We love this place! Great and thoughtful service, kind attitudes and a calm environment go a long way here. The food is really good as well, and vegan and vegetarian options are quite abundant. I look forward to returning, as I am new to Seattle and always looking for great places to eat. Thank you, Sunlight Cafe!
Z was great. Professional and personable. An added bonus to a wonderful meal. Looking forward to our return.
Lovely atmosphere, perfect food served by an awesome staff. 5 stars all around!
Three in our group, with one arriving late. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We sat outside in the patio area, and while the atmosphere was pleasant, it was all cement outside in the patio space (could use some greenery). We noticed folks at a nearby table ordered glasses of mimosa, and so we inquired about ordering a carafe of mimosa for the three of us (carafes were not on the menu); the staff accommodated our request. As for brunch, I ordered the Highlander (vegan) option, and the main entree was super tasty and savory, and the side of potatoes was also great. However, one in our group ordered a different dish and liked the Highlander more than their own dish. Overall, though, we had a great experience and food, the staff was very friendly and welcoming, I would visit again, and would recommend Sunlight to others to try.
Okay so I know that this establishment has been around for a very long time but I am pretty disappointed. I am vegan so I thought it would be good and to be honest, it was not worth it to me. I did not enjoy my meal at all. Please up your game on the vegan options, Sunlight :) I would just hope that if you are serving vegan food, you would want nonvegans to like it too in order to promote the change. Even as a vegan of five years, it wasnt really edible. Hoping you can take this feedback and change up some things so I can be back!
Food was pretty amazing, I’ll give them that. Zero complains about the delicious food. ❤️Took two stars off due to pretty poor service. Had to wait extended periods of time several times to get check, get credit card swiped, get coffee/water refills, get ketchups, etc. It wasn’t that busy so I’m not sure where our server was (nowhere to be seen in restaurant). Not sure if the servers are doubling as cooks or have other tasks? (Would have understood one long delay but this was almost every time we requested something.)Wouldn’t have been a big deal but we only had one afternoon to explore Mt. Rainier before having to travel home, and the delays severely cut into our schedule and really bummed out us. Totally get Covid makes life hectic and Im sure they’re also preparing to go orders, and would definitely come back to give them another chance and for the great food, but only on a day I have extra free time where delays aren’t detrimental.
Absolutely delicious and healthy food, nice atmosphere and great service. Im so glad I discovered this place! Breakfast is amazing, Ill definitely be back.
Nicely lit, high ceiling restaurant with good vegetarian/vegan menu. The staff members were very welcoming and friendly. Their pancakes with blueberries were super fluffy and decadent. Enchiladas with eggs and cheese with a side of house fries were also good, but lacked seasoning. Liked the vibe of the place and the specials keep changing, so will come back to try something new.
Good vegetarian food with happy hour and patio seating. Vegans: note that all cheese is dairy. Service was a little slow at 6pm on a Sunday.
Sunlight Cafe is a wonderful cafe for delicious healthy food. Celebrating 45 years of great good, its worth frequent visits.
I visited Sunlight Cafe while passing through Green Lake with two hungry children. The atmosphere was great, accommodating to the kids but not a super kid friendly restaurant which I thought was great. We had the chips and guacamole, an avocado sandwich, and a bean burrito. All were delicious!
Waitress was great and it’s a nice place, but the food was just decent. Love how a lot of things were organic, but the food presentation was terrible. Almost didn’t want to eat the food at all.
Service is exceptionally slow. Its has taken 37 minutes since the last time our server visited our table for us to receive our food. This does not include the 20 minute wait to get a seat and the 5 minute wait for our server to visit our table the first time. All together weve been here over an hour and only have just finally gotten our grub. Not many vegan options as they are all basically vegan tofu burritos with the same ingredients as every other place.Service: 0 out of 5Cleanliness: 4 out of 5Pricing: 2 out of 5Quality: 4 out of 5
Delicious vegetarian and vegan fare. Nutburger was great.
We had the granola and McKenna plus two Bloody Marys! Everything was wonderful and the staff was friendly.
The staff (Xavier) went above and beyond to make sure our order came out well, eliminating butter for the vegans for example. Really delicious food, especially their potatoes!
I got the huevos picante to go. Nothing special; not particularly flavorful but not bad either. lovely ambiance and adequate service. If you want vegetarian food and dont cook for yourself, youll love this place! If you are compotent in your home kitchen, you can do everything they can do, but better.
Staff was quite aloof, and inattentive... Even though the place was nearly empty. They have a gap between weekend brunch and lunch where theyre open but only serve a small portion of the menu which was confusing - even for the staff trying to tell us what we could and couldnt order.
