Located on the main road easily accessible in the corner. Parking space is aplenty. Museum has wide variety of collections but limited exhibits under each category. Most of the artifacts are from pre independence era. Maintenance is not proper. Less footfall even during the weekends. They have models and portraits related to Pune region showcasing the areas development post independence. Entrance will have a huge crocodile skin extracted in 1870. Needs improvement.

Mahatma Phule Museum is a museum located in Pune, a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra.[1] It was founded in 1890 and was then called the Poona Industrial Museum, and subsequently it was named Lord Reay Museum. In 1968 it was renamed as Mahatma Phule MuseumTOI news story quotes the present administrator of the museum Rajeev Vilekar thus: Gharpure was curator at the museum from 1930-1954. His contributions to the museum have been immense... one of the halls here has his name in his honour.[2] A Toledo Blade news story reports the visit to Toledo in March 1948, of B.V. Gharpure, curator of what it calls Lord Reay Maharashtra Industrial Museum, Bombay. The story quotes Gharpure stating that the purpose of the museum is teaching an unschooled population in modern methods of agriculture, engineering and science. It reports that the Gharpure was on a year-long international tour that would also take him to Russia and Germany.

This is a small museum which is located on ground floor, nothing really historical or any unique item present in this museum, if you have visited museum around the globe you will disappointed with the state of building and items on display.Although Pune was the capital of Maratha Empire and has produced leaders like Phules, Tilaks etc but there isnt a single museum in city which shows this rich history.Request PMC to convert this museum into world class museum as Pune is Oxford of East and lot of foreign students visit our city and also we have many IT companies and alot of foreign client visit Pune and we need to show our legacy to the world.

Small museum located in heart of city.Easy to find, with couple of additional places to visit nearby, this could be helpful for parents for a days out.The museum is considerably old and with little government funding and no additional point of attraction added since the time of freedom, one can expect little as compared to scientific museums next generation kids would prefer to visit. But if you want appreciate the old timer creativity, drop by any time.

The Mahatma Phule Vastu Sangrahalaya was first established in 1890 as the Poona Industrial Museum. Later, it was renamed to Lord Reay Museum, before being called Mahatma Phule Museum in 1968. Though Mahatma Jyotiba Phule was a great Indian social reformer who worked extensively for the anti-caste movement and womens emancipation, the museum does not have anything to do with him. It displays models, charts, pictures, machines, and taxidermy of various wildlife species. It broadly covers the disciplines of forestry, agriculture, natural history, armoury, handicraft, geology, engineering, industries, and architecture in Indian history. While the armoury belongs to the Mughal and Maratha periods, the taxidermy section covers a vast expanse of evolution in Indian species of animals, reptiles, and birds. Several hydro-electric and irrigation projects, in addition to models of architectural marvels like the Taj Mahal, have also been displayed. The museum has a library, though it is not accessible to the public. If youre a museum lover and history aficionado like me, this is the place I would highly recommend you visit and recall history classes. Mahatma Phule Museum is a treat to see all the Statues, paintings, jewelry, architecture, and many more things from different eras in our nation which is so culturally rich and has centuries of history. The museum is well-maintained, has ample parking space and good security. Photography inside the museum premises is not allowed, however, I was given prior permission from the PMC authorities. The Entry Fees is 10 rupees per person and the Visiting Hours are from 09:00 a.m. - 05:00 p.m. The museum is closed on Wednesdays and Public holidays. To sum up, I would highly recommend visiting this gorgeous museum in the heart of Pune. The works of art are definitely a must-see and I’m sure it is worth a visit especially for children, who can have fun by learning about the history of India.

1. I have visited this place as a student in 1994, and it was well maintained and a well kept place. Now when I visited it again today in 2018, it feels as if a back closet of Mayor of Pune. He has used cupboards here to discard and display mementos which are of no significant historic or museum value.2. The way maintenance is being done is deteriorating the value of exhibits placed here. E.g. the Elephant skull is placed really pathetically. And the exhibit cupboards when painted, the items were not removed and have gotten paint stains. Very unprofessional.3. No professional curator is posted and neither being consulted for upkeep of the exhibits which is eminent the way standards have gone down.4. The way employees of the museum speak or treat the visitors is really shocking and unimaginable, as there is basic lack of courtesy and false sense of unassigned authority by them.5. Most exhibits are donated by eminent personalities of pre-indepence era, and are really Ill treated. Paintings and posters do have historic and monetary value which needs to be understood. So it is highly recommended that someone might take it up in good sense and either post someone with credible knowledge of history and historical items or teach the poorly qualified staff about it.Shockingly saddened by the poor state of affairs here.

Stellar collection. Youd never know its size from the street. Jam-packed - plan on lots of time, especially if you know something about local history. One key place this museum could improve is in the lack of interpretive information. I got a lot out of it because I was there with a local friend who was extremely well-informed. But on your own, its just a large collection of beautiful objects. Maybe a rental audio guide, more plaques, etc. Maybe even an identifiable docent on each floor? Really do take the time. This museum is not so well maintained. The entry ticket is cheap at INR 10 per person. But the artifacts on display here would be thoroughly enjoyed by school children specially. I found this place very fascinating even as an adult. This place contains a large variety of items on display - animals, birds, insects, modals of industrial processes, handicrafts, rocks, etc. I could easily relate most of the items back to the topics we studied in school days. Hence, I believe that as growing up, children from local schools must be brought here as seeing things before them would really help them to enjoy their course at school and learn better.
