Barvi Dam is a quick drive from Mumbai City. Though I must admit its not a serene drive. Youre driving through the suburbs pretty much till the last stretch. At the dam, is also a protected bird sanctuary. Quiet, green and wild. There are people but there are lots tiny trails if you want a hike. Explore this place if your first option doesnt work out. Carry food and water.

Barvi dam & forest is a popular destination for people leaving in Thane, Kalyan and surrounding areas specially amongst youngstars for its beautiful scenic views and the water over flowing from the dam during the monsoons.But there is another reason the place is gaining popularity and its the presence of birds.For enthusiastic photographer and bird watcher this place is a paradise with 100s of birds species present both in the surrounding forests and the backwater of the dam.I have visited the forested area behind the dam a number of times and got to see a variety of birds species along with reptiles and insects. The trek to the waters edge both by the long route ( which is comparatively easier) and the tougher short route is amusing. If you keep your patience and tip toe to the waters edge you will find a number of Water birds in the lake.The only issue and a black mark on this area is the presence of trash which irresponsible people leaves behind to dirty the place after a visit.Authorities should take a note of this and control it as mush as possible. This will ensure better traction of crowd and eventually income to many villagers in the surrounding areas in future.All in all a decent place for a half a days time.

Barvi Dam (Lake) is around 60 km from Navi Mumbai. It is a serene place for trekkers, bird watchers and picnic groups. The jungle is dense, so it is not suggestive to move alone. If you’re interested in bird-watching, you must go in the early morning i.e. by 6-8 am.Water flow near the dam approach road is completely clean, if you want to take a bath.Overall, the place is very nice for a one day tour, camping or picnic.

Well the most appropriate time to be here is during monsoons. The place is so blissful that the paths take you INTO nature. Street or vehicle photography can be done best here. But since the roads are open, the vehicles are constantly moving at high speeds. Dam area is restricted to visit. Even though you can go through the woods to the water body.

Great place to spend time with nature and great view of the dam and me and my friends not seen birds but there were sounds and people put trash here and there throwing in nearby little garbage, but great scenes of the nature near the water enjoyed the spot.

One of the best local places to explore in monsoon and winter. Very easy to reach via badlapur one can get a share cab @30-40₹ per person. Pro tip if you want to get close to the lake/river then once you cross the steep road look for green cabins on the right side. Stop by the second cabin and then follow the forest path. Also note it’s a forest area so dnt litter plastic and bottles, as there are no dustbins around. Enjoy the green place and maintain the peace.

You can go to this place via Badlapur - Murbad Road.Honestly, this place is gorgeous and also popular as Bird Watching point.I have visited the places many times, whether it is a monsoon or winter. I have seen Sunrises and Moonrise from the shore of Dam. There is no one to disturb you, no one to trouble you, only sound of Water splashing and Birds sound. Nice spot for group outing. Not much site seeing here. And as for bird watching as many beginners dont know you need to spend a lot time and efforts to observe birds in the open wild as its not a cage that you went there and saw all the birds, you need patience and time and observing equipment.Other than that prefer going in groups as its kind of away from locals and hardly anyone around. Will not recommend to go alone. And road there has curvy turns hard to drive without seeing oncoming vehicles from other direction.

Its a very nice place to spend time with nature and have fun. Please dont make this place dirty by throwing garbage around. One of the best places to visit near Badlapur. No need to go to Matheran and other hill stations. You can get similar experience here. They have also setup some tables so that people can sit and enojoy food with nature. But some of the stupid people have destroyed those benches. Please keep the place as it is or improve by making it clean if you can.
