Homemade tofu, roast chicken and yam basket stood out from the rest. Tofu was soft and meat sauce was just right. Roast chicken was crispy and succulent. One of the better ones I’ve had. Yam basket had the right texture. The rest were so so. Red bean pancake was more chewy than crispy. Chinese pork chop was neither here nor there. I’m still going to come back for more of the good stuff.
Nothing to wow about the location the set up and the service of this restaurant. A typical old school zi char place with some traditional authentic home cook taste. Sweet and sour soup not much ingredient but the taste was good and appetising. Crispy noodle their signature dish the beef was nicely done tender and juicy but I feel the sauce was a little light toss with the noodle it doesn’t add any flavour. Their signature tofu was worth trying. The tofu was very soft top with a mince pork and water chestnut gravy very addictive. The fried tang hoon was blend. The veg was poach then fried with dry shrimp so the veg was abit soft and over cook. We were the first and only table there for lunch the waiting time was still acceptable beside the veg came last when we almost finish the rest of the dish. I can see they have alot of delivery orders I guess during peak hours the waiting are expected to be longer. Parking is also at your own risk beside the main road . Out of 5 dish I only like 2 might go back for their crispy chicken and dessert .
Had dinner here on Saturday night for 3 adults and 1 kid. I find the food and portion to be average as best. Ordered the cereal prawn, green pepper with shredded chicken, cashew nuts chicken and salted vegetable soup. Portions were just about enough but the tasted bland mostly.
Just discover them. Love this type of hidden gem!Good eateries like this, survive for decades through word-of-mouth and loyal customers (no advertising, no instagram). Their yam basket was delightful, so was their home-made beancurd with the water chestnut crunch. I didnt get any MSG attack or felt thirsty after eating here.
We had not been here for over six years as we were staying overseas. The place still looks the same and offers the same zhichar dishes. We wanted the roast chicken, but that was sold out. So we opted for the har cheong chicken, yam ring, crispy noodles and red bean pancake. Each dish was fresh - e.g. the chicken was tasty and did not have freezer burn - and delicious. The pan cake was crispy without being overly oily, while the noodles were great. The yam ring had some plump deshelled prawns and the ingredients were very fresh. The bill for two was $53, which was reasonable. Parking is by the road.
Very quiet place, but food is nice being there twice but still want to go this wednesday.
Like whats raved on newspaper, this place is a hidden gem situated in Arcadia Road. The menu offered is of standard zi char restaurant, but what is different is the taste. In general, dishes are characterized by strong, rich taste (that means salty too) closer to that of Malaysian/Indonesian Chinese cuisine. Food quality is good and service was good. The place is very homey, with limited tables and minimal decor. Few notable dishes include roast chicken, marmite pork ribs, and stir fry black hor fun.
Small restaurant in a nice tranquil neighbourhood. We had salted fish fried rice and fried bee hoon. Both dishes are well cooked and come with wok hei. Portion is small. Overall, good food option if you are in the neighbourhood.
Best crispy chicken in Singapore! Love the tze char here. Pricing is reasonable.
Food is good and affordable. You will need to drive to get here. Flavors were more natural than enhance by msg. Love the food selection.
Love the home style cooking and laid back atmosphere. No regrets going back over and over again. Staff are very responsive and regulars bring the buzz.
Yummy food especially the Horfun ... love the wok hei!
Serving good family dishes - yummyMust go back !
Extremely unpleasant experience. Food was average at best. Crispy noodle, Prawn Paste chicken and Salted Fish fried rice were pretty good. The Pork Ribs were average. The radish egg was a bit too salty, and the Brocoli with Scallops were terrible. The pieces of Brocoli were like mini trees. The chunks were huge and extremly hard. Some pieces of carrot were hard and some were soft. But the reason for the 1 star rating is not solely because of the average food. The waiting time was horrendous, we waited a full hour for our food, and the restaurant was not even full. There were probably about 5-6 groups of people dining there. The attitude of the staff was terrible. About 40 mins after waiting, we asked one of the staff if the food was coming. She did not even walk over to our table to tell us why the wait was so long, she just stood far away and grunted at us. After several dishes were served, there was another long period before we received the last dish. In between, we asked the same staff about the last dish. Likewise she didn’t even bother to explain why the wait was so long, she just answered it was coming soon from far. I was appalled by the attitude of this staff.Another staff later said sorry for the long wait because there was only 1 chef in today. Terrible experience. I would give the food a 3/5, but the service was just absolutely horrendous. If anyone is interested in trying this place, it’s in a super secluded area and from what i saw it looks impossible to access via public transport unless you’re willing to walk a considerable distance.Would also recommend bringing your own mosquito repellent, there were a lot of mosquitoes and i got bit several times even though they set up mosquito coils around.Good Luck to anyone who tries this establishment, i sincerely hope your experience is not as bad as mine.
Restaurant staff are friendly with good service.
This twenty-year-old restaurant has a seating capacity of about 50 with limited free parking space. It is family friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed all the 12 dishes ordered. The heady Wok Hei hits the air whenever a dish was presented. Good food sells itself. No publicity or media marketing needed. Grace the in-charge who recommended us a few lead-in dishes was friendly & flexible. Price was reasonable, honestly. No corkage fee & service charge. Easy decision to return for next family dinner.
Very cosy and good food with reason price
Waste my time, 1h plus waiting for the food. not worth a visit at all!!!!!!!!
Always enjoyable. Tucked away and peaceful. Boss lady has excellent memory. Always welcoming. Home cooked style cuisine.

Variety of local chinese cooked food!
Quiet, peaceful and deep inside Arcadia Road. Lovely food and enjoyed myself here. Loved it! :)
Fantastic zi char at guilt-free prices. Environment is pleasingly homely and quiet too so its really perfect for that family get together.Youll have to drive or cab here though as its pretty inaccessible by public transport.
Delicious food!!!!! What a hidden gem here. However, need a car to get here definitely :)
Friendly staff, restaurant seems spacious mainly because there are rarely any crowds. Tofu dishes there were a highlight for me.
Me and my family had lunch here and it was delicious. The staff was friendly aswell one of the best diners we had in the city.
Very good Chinese food. Traditional and good wok hei.
Good taste
Wonderful old school tze char style!
Great place. Very homely
Authentic traditional Chinese food! Delicious!
Hidden gem this is! Tucked in the Hillcrest Arcadia condo, right next to the guardhouse, this old-school no-frills zi char restaurant serves local crowd favourites and does not disappoint. Tasty food at decent prices, and a choice of alfreso or indoor seating with aircon, what more can one ask for?? Even a simple a dish as fried rice with salted fish is done so well (with full-on wok hei as well!). Parking is available alongside the raintree-lined road in front of the restaurant, just outside the condo entrance.
Go earlier for dinners. Family restaurant style
Tucked away in one corner of Arcadia Road, this must be one of the best Chinese restaurants in Singapore. For those who like Chinese food, this is a must visit.