I had dinner here when visiting University of Washington to see cherry blossom trees. The service was really great; server was friendly and helpful in suggesting great options. Try out the vegan kitchen sink cookie if its available as part of dessert or just take it home.. It really yum and rich in flavor with all kinds of nuts.
No frills, No Sugar, all delicious though.
Absolutely delicious Vegan food. Highly recommend the Vegan Highlander.
Wow, I have been meaning to try this place and Im so glad I finally did! I ordered the Huevos Picante for lunch and the portion size is pretty big, its super flavorful with lots of yummy sauces, toppings, and sides. Staff seems very friendly and fun and I only had to wait 15 minutes for my food. I will definitely be back to try more things on the menu! If youre considering this trying place, DEFINITELY give it a shot, you wont regret it!
Great food, great service, one of my favorite places for breakfast! Highly recommended.
Went here by accident, when we were looking for another restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised by the mistake. I was very happy with the service, and most of all the meal. I took the Tempeh Taco Plate, which was very filling and worth every penny. My Fiance took the Tempeh Burger which was just as good. Atmosphere is nice and quaint. Would definitely return!
First time in today, and will definitely be back. Amazing vegetarian, healthy breakfast/brunch options. Humous wrap and portobello burger made for an amazing lunch with kiddo. Absolutely delicious.
I’m trying to eat more vegetarian, and this spot has helped so much! The meals are delicious (I haven’t had a bad one yet), and the staff is very friendly. What more could you ask for?
A long time favorite place. Love the tahini dressing, and brown rice salad. I want to give 5 stars- generally the food and service is awesome (Ive been going for 20 years!). But two or three times the last year or two, the food wasnt cooked (potatoes undercooked) and service was slow. Today, I was asked to hold for a few minutes, the person seemed stressed. I ordered, they said 25 minutes or so.. So I will leave it at 4 stars, and hoping I get a great meal like so many times before!
Great value, consistent quality, attentive staff, great with dietary accommodations... truly a gem! My favorite two dishes are lemon poppy waffles and huevos picante!
Yes this is a favorite for sure.... I discovered the original when I was in school at the U of W in Seattle ... so we’re going way back ... the new location is around the corner from the Roosevelt location .... this place rocks ... it’s so great and has a real low key great happy hippie vibe...... I rarely order anything but my usual ... sautéed veggie and tihinni ... oh man oh man it’s outstanding.... sometimes I dream of it and that’s probably if I’m out of town ... it’s just perfect... SO ... if you’re local you know if you don’t you should if you’re from out of town you must .....I visit Seattle often and always get my fix .... try it you’ll have sweet dreams.... psEverything is delish ... ☮️💙
Always good food
Delicious vegan delights staffed by people with wonderful energy.
Lovely fresh food! The tacos were spiced perfectly with fresh in house salsa.. tempeh had a nice crisp to it. Very yummy.
Theres something about a hot cup of Yogi tea and the best tahini sauce youll ever have anywhere that can bring me back to that magical time in my life when I was about 26 years old. Now Im 60 years old and I continue to support and frequent sunlight Cafe as much as possible. Everything is so delicious. I finally ordered something other than the brown rice with tahini and the lovely starter salad this morning.Instead I ordered the special three tacos with scrambled eggs and salsa and vegetables and then I first had to lather them with tahini sauce and salsa.Thank you Sunlight Cafe for continuing to be a bright spot in the community 65th and Roosevelt as well as in my life.
You can still eat here outdoors! The food just leaves my body feeling happy.
Sunlight is one of those places that serves comfort vegetarian food! That staff is amazing and friendly. My favorite go to items are the tofu and home fries or the sesame Or lemon poppy seed waffle(extra crispy).Tried the special once! Cheesy Polenta (Tempe, onions, peppers, & tomato sauteed w/ chipotle tomatillo salsa. Topped with sour cream & cilantro.
I love the homemade soups and salads. I often come to Roosevelt area just to have breakfast or lunch here. Great food, great customer service too.
Cozy restaurant with a great array of choices on the menu. All vegetarian and several vegan options as well. They also usually have a great selection of pastries (pie, walnut bread, cookies, brownies, etc.), many of which are gluten free and vegan. Amazing service too!
Service was amazing, the food was fresh and the french toast was incredible!!!
Great vegan and vegetarian fare. Fresh and tasty!
Nice place to have lunch. Thank you!
