Service was excellent and the presentation of food was well done but thats about all the good things I can say.If youre a fan of authentic Japanese cuisine and enjoy the freshness and lightness of sashimi, avoid this place.Firstly our tuna tataki was overpowered by the strong, garlicky sauce. The seared scallops were overcooked and lost the fresh sweetness. The torched salmon makimono did not have any taste of salmon because of how strong the condiments were. The balance of all the dishes was off. The only good thing was the tempura. For sharing plates the portion was barely enough. Expensive and disappointing.
Great evening/experience at Ki with my beautiful wife. The sharing plates were delectable & so were our mains. Our cocktails were also very good as were the desserts. The service was on point & exceptional by Jamie. As was the service by her server assistant, Seanna. They worked well together & made sure our evening & dining was great. The attention given to us was very subtle, not bordering on obtrusive or anything. My only bone of contention was the fact that the booth we were seated in was terribly ripped & looked very unruly tbh (as per picture). It really should have been repaired during the pandemic when everything was shuttered for months & more than enough time to do so….Still, that will not adversely affect my 5 star ⭐️ rating though I did seriously consider it tbh. It is something that should be given proper/due action. Attention to details is important….
Jamie is the best waitress on earth! She is so knowledgeable of the menu and she made great recommendations! I would definitely come back! The food was just heavenly tasty and Jamie was the best! Totally recommended! Best Sushi and service in Town.
Was really excited to check this place out based on other reviews.. Tempura and fried chicken apps were great - unfortunately thats where the positives end.The plates had nice presentation, but for the steep pricing, quality was nothing to write home about. Ive had far better for far less. Wife ordered the yak toki cocktail and it was awfully balanced - basically watered down campari - conned out of $17 haha. The service was also brutal. The server tried to pressure us into ordering more than we needed (and we were well into $150 all said and done) and they basically ignored us the rest of the night (had to ask multiple times for the bill). Was pretty awkward when we finally settled up.The location and vibe is sweet but know thats what youre paying top $ for - not the food or service!
Always consistent food. Always a great bartender, I usually eat at the bar. Its my neighborhood go to spot for me.
Pricey but worth it. Food was AMAZING. Everything tasted so flavourful but the flavours worked in the best ways possible. We finished our plates in a matter on minutes and did not leave a single crumb behind.
I ordered a Chirashi lunch and honestly this is the worst Chirashi I have ever had. I usually order this item from all kinds of places, it usually costs $20-$25. This place however charges $34 plus tips and tax total of $45 I expected it much better but NOPE! a few thin unevenly cut stale looking sashimi on rice, food was scattered they dont even bother to try to make it pretty like even other much cheaper places. if I get this from a food court for 10 dollars, I would say that is about right. But packaging is fancy and silver plastic folk gives you an idea that this is not from a cheap restaurant. Opening up to look the food inside, the food looks literally offensive! It could be a left over pieces just thrown on a coop of rice. I will never ever order from this place again. I understand Covid makes it difficult for restaurants but if you can not keep the quality, two suggestions; 1: Do not sell 2: if you dont bother about the quality, then lower your price. Pay attention to the second pic, that the box they used for food is literally dirty, I am suspicious it was reused or just picked up from a garbage bin, it is gross and outrageous. It is all raw fish and rice, soy sauce was in a little separate package. I can not think of what the brown stain is!
Hands down the most authentic and best sushi in Toronto. This is a hidden gem well worth the stop. One of the few sushi restaurants on which each visit feels like a little slice of Japan.
My experience from summer 2020–We ordered Ginger fried karaage chicken, ki beef maki, Antarctic sea bass sautéed in butter, torched salmon makimono, marinated grilled short ribs & for dessert, we got ice cream served with chocolate tuile & white biscotti, matcha cheesecake & chocolate truffle cake. Ah, so amazing! I highly recommend this place for your future date night events ♥️
Gorgeous restaurant with amazing decor and patio, restaurant was clean, fancy yet warm. The dishes are definitely not cheap, but taste quite good and the portions are decent. My only complain is that for sushi, it took a long time, close to 30 minutes, and the dessert took even longer... no servers coming to check up on us regularly either. Aside from that, had a good time.
