Not well maintained. Its polluted area. I think birds may think of not coming here. Usually u spot birds early morning 6 to 7 am. Advise do not go alone, go in groups. Its just a safety precaution to avoid any thing wrong.Carry water along with. Metro construction is in progress within sanctuary. The entrance to this sanctuary is through main road , opposite Gunjan talkies.I do not found it too interesting.

One of the best bird watching points within the city. You can spot birds and butterflies of at least 20 types very easily.Though due to lack of awareness and the construction work for metro/ road broadening many trees have been cut. It is believed that post completion of the activities a lot of it will be affected.Covered in detail on my blog about it

There is no sanctuary or it is closed. It is a wasteland dumping ground now. Dont plan about coming here. I dont think they have maintained it during pandemic times, and hence it has shut down.

Couldnt find much birds although I went in November early morning. Maybe my luck was bad. Good place overall. Nice place to spend time with your loved ones away from the city noise.

Brilliant spot for Bird watching and study of Biodiversity.I hope the rapid road and metro construction being done without proper impact study and greed of builders doesnt destroy this little known gift of nature to Pune.

Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is a unique biodiverse preserve. Located in the heart of the ever expanding Pune city, the preserve (and not a reserve unfortunately as the forest department never took possession of this wonderful patch of green which is lush with trees and sixty plus species of birds identified by yours truly. The land is under the PMC and has unfortunately come under development/ construction plans although portions of this green patch of land also come within the red lines and blue lines of the river which mark the flood lines and maximum water levels in hundred years.) stretches from the Yerwada bridge (Unmarked entrance is from the crematorium, alongside which unfortunately also happens to be the Pune Municipality waste collection/redistribution/dumping centre.) along the Mula-Mutha River and up to the Agakhan Bridge.Citizens of Kalyani Nagar, SwachhBharat, Nature lovers and also wildlife & birding enthusiasts have taken up the cause to stop any further damage to the river region.Talking more about the park, Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary has many native bird species as well as migratory bird species. (Dr. Erach Bharucha who is the director of the Bharati Vidhyapeeth Institute of Environment Education and Research, also the first visitors to the sanctuary along with Dr. Salim Ali some 35 years has some piece of history to offer stating that long time back the river was a fishermans delight and as per traditional fishing methods, they had created small dams all along this patch of the river there by reducing water flow and trapping the many species of fish in the river which was a home to them then, unlike today where the river, a story in itself, is near dead with bubbling and stinking water due to mix with untreated sewage, spread of hyacinth, which also is another water indicator of accumulated filth, has managed to still support life. Saving the river is also a must.) The river patch being shallow, attracts many waders and other aquatic bird species such as herons, storks, ducks and Ibis who find easy bait in fish.As a first step the sanctuary needs to survive, the river needs to heal, and with this the city will breathe healthier leading to a positive change in habitat and coexistence with the amazing bird species and other living organisms.Come visit and live the glory that is also living history of the times fast disappearing, where jungles are replaced by concrete jungles.#AdilScribbles #SaveCity #SaveSalimAli_BirdSanctuary_Pune #SwachhBharat