Some of the best years of my life eating here and being apart of the whole community! Most loving owers in the world! Customers and employees here were like one. They were so close like family. I witnessed customers who grew up going there for 20-30 years and would come in and greet the owner with big hugs! Joe Noon gives the most incredible bear hugs to all the people who work there as well as those who’ve been coming in there forever! I’ve never had such an infectiously energizing and uplifting hugs since the ones from Joe in my life! Everyone was on the greatest natural high who worked here and ate here from all the love spilling over from the amazing couple who started this place! Some of the best years of my life frequenting the Sunlight!
Very good.
Lets start off with the fact I am not vegetarian but still really enjoyed the meal I ate. I tried the sauteed vegetables & tofu and the seasoning that they used was great. It has onions, broccoli, carrots, red cabbage, cauliflower (not a fan of cauliflower but I did at least try it) and organic brown rice. I ate all of it. The atmosphere was relaxed and wasnt very busy when we went in. If asked I would totally come in again.
New location with a open feel. Ive been coming to the Sunlight Cafe since the mid nineties when I was in middle school and the food was always great vegetarian but the service sucked giving rise to a running joke of put down the bong and give me some service!. Im very pleased to report that with the new location where the staff are in an open bar/grill area that joke no longer holds true. The staff was very attentive without being overbearing and the food was as good as always. I very much enjoyed the Sunlight nachos which were filling but light at the same time and my dining companion very much enjoyed the veggie burger. A definite upgrade for this local restaurant, my concern is that with the new location being more off the beaten path and not as highly visible will hurt their business but only time will tell.
Sunlight Cafe is a required stop for any vegetarian (or vegan) passing through North Seattle. Their new location is beautiful and spacious. They are always busy, but never packed. The vegan options are simple in comparison to the likes of places like The Wayward Vegan, but the quality is consistent and the staff is friendly. A solid pick for breakfast. Take a walk around Green Lake afterwards and youve got yourself a pretty pleasant Saturday morning.
Been here a few times. Nice atmosphere. Waffles were excellent, but the Mexican-style dishes were a little heavy on the sauce for my taste. Its a cool little neighborhood, but parking can be a real pain, so try to get there by walking or bus if possible.
I went for my first time today and enjoyed brunch and a mimosa with a friend. I got the vegan Highlander and it was amazing. I couldnt believe how flavorful it was. The veggies were cooked to perfection. The server was very nice as well. I will definitely go back. Great vegetarian and vegan options.
We ended up here just before close (SORRY!) after the original dinner spot didnt work out. The food was delicious! Great spot for the Vegan crowd
Breakfast awesome. Signature, unique waffle with blueberries, bananas, syrup. Just need fresh whip cream, think it was spray in a side dish. Salsa and eggs, excellent. The fried potatoes were specially seasoned which people seem to order side orders. Tasty Vegan makes it enjoyable. Atmosphere, coffee shop, with 80s music, not too loud. Coffee latte needs help. Little bitter and milk not foamy. Overall wonderful. Service, peppy service and quick turn around. Fix the coffee and whip the cream. You have a perfect place.
My first time there I ordered a sauteed mushroom burger with some chickpea soup and omg I died it was amazing! The service was all there and the atmosphere was great. Did I mention the smell when you walked up??? Mmmmmm my stomach was sold before I was!
Popular Ravenna spot and you can tell why- filling, scrumptious breakfast option for vegans/flexitarians and even to bring your meat-eating family.
Went with a new friend who is vegetarian. Me , a carnivore, but enjoyed a wonderful portobello mushroom burger with pesto and mozzarella. It was yummy
Best breakfast burrito ever! My suggestion, order it with both sauces and a mix of potatoes and black beans. Pancakes were equally amazing. Highly recommend. Reasonable prices, quick service.
Nice food in new location. All non meat eaters covered. Vegitarian and vegan.Outdoor seating available. Now on quiet street.
Skip the wait at Portage Bay if youre starving and head to the new space for this long time local vegetarian cafe and restaurant. Waffles, eggs and tofu dot a solid breakfast menu and soup, sandwiches and salad the lunch menu. The food is made with fresh ingredients. Various baked goods and cocktails featured daily. Seating indoors includes bar seating or upstairs and some patio seating available.
Gotta go! So delicious! Nice service! Plenty of indoor and outdoor space. Yum!
The best
Great selection of vegan foods at comparable prices to standard dishes. Very warm in the mornings when sun hits the huge windows. Service is either average or phenomenal, but never bad! Interested to see where they relocate to soon. Highly recommended their breakfast selection!
Consistently delicious food and service, and reasonable prices. If you think vegetarian food isnt beefy enough, you really should stop by this little restaurant, with its interesting menu. Try the delicious, colorful Sunlight nachos or the substantial brown rice salad. So much looks great on this menu that I have a hard time deciding what to get. Street parking always available.
