Best place to gain more knowledge about Indian Railways..Best place to spend time with family and friends..Must go..
A nice place to take your kid for playing and for a thrilling train ride...Less crowded most of the time, so kids can choose which ride they can play instead of waiting...Also, little grown ios can learn the history of how our indian railways evolved through years.
Very informative Museum . Must Visit if you are interested in Indian Railways. Nice park to spend time with the kids located in centre of the city.. toy train is there for kids(adults allowed too)
Nice experience walking through the history of Indian Railways. No guided tours or such.Just a walkthrough by yourselves and you got a park in front of this museum for kids 😁.Toy train services was suspended the day I visited ( no one was around to ask why 🙄).Walkable distance from TPJ and Trichy Central bus stand.
Good. peaceful place. I usually go there to study.
Good Ambience there.. But Please take care all Vintage Items in there.
The museum is well-maintained and the entry fee is very nominal. There is a play area outside which the kids would enjoy. Most of the items in the museum is with photos and the items used in pre British era railways. Could cover the entire museum in 30 mins.
A Nice Place To Visit. This place is Mainly For Kids To Enjoy
Good place to visit for enjoyment
Good place for kids to enjoy.
Very good for childrens
Great place and silent place
Good collection of railway equipments, procedures followed in railways, things used by railway officers.More technical knowledge enhancement after a visit. Collection of Mechanical equipments for railways. The toy train is a joy for kids. Nice parking space. Well connected to the city.
Quite dusty artifacts. Dust coated erstwhile accessories on display. Upkeep is need of the hour both for the articles on display and the premises. The park in the front is well patronized by kids. The gallery arrangement could be more spacious.
Not maintained well... No Water and Toilet specility!!
Lots of historical trains over the world, India, and models. Pics are available. Tanks and trains parts are displayed nicely. One toy train can amuse your child also there is 3 4 swings for the children. Overall good place to spend 1hr.
Nice ti watch for kids
Wow.. good place to visit with kids, old-age train information displayed in Museum.. toy train available to go round with your family. Kids play area also there.. its very near to Trichy railway station.
Good entertainment for trichy people also as they do have mini train ride where kids are enjoying much with elders. Museum is good and should know how we handle and manage railways. Itll be good if they have small Shop for kids like snacks, etc as no need to go outside.
This place is located just adjacent to Tiruchirapalli Junction. Ample amount of parking for two wheeler. Entry ticket ar Rs. 10 for adult and Rs. 5 for children. Toy train ride at Rs 10 per person. Toy train ride takes approx 8 or 9 minutes. Other than that there are swings for children. One old car and a couple of other exhibits are there. one hall comprising 3 rooms showing old items. Place is worth a visit for kids of around 5 years of age. Toy train ride is good. Other than that just a park with swings.
An interesting connection of memorabilia and equipment from South Indian railway history saying back to the mid 19th century. An array of photographs and illustrations along with an assortment of equipment - from ticket machines and gangmate badges to signal lanterns and communication devices - bring railway history to life. A must-visit for every rail fan and history buff.
There are couple of old train engines and some cars are there. Some vintage tools/ machinaries of railway can be seen inside .A small park is there for kids.Parking adequate.Entry fee 10Rs.
Useful place for kids. Ive expect more train models but mostly theyve photos only. Kids will enjoy to play and love to ride on the train.
This museum is mostly dedicated to Southern Railway, although some artefacts related to Railways of other zones can also be seen. It is located near to Trichy Railway station and can be reached here by walk. The museum is built on a wide area of land and is very well-constructed. You can see proper greenery, tile floor and sign boards at regular intervals. The whole museum can be covered in 30 minutes. Photography by mobile camera is free, but with professional camera is chargeable. The most disappointing thing I saw here is the lack of toilet facility. Though sign board of toilet was there, but no such toilet was at that place. The staff was also not helpful in this regard.
Its just ok place only.. U can view everything in 30mins. Outside two antique trains were kept for viewing.. Inside photos, real parts used in rail network were kept for knowledge gain.. Train for going around museum was present but not in operation.. They said more than 10people should come for operation which is not good.. They were not interested in operating the train.. Authorities should address this issue.. Kids will have great time in small park present outside museum..Overall : needs lots of improvement
Good

This is a very apt place to trade the growth trajectory of our country and how the Indian Railways has remained the backbone. In display are the different gauges of rails, sleepers used; Vintage stream locomotives, Vintage communication systems, signalling, semaphores, Vintage ticketing systems, badges and what not.The museum also has a toy train that goes around the museum.A very good place to light up the curiosity of little kids.

