual church because of the Saints
A historical place, and the wine there is one of a kind
Nice, but.to match new,.and.no access to old parts of monestery
Beautiful and calming.
Easy 100 meter walk from the main road
Lovely wine tasting experience in beautiful surroundings.

Wonderful, peaceful
In a shop, where I wanted to buy Tvrdos wine, there were a lot of items with pictures of serbian war criminals, from last Bosnien war.
They have very nice wine cellar with possibility to try their tasty wine....There is also a very nice souvenir shop too.

The monastery church is dedicated to the Assumption of the Most Holy Mother of God, built on the foundations of the temple from the 4th century, which can be seen in the temple itself. The Tvrdoš Monastery guards the hand of Jelena Anžujska, who has a great influence in the construction and preservation of a large number of Orthodox shrines. Next to the church, there is also a winery where the grapes of the monastery are used to make wines of the Vranac and Žilavka varieties. Wine can be bought bottled in the monastery store, and also in 5l balloons in the winery itself (Im not a wine connoisseur, but its great for me). Be sure to bring something when you visit, you will regret leaving this paradise on earth without a memory :-)
I cannot describe in words what I felt in the Monastery. That peace, bliss, that feeling of happiness and serenity that took me away ... it should be felt ... I saw a big vineyard, visited their wine cellar ... and learned a lot about this Monastery ... its history .If you are able, be sure to visit it.
A small monastery near Trebinje. This monastery is very famous because Vasilije Ostroski served there. This monastery lies on the foundations of a Roman monastery from the 4th century. Tvrdos is also known for its high quality wine produced by monks. The only complaint is that they turned the souvenir shop into a boutique. Prices are high and quality is low.
Fantastic Monastery, beautiful view, Im just sorry that the Winery didnt work, so I have to go back.
A beautiful monastery complex. Feel the peace and prosperity. The monastery has its own vineyard and winery as well as the possibility of buying their wine which is beautiful. Worth a visit.
A beautiful monastery where excellent wines are made. Wines can be tasted in the cellar and bought in the shop.
It is obligatory to visit the monastery. Enjoy the peace, silence and beauty of the monastery and its surroundings. Recommendation for visiting is obligatory. The monastery products (wines, honey and olive oil) are of perfect quality.
The Tvrdoš Monastery was built on the foundations of a church dating from the 4th century AD.
Lovely monastery!Nice access, large parking, shop that has everything for everyone.I like that they put long skirts and scarves at the entrance for poserioci who didn’t prepare.Be sure to visit ...
For every recommendation. A place of spiritual development of the Orthodox population of Herzegovina. In addition, they offer an excellent selection of wines and products that can be purchased at the local shop and souvenir shop.It is also very important that you come to this shrine adequately dressed, but also that you do not come, you have the opportunity to get clothes on the spot.
Beautiful Serbian monastery only 5 km from Trebinje, famous for the fact that one of our greatest saints, St. Vasilije Ostroski, became a monk in it
Najvažnije mesto koje morate posetiti u Trebinju.
A great place that every Orthodox Serb should visit!
Nothing needs to be said about the Tvrdoš Monastery. The pictures say it all.