So good, by any standard! Good portion for the price, well cooked healthy ingredients
The food is fantastic! Bright beautiful space and cheery staff. Loved it.
Its your best modern hippie! I liked the old location, but the new digs give me some Portage Bay feels, with the old sunlight popping in.
Average to mediocre service; our waiter completely forgot to put in a kitchen order for one of the entrees we ordered. Food wait time was quite long.Food was overall flavorful, but overpriced given the quality and lack of originality in choice of dishes. Plenty of other more exciting places in Seattle to get top-notch vegetarian and vegan cuisine for a similar cost.Delicious coffee.
Visiting Seattle this place was the best vegitarian breakfast by far. Breakfast was delish, and split a waffle that was unlike any waffle I had had before. Server was very polite and friendly. In any future visit to Seattle I will be sure to go back.
Great food, tea and coffee for vegetarians and vegans. Good atmosphere. Superb staff. They are moving to a new location in a few months. Follow them online.
Bomb food, good people, homey warmth.
Delicious nut burger and salad with lemon tahini dressing. Cant wait to visit again!
I love coming here in the weekends for breakfast. The food is very good (their 7 grains English muffin is amazing with honey). What I like more about the place is how quiet and relax it is. No super crows or noisy atmosphere.
Since 1976 our consistent favorite. My favorite the Sesame seed waffle, veggie delights, and mimosas. New location adds serenity to its character.
This place is my favorite restaurant in Seattle, hands down! Tasty vegetarian food, plenty of vegan options, different specials almost everyday to compliment the solid menus. They make their lemon tahini dressing and hot chocolate sauce in house, and I recommend both highly. Very friendly staff and low turnover, youll see the same great people working between visits.
Great sweet and savory vegan and vegetarian choices. Very flexible re. substitutions. Good service in a nice bright space.
Best original homestyle menu in town. The staff has a family vibe. Excellent food and espresso.
I have enjoyed dinning at the sunlight for 20 years. They serve classic hearty vegetarian fare. Best salads and dressings on the planet. Check out the weekend brunch and be sure to try the lemon tahini dressing. (Almost) Everything is scratch made in house. And they dont use refined sugar! This is truly my favorite restaurant.
Excellent for veggie and vegan. The chai is a small miracle. The brunch menu is fantastic. Try the french toast. Its Its so wholesome!
Best tempeh around...so flavorful. Their enchiladas are great, too. Open for breakfast as well!
Amazing. This place has the best tofu Ive ever had. Their food was perfectly seasoned. Yum. Great breakfast, for a vegan or just vegetarian.
Best green salad ever...love their tahini salad dressing, and the wait staff are always so kind.
Though no longer in the practically historic former location on Roosevelt (bye, bye wonderful old Seattle, hello Sea Francisco), the food is still tasty and evocative of another pachoulier era.
Ive eaten here most of my life, the food is amazing and good for you. The consistency in recipe is impeccable, the waffles taste just like they did when I was 6. For quality vegetarian food in Seattle the prices are very reasonable. My favorite savory dish is the risotto rice over salad.
The oldest vegetarian restaurant in Seattle. Delicious food. Love that they offer tempeh a protein option. Yummy smoothies. Local art on the walls. Everything Ive had has been wonderful.
Service is good. Nice interior. But the food could use some work. It is healthy but they really need to work on their seasoning and prep work. Tempeh was dry. Seasoning was barely there. I would suggest they marinate their tempeh and spice things better. The rice, beans, guacamole, etc could all be much better seasoned.
Sunlight has amazing vegetarian and vegan options, the food here is so delicious! I recommend the lemon poppy seed waffles with blueberries for breakfast, they were perfect with tons of blueberries and didn’t leave me feeling gross and overstuffed afterwards, also try their seasonal fruit smoothies 🤤If your having dinner I highly recommend the Tempeh Taco Plate! This place has a tropical funky 80s vibe to it, servers are very helpful and friendly 😊
My go-to for breakfast and fleetwood. Best huevos rancheros and orange juice for ya belly and soul! 10/10
Very good vegetarian menu, plenty of choices!
Ive been eating at Sunlight Cafe for about 20. Food is consistently good and menu hasnt changed much. Wait staff varies considerably, but they are always friendly. Always a good recommendation for vegetarian food!
Delicious quality food been going for years and never disappointed
Very tasty waffles! And unfortunately finding themselves in a moving process apparently been open since 1970s ,Seattle vintage vegetarian cafes in the North end, quite colorful... Good foods.
Always good. The new location is very close and a definite upgrade. They now have beers on tap! A Seattle favorite for sure!
Tasty breakfast menu, juice, coffee, all that.
Love the new location. Same great food. Lots of windows, nice open space
