An absolute gem, if youve got a an inquisitive, introspective personality. The museum was empty when I arrived and I thoroughly enjoyed having the whole place to myself, simply because the building and dioramas transport you back to an earlier time. Added bonus if youre actually interested in silk, textiles, and seashells.

The museum was completely empty so I had the whole place just for me, the the entrance is 5 GEL, less than 2 Euros for adults. its a very old building, is a bit dark inside and actually seems kinda Soviet atmosphere haha. They have a lot of stuff related to the silk production and history. If you like these things you can spend 1h there. I guess is enough to see everything, the museum is 2 floors but they have silk exhibition only in the 2nd one in just one big room.

It clearly has seen better days but it explains the silk process and different weaving and production methods. Also a gorgeous neglected building.

Very interesting exhibits, but the place is shabby, and only a few items have English titles. The guide was knowledgeable but not very articulate, and there are no written explanations. This is more like a scientific collection than a museum. The price of admission is low (3 Lari), so it is still worth a visit, but I recommend reading about sericulture before coming here.

Of the large-scale buildings erected in Tbilisi in the latter half of the 19th century, the complex of the Caucasian Silk Station was certainly one of the most important. The Caucasian Silk Station was founded in 1887 under the leadership of the renowned naturalist, Nikolay Shavrov. It was with his direct engagement that the complex was built during 1890-1892 at the end of Mikhail Street, what is now Davit Aghmashenebeli Avenue, within the Mushtaid Gardens.

It is the oldest museum. Here you can see different silkwarms and different silk products from around the world. There is friendly stuff and they are ready to help you and give you as many information as possible. It is good place for photographers to take vintage style pics.

I can absolutely recommend this museum. Its more interesting than you actually expect it to be. There was also a museum for shellfish. The house itself is worth a visit. Nice old architecture. Kind staff, moderate prices for tickets. Ill come again with friends.

The coral was very colourful. Very interesting exhibits. Maybe a few more English words to help describe the exhibits, like most other museums In Tiblisi. The building was under maintained, so the building could also be better maintained. Overall okay.

Impressions from visiting the museum are twofold: on the one hand, this is a special place, there are few such museums, it is extremely interesting to visit it, on the other hand, the state and development of a beautiful museum at such a level that it is sad to watch. The museum building is dilapidated, this, of course, has its own charm, but nevertheless, the authorities show indifference to the fate of this place, directly screaming under-financing. Secondly, for the convenience of visitors, little has been done. The museum has no brochures, prospectuses and any other materials for visitors. At the time of my visit there was no guide (for good reason for his participation in a conference, but still), there were not even printed tickets. Well, thats not the case. I sincerely wish the Tbilisi authorities to pay attention to the museum, repair this small two-story house and print out tickets and elementary leaflets with the museums plan for visitors. This museum deserves better, deserves greater popularity because of its unusualness, deserves a visit to tourists.

This place will definitely please you if you like small museums with non-banal collections! Samples, interiors and exhibits perfectly demonstrate not only the entire process of silk production, but the spirit of the times. This is not only a museum about silk, but also a museum about private museums of the pre-revolutionary time, because, apparently, the interior and shop windows have not changed much, many signatures of exhibits of a hundred years ago in Russian have been preserved. I definitely recommend taking a guide, it’s always more interesting with them, and so you’ll figure out whats what. Or at least read about the museum and the collection on the website, because there are really few signatures, and the topic is specific.
