Zero mile stone is good place for educational visit. The place from where the distance of Pune city is measured from other destinations. History is mentioned. Need to give more scientific description about the measurement process. Parking is difficult since it is in busy area.

The immense work done by the surveyors needed some appreciation & almost none of us knew about the great work done by these people. So in a way, this project not only appreciates their work but also reminds people of their contribution to the society.So overall, the aura of that place amidst the huge banyan trees, which was enhancing the character of that space!Must visit place when in Pune!

This should be a must visit spot in Pune city. This is the place from where the distance between Pune and other cities are measured. Lot of information is there about land surveyors. Very well restoration work done by PMC. If you need parking space, go around the GPO and you will find some.

One in pune must see and know this spot to recommend. Its a 5-10minute worth location with unexpected do you know! Spot. I couldnt find this location hardly in any sites saying places to visit in pune. Its a sidewalk with benches and shades. Didnt find it crowded though.

This done has a lot of significance.Zero stone means, all the distance from Pune to all other cities are calculated from this stone ( generally at the gpo of the city)

It was a sixty year long work rightly called as the Great Indian Trigonometrical Survey. In this work British team along with Indian team actually walked much of India from east to west coast & from Southern point to Himalayas. They measured the size & height of much of Indias topography, battled the inhuman weather, faced many ailments but completed the work.In Pune, you will find General Post office of Pune exactly behind the zero stone. You will also find the images of people who led the work and information stones on erected to display their contribution to this great work.Not just kids but even adults should visit the place to know the positive side of British Raj.

Really awesome place, related to trigonometric survey of India.Zero Stone in Pune city is perhaps the smallest monument of historic significance. The installation can be spotted on the footpath positioned close to the boundary wall of the General Post Office (GPO).

The point that marks the exact geographical location of the city. The Zero Stone in the city has names of places such as Poona, Paud, Sinhagad, Alandi, Purandhar, Nashik, Ahmadnagar, Sholapur and even Bangalore engraved on them.

Zero Mile Stone has it own little history. You can check it out in the images below. Few years back it was not in a good condition but now the officials have renovated the place and opened for public view to get to know about its history.Must Visit when in Pune!

What is the height above sea level of the peak of Mount Everest? To establish its height, one would have to know the elevation above sea level of a reference point. And to have a reference point close to the Himalayas, one would have to have a network of points all the way to the sea coast. Zero stone is a beautiful display reminding us of a super human effort of mapping the entire Indian subcontinent on foot in the 1800s by the Survey of India then headed by English diplomats. But many Indians were part of the project and made many significant contributions. Zero mile was the precise location of Pune in the Great Trigonometric Survey. And many such zero miles were established across the subcontinent from Kanyakumari to the Himalayas.If you happen to walk past Head Post Office, stop at the memorial to read some trivia related to the Trigonometric Survey.