Amazing spot for sushi right in the heart of the financial district in Toronto. Great vibe, good music, and very attentive staff. The spicy tuna roll was unique and different from the typical spicy tuna rolls...very tasty and just the right amount of heat. Overall great dining experience, will definitely keep this on my list the text time I’m in town for business.
Came with my family before a Raptors game: wife + 3 children ages 9-12. We thoroughly enjoyed our food. Our favorites were the pork belly, short ribs and the garlic fried rice. The lobster rolls tasted a bit bland. Creme caramel was extremely tasty. There was a bit of up-selling from the wait staff but otherwise services was good.
The food was amazing ,we ordered two rolls of sushi and two orders of sashimi and a hot dish. But we actually didnt like the diving scallops but the rest was amazing and delicious. Our server was Rose and she was very professional and nice andThe service was so good. The only thing that I really didnt like and I didnt enjoy it was the vibe ,the music was so low and we actually could hear other people speaks and the lighting features was so bad.For me as a designer would like to be in a place where I can have more like on my food and less on my face .
Ki is a really beautiful Japanese restaurant locates right in the middle of downtown Toronto. About 5 mins walk from union station. So pretty much great access. The restaurant was beautiful with a warm ambience and inviting. My friend and I enjoyed our dinner there. The waitress was really lovely and she was happy to explain some meals to us. She was quite knowledgeable and friendly. The food itself was great however quite expensive, we didn’t know when we had racked up almost $200 for dinner for 2 people but it was well worth it so I would definitely recommend.
Jeff was amazing and kind! He made sure our table was taken care of … thank you for great service 🙌
Very nice place, not great for meat lovers. All other items are very good.
We had just finished a business meeting and we had no reservations, bur This place was quick to get a seated and gave us a really nice and cozy place by the pond, right there is a Koi Pond (sans the fish) with in the restaurant .They have a lunch menu which is basically an all inclusive lunch or else you can order from the alacarte menu.I chose the seasonal veg tempura (picture here) and the veg sushi rolls with avocado and peppers Spicy Avacado rolls.Friends ordered other meat dishes andLoved them too !Great service and a great place to hangout and eat !
Energetic ambienceFood is goodGood presentationToo long wait time for food when I went but it was rush hour
Excellent experience at Ki. The staff are pleasant and helpful. The restaurant is very lovely and casual. We enjoyed a variety of dishes and everything was delicious. The steak and lamb were cooked perfectly and very tasty. The dessert was the chocolate truffle cake which was actually just a giant truffle, very rich and extremely chocolatey!
Such a nice sake pairing dinner event, the breweries reps were around and explain the sake details to us. We had tried out 8 types of sake for the whole night. Regarding the foods, I personally like the maguro with watermelon, it was so refreshing, and also the cucumber-mint soup can help to increase appetit... definitely these 2 dishes are perfect for summer. Also, the grilled octopus was so tender and with a touch of charcoal smell.
Food was ok nothing special but the place itself is beautiful & the bartender was quick!
Been here twice already, both during the pandemic. Absolutely loved the food and the sake sommelier is very knowledgeable about the variety of sake out there.
Love this place! Highly recommended ❤️
You are paying for the atmosphere and service. Food is average. And you get the smallest amount of food ever.
One of my fav sushi places in all of Toronto. I come here regularly. Every time I eat here, I really enjoy the food as well as the wonderful ambiance. Thank you!
We have been going here since 2005. Even though the menu changes, the quality and uniqueness of the dishes are consistently amazing! With the new menu, I am going to crave a lot of dishes but especially the grilled A5 Miyazaki Wagyu skewers, the fried eggplant with momiji as well as the date cake with miso caramel😋The staff are awesome, very professional and pays attention to detail.