Foundation stone was laid for the construction of a new building for SIR’s Museum on 3️⃣0️⃣🔹0️⃣6️⃣🔹2️⃣0️⃣1️⃣1️⃣. As per original plan it is two-Souvenir shopy building. The works of construction of the building’s first phase (Ground Floor) was completed and it was inaugurated on 1️⃣8️⃣🔹0️⃣2️⃣🔹2️⃣0️⃣1️⃣4️⃣ by GM/SR. Due to paucity of funds opening of the Museum to visitors could not be undertaken immediately for want of infrastructure facilities. For better display of the indoor exhibits to visitors the preliminary work for improving the infrastructure facilities completed during January 2015 and finally commissioned on 25.02.2015. Now it is the ‘star’ attraction of the passers-by through the route. The Ground floor of the Museum building is 9000 sq.ft. Cost of the Museum Building is 1.35 crores.INDOOR EXHIBITSArrangements for display of about 400 small and medium size artefacts, and about 200 photos in different gallaries became the most challenging job. 40 numbers of 7feet long steel tables have been specially manufactured from Central Workshop / Ponmalai for placing the small and medium size exhibits. Out of these 40 tables 15 were provided with glass boxes and small exhibits are kept in them. Other exhibits in iron materials are kept open on tables. Nine numbers of 7 feet height large wooden show-cases with glass doors on both sides have been specially manufactured for placing the articles. Each of the three halls except the ‘Reception Hall’ has three rows. All the four halls are filled with galleries of exhibits and photographs of all Departments of Railways in a systematic manner i.e., from the origin to the latest material on the field so that the visitor understands the theme behind. The individual exhibits are provided with suitable boards placed nearer to them with its name, history and other details written on them in English language for the easy understanding of the particular object by the visitor. Similarly the photos are written with details.OUT-DOOR EXHIBITSOne MG ‘Inspection Carriage’ RA 9192 - year 1930 built coach- has been placed. One old ‘Fire-Engine’ vehicle (Road vehicle) is kept for display in front of the building. The vehicle is 1931 make “DENNIS BROS” Company Ltd., England. This vehicle is belonging originally to Mysore State Railways. Before it is brought to this Museum it was preserved and maintained by RPSF Training Centre at Tiruchchirappalli. Two NG system ‘Water Columns which were in use during the Steam Locomotives era have been brought from a Depot near Varanasi, and likely to be erected near the ‘Steam Loco’ exhibit which is expected to arrive here in a couple of months. The work of renovation and erection of a few other exhibits for proper display is in progress.
Can visualise the journey of Indian railways through the pictures and particulars displayed in the museum. The toy train which was in working condition still there. If it was repaired and opened for children , will increase attractiveness of the museum. The old loco engine and old motor car are two good things to see in the museum. Maintenance is a weak part of the museum.
Shows the improvements in railways from inception of railways in India. In front of it there is a park which attracts children. Children likes to play in this park
It would be quite interesting if someone explains about the things available in the museum else it is boring to kids. A small decent park is available but not able to use it due to lack of shade too hot most of the trees are cut down. The best part is the train monday is a holiday and better go in week days min 5 members needed for the train trip.
Only Entertainment for kids to enjoy near busstand and railway station.....
Really good. Children s enjoyed lot..
Great work done by Indian Railways.Nice place to visit.Good for kids and oldies.Rail fans must visit here.If you plan for Trichy trip, then plan for this place too.Or simply on wasting time for waiting trains at TPJ station, visit here.
This place is great! but needs some maintenance...
Its a beautiful museum. Located just before the Tiruchirapalli Railway Junction. Its a very small museum. Do not expect much like the New Delhi railway museum. There is a small park at the entrance of the museum. Children can use the swings of the park. There is an entry ticket of ₹5 per head. The museum remains closed in the noon from 1pm to 3 pm. It closes at 7:30 pm.
Must visit place for Rail enthusiasts and everyone.. Better museum like Perambur !!

Trichy Rail MuseumHistoryOn 5th April 1859 foundation stone was laid at (Negapatam) Nagappattinam by the “Great Southern Of India Railway Company” (GSIR) for construction of Railway line in BG system from Nagappattinam to Erode via Tiruchchirappalli. On 15th July 1861 the historic first train in BG system ran between Nagappattinam and Thiruvarur a distance of 14.33 miles (24 kms). The line was further extended to Tiruchchirappalli and a train arrived Tiruchchirappalli for the first time on 11th March 1862. Then the railway line was extended upto Erode in 1868 and connected the Madras - Erode - Shoranur - Beypore line. The GSIR Company succeeded to a new Company known as “South Indian Railway Company.” In the initial stages Nagappattinam remained as the Head Quarters for the SIR for about 20 years. In the year 1865 a “General Office Building” was constructed at Tiruchchirappalli and then it shifted its Head Quarters to Tiruchchirappalli. Mr. William Smith Betts was the first ‘Agent’ (General Manager) of the SIR system and he occupied the superior post for 35 years. During his tenure, the SIR system saw astonishing growth and the route kilometers went upto 1040 miles. Sri. K.R.Ramanujam was the last GM of the SIR.Indoor ExhibitsArrangements for display of about 400 small and medium size artefacts, and about 200 photos in different gallaries became the most challenging job. 40 numbers of 7feet long steel tables have been specially manufactured from Central Workshop / Ponmalai for placing the small and medium size exhibits.
