One of our favorite dosa places in the area for decades. Amazing throughput. Tasty fare. Love their Saturday mini tiffin combo for when I don’t want to decide between the many flavorful options.Just don’t move the tables - they are an*l about tables and posting redundant signage on the walls.

The food was good and to the point. The onion rave dosa was delicious and I would recommend. The chole puri were fine but the chole werent done how they are typically done with puri.Very weird that they charge you 50c/box if you want to take leftover food to go.Loved the namkeens they had on display. Highly recommend getting those. We cherished ours for days

Next to the renowned Ganesh Hindu Temple, in the heart of Flushing, in the borough of Queens is the best South Indian food on the east coast.. my favorite South Indian food this side of the subcontinent. The authentic flavors with perfect spice levels are present in each item on the menu, with heaping portions. This may be the only menu where you can’t go wrong with any order. Make sure to pick up an authentic filter coffee after your meal along with ‘the mixture’.

Really nice, authentic, homely food at very affordable prices. You cannot make profit at these prices but still the staff maintained such high level of quality that it felt like I was back at my home in India. Really great staff as well.If you like low spices then this place is an additional bonus for you.Would highly recommend this place just for the prices.

As some reviewers have mentioned, the Temple Canteen is a hidden gem. It is part of the Sri Maha Vallabha Ganapati Devasthanam. It has always been managed with care and great attention to detail. The food is South Indian vegetarian fare, with an emphasis in dosas, prepared in the best possible way. Authentic and satisfying. They also carry namkins, sweets and chutneys, as well as rasam and sambar powders. Highly recommended. While visiting, do not forget to check the small but very interesting Temple bookstore.

Food is very tasty no doubt. But hygiene should be maintained esp in this pandemic scenario. Recently visited canteen on last sunday (07/18) where i could see the trays that they use to serve food plates being used to push or press the food garbage by the cleaning lady. Same tray was just wiped with towel and washed with only water no soaps and being reused to serve people. Some foods like Dosa and all sure touching the trays so it would be better if they keep any paper sheets on top of tray or washing trays too with soaps will avoid such unhygienic.

Ive never been here, so Im leaving 3 stars, which is in the middle. Just wanted to ask those whove been here and such. Does anyone else not find it strange for a Mandir (Hindu temple) to be selling food to the public? I have no problem with them PROVIDING food for the public, but the selling of food from a Mandir seems wrong to me, no? Even Laxmi would find this strange...

The food here is amazing and made with the home cooked style by ladies. The quality and taste both are good with reasonable pricing. There are other spices and snacks available for sale too. Such as chakli, sambar powder, sweets, etc. This place small but serves very nice authentic South Indian food. Their specialties are Dosas, Lunches and combo options. Their filter coffee is must to have after you finish the meal. The medu and idli combo is also awesome. they offer many variants of rice specialties, dosas and many more. The prices is bit high but one can compromise it if you want to have authentic food in New york city. The place is located in uptown area.

If you like South Indian vegetarian food (or even just curious about it) you should definitely check it out. The food is relatively inexpensive and tastes great. While most of the people at the canteen probably came in after a visit to the temple, youll see a number of people come there just for the food.Weekends (around lunch) can be pretty crowded and it can hard to find a place to sit.Dishes you should definitely try are Pongal and Paneer Butter Masala Dosa.(spicy!)

This place serves good quality dosa at low prices given that it is associated with the temple and thus probably does not make a profit. The quality of the food is good, however the Mango Lassi is not fresh and is kept in a fridge and tastes a bit stale but given the price it is all very good.

Review №42

Delicious South Indian food at reasonable prices. Very clean for Indian standards. I would have given 5 stars but parking is very tough and to get to the restaurant you need to go into the basement, (several sets of steps and walkways to the counter to order food) of the temple. I have added a photo of the menu with prices. The service is generally good and fast but during evenings on the weekends, the wait could be up 30 minutes or more. The Madras coffee was horrible (at least on 5/14/17 @830 pm- may be the coffee mix was getting too old) Masala tea was ok.

Review №43

You have to go down the stairs into the basement to the cafiteria. As you enter the basement a gaint statue of Ganish welcomes you and the gift shop is on your right. The temple canteen probably has the best south Indian food in NYC. The menu includes all the south Indian specialities like Sosa, utppma, and vada. Most dishes are served samber and vegtable soup. I love the onion dosa with extra samber. The items are extremely cheap. Most items are less than $7. You can fet a great meal with desert for under $10. I highly recommend masala dosa with a cold cup of lasi. They do accept credit card on orders over $10. There is no table service and the lines get very long on the weekends. The food does not travel well and it doesnt taste as good if you reheat it so its recommended that you eat in the canteen. This a hidden gem, I highly recommend it.

I took my son on a Flushing Food Tour, figures itd be one of the hottest most humid days of July. He didnt want to leave Flushing without getting Dosa at this Temple Canteen. A slow sweaty walk. The sign inside the door says its only open on weekends. I was feeling beat and defeated but I heard some chatter down below and decided to take a peek. Turns out it was open. Very friendly people and my son was quite satisfied with his Ghee Roast Dosa. Next time well come back with more people and order a bunch of different dosa so we can taste all kinds! Oh and this made me VERY happy, their restrooms are tidy and clean (thank you!).

The canteen at the Hindu Temple Society of North America is an interesting place to visit for lunch. The dosa itself was crispy and delicious, filling is tasty too. The coconut chutney was starchy and not flavorful and the mango lassi tasted like canned mango and wasnt very appealing. Far from the worst or my favorite for dosa. The staff was not particularly friendly or gracious. They have a sign behind the counter that says refund policy is no refunds. Not that I was considering asking for a refund but I think the sign sums up how they feel about their customers.