I came here with a friend on a Saturday night around 6pm.Since my friend was gluten-free she was given a separate menu, which quite honestly was pretty extensive.Although our food was very tasty, I can honestly say that only 2/4 items were absolutely fantastic, while the other two were just ok.We got the following:*Spicy Tuna Makimono*Torched Spicy Salmon Roll*Spicy Maguro + Sake on mini crispy rice cakes ( GF )Garlic-Fried RiceGrilled Beef Striploin Tataki ( GF through special request )My favourites were the Spicy Tuna Makimono, the Torched Spicy Salmon Roll & the Spicy Maguro + Sake on mini crispy rice cakes.I was a little disappointed by the Garlic-Fried Rice because it was literally just white rice tossed with toasted garlic cloves. I was really hoping there mightve been some veggies in it.The service was AMAZING.Hot Towel at the beginning of our meal, complimentary coat check, great ambiance, customizations to the menu as per our gluten-free requests, & complimentary truffles at the end of our meal. While I did enjoy my experience, theres about a 50/50 chance I would come back here.
Thank you for my delicious birthday dinner :) we were too busy enjoying our dinner that we forgot to take pictures. the staff are amazing and Chef Hing, your food/creations are delicious!!!! ur wagyu sando is sooo good, the black cod is so buttery, the avocado tempura is yum (subtle seasonings, not ur usual tempura batter). What a pleasant surprise for my first time to ki, but not my last visit.
Loved the vibe and the atmosphere in this place! Our server Jaime was amazing and we went with many of her suggestions. The Butterfish was really good as was the Spicy Salmon roll and everyone loved the Beef Ribs! We didnt order dessert but they very nicely gave us chocolates stuffed with Pop Rocks which were fun to eat. It is quite pricey for sushi so would definitely not frequent this place.
Ok, seaweed salad was awesome but had to eat in a rush because I did not have a reservation, but was still ok, a massive patio, would go again with a reservation so i can enjoy to the max
I ate here 3 years ago, and till this day, even though it was 3 years ago I can still remember the amazing time I had. Every year that goes by on the day I went, I long for the experience that was so exceptional and that fatty tuna belly. The food was delicious and the service from Jessica was impeccable she deserves a lot of praise! I would recommend this restaurant to everyone!
One of my favorite places for Japanese fare in Toronto. Upper scale professionalism noticed in staff both at reception and table service. Impressive and tactful floorplan (leading to a popular patio as weather permits). Food is always well prepared with appropriate check-ins to make sure all of your needs are met. 5/5 stars
Love the food! And service...
Nice place with excellent service. Try their kale miso eggplant and ginger fried karaage
The food here was delightful! The staff are very accommodating and friendly. Theyve done very well with their covid precautions leaving you feeling safe to enjoy the space and eat here. Ive always wanted to try Panacotta and their chocolate one was SO good. It did not disappoint. Portion sizes are decent and plated nicely. I will return for sure!
Just visited this restaurant for lunch - a few note:1. Service was amazing. We had two people tending to our table of 10 at all times.2. Presentation of the food was superb.3. The food was very tasty4. Dessert was oh, so great - I tried the Crème Caramel and the Matcha cheesecake - both great options4. Female washroom was beautiful (didnt get a chance to take a pic)I would definitely recommend this restaurant - great for dinner parties, work lunches, romantic dates...
Very tasty and great service. Very pricey also but its expected.
Eh, its a spot to go for final-night drinks once everything else is closed.
Decent dinner spot, but nothing outstanding in terms of ambiance or food. Inside it has a mixed vibe: loud bar good for casual catch-up with friends over drinks as well as a back seating area for a proper dinner. I had a miso creamy chowder (yammie rich soup with a creamy texture and nicely paired with smokey crunchy chips), unagi nigiri (good), dynamite roll (disappointing, rather blunt taste, and too dry), and a green tea ice cream (delicious). The service was okay with waiters regularly checking on me, however I got the check before asking for it (felt like I was rushed out). Overall verdict: 3 stars!
Definitely coming back here. The lobster roll was great and we got a few other things we enjoyed. Staff was very accommodating even though I was running late. 10/10!
Decent food, very good service
Great place with good food
Went to Ki last week for the first time and it won’t be the last! It is definitely a high-end sushi restaurant with a contemporary atmosphere. The drinks, food and dessert were all amazing, as well as the service. Bonus, there is coat check at the main entrance and a bar for anyone who’s looking to just have a couple drinks. (If you’re a martini fan, highly recommend the lychee martini!)
Been here about 6-7 times, and the exceptional service stood out to me every single time. Ive never had to wait minutes in order to wave the server down, they will gladly take items back if its not what you expected. This place also experiments more with the menu than your average restaurant, Ive had some very ambitious dishes here (watermelon with beef or fish?). Not everything is a home run, some dishes taste quite odd, but overall a great experience every time.
We always enjoy visiting Ki, its our only place of choice for sushi. Fresh and high quality ingredients contribute to the deliciousness of Kis dishes. Im dropping a star, as I ordered a takeaway cheesecake and this was placed in a black plastic container. Unfortunately black plastic isnt recyclable in Toronto, Ki perhaps needs to revisit their sustainability practices.
This place is Zaget rated. Our food came quickly. Maguro, Sake were fresh and flavourful. California maki was lovely. The butterfish was done well, still moist. The service was friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was relaxing, chill and modern. Clean washrooms, paper towels are available. Tap is not automatic nor was soap dispenser. They have a bin near the door to throw paper towels after opening the exit door, thankfully.
Amazing food and upscale atmosphere
Some of the best Japanese food I have had outside of Japan. I have been many times, the food and staff have been great every time. They are always great !!
The food was amazing, our server was so sweet. Our food took over 45 minutes, when I asked why they said because they sat tables all at the same time which I don’t think was the case judging from the tables around us on the patio. The manager was super stuck up, didn’t even apologize or acknowledge the fact we were waiting a long time for sushi which normally is very quick.
Very nice ambiance and food. But there could be a little more food for what the customer pays. Portions are almost too small.
Everything was good and well prepared
Solid high end sushi!
It’s alright, expensive but to be expected for the location.
Outdoors, warm, with the heaters. Excellent service. Lots of space between tables.
A bit pricey, but the sushi is worth it! Always find something interesting on the menu and the food is consistently delicious. Service is professional and courteous. Great for lunch of youre in the district. 👍
It had been a very long time since I went to Ki and so when an opportunity to go for lunch came up I jumped on it.Ki continues to be top notch in terms of service, dish preparation, quality of fish (and other ingredients), and also atmosphere. You do pay the price for that quality but Ki is definitely a worthwhile experience!Your meal starts with warm towels delivered to the table which is very much appreciated on cold days! Try the rock shrimp and the maple tamari tuna!
I sent my friends to this restaurant with my warmest recommendations. I visit this restaurant often. This recommendation is always successful. The meals are appetizing and the stuff is efficient and cooperative. Whenever we eat in this place we enjoy a cheerful evening. warmly recommended.
Food was creative but taste wise nothing out of this world, at least for the steep prices we paid.
This place never dissapoints. Although service could have been a little better, the meal was amazing as always. Staff worked well while dealing with the Covid-19 restrictions.
Came for lunch. Food was great. Fresh and food was served hot. The other complaint and a MAJOR one I have was the service. Had to remind him twice for my hot water as I was under the weather and the extra sauce we asked for came after the dish was finished. We had to flag the waiter to take our order. Never came by to refill our water. The waiter never said thank you after we paid. We were never rude them and spoke to them politely. So not sure why such bad service.
Good service. Our Lobster tempura was perfectly cooked and worth the price.
Great restaurant
Exceptional service warmly greeted by manager, Nurali and staffEscorted & Seated promptly, all protocols taken for Covid!delightful ambiance, outside with heater! The menu is remarkable, phenomenal recommendations from Nurali !!Kudos to manager and staff.Outstanding service, will return. Thanks for the memories!
Really good food, nice restaurant and great service. They were very accommodating to my partners gluten allergy. They had a seperate gluten free menu with lots of options and were very mindful throughout the course of our meal. Lovely place.
The service staff are great, attentive and friendly! The interior design is very dated, so the atmosphere is lacking. The food was below average, a bit too try hard, felt they focused to hard on being inventive then on how the dish tasted.
