Super busy location. Purchase a spot at your own risk. There weren’t photos of our site posted online, and it was advertised to be able to fit a RV. Well, first of all the the dirt road leading up to it was washed out and in terrible shape for a good 5-7 miles. The road at/around the campsite was one of the worst I’ve seen, and also washed out. Secondly, spot #24/25 - I would avoid, They’re on a sharp curve and both heavily washed out. We didn’t attempt at night and drove all the way back home. All of the campsites seemed crammed in right on top of each other with little privacy between spots, and it’s pretty loud- someone had their bass going from 1am-3am. The campsite hosts ghosted us when we tried to knock on the door to see if we could switch spots. Not sure I’d come back, there’s too many other better sites out there!

Ok, came in late Thursday; Labor Day weekend and haven’t seen the rest of the camp yet but the site is at a HORRIBLE location if you want peace and quiet. It’s right on the highway so you hear 18 wheelers (using engine their break) ALL NIGHT LONG. Thought camping was about seeing and hearing nature. Got 3 nights here and not sure when I’m going sleep. I would avoid!

Nice campground, really good and diligent but hands-off hosts. Very deserted considering all the reservation placards posted. Only problem was the sound of a large animal stalking around our tent for half an hour around dawn on our first night. Thought i dreamt it but the missus heard it too. Kinda unnerving, but ultimately harmless. Maybe come strapped? I dunno, its your life.

We intended on grabbing one of the more dispersed sites along 550, but on Friday at noon every site was taken. It was May 7th so I thought that early in the season we would be fine getting a site… So we rolled down the road a bit and checked out Buffalo Creek. Most sites were available. Since there were two families, we picked sites 4 & 5. They are on the outer edge of the sites. The sites were spacious, spotless, and perfect for our families. I believe it may be a reservation area later in the season, but it was FCFS when we were there.I have to say, I wound up not regretting missing out on the other dispersed campsites at all. The sites were clean, firepits clean and swept, bathrooms were the cleanest I have ever seen. We met the camp hosts who were friendly without being intrusive. They stopped by once to ask if everything was OK, which we appreciated.I’ve done a lot of camping over the years, and this campground, due to the care of the hosts was just about the best I have seen.

Gets pretty busy during the weekends. Inner loop are the fist come first serve site with about 5 that can accommodate trailers or rvs. Camp host was a bit to inquisitive and pushy. Reminded you every 30-45 mins when he drove by that he sells firewood and bottled water at the host site. Creek isnonly a short walk away and nice to cool off in on a hot day. On the weekends people drive a rad too fast trykng to get or find a site so pay more attentiin to your kids when they are riding their bikes.Site 38 was the best site with enough space for our trailer and parking. Close enough to the vaulted toilets and dumpster but far enough away that you dont smell anything. Limited services and goods about a thirty 30 min drive away on rough dirt roads so pack enough water and food.

A very nice place to camp with many trails all around the area. Dispersed camping is always a blast but this place was a very organized and clean campground.

Wonderful camping close to front range and Denver metro. Great hiking and mountain biking. Campground is well laid out and maintained. However, it can get very hot, so hot summer days head to higher elevation camping.

If you are thinking of paying for camping here, DO NOT!!!We were immediately greeted by the camp host. He had warned us of our trash, food ect. with the bears that come around. We had failed to put our trash away the first night. As soon as we woke the host was there to tell us that we put the whole campsite in danger, we put the bears in danger and that if we had another issue wed be evicted. We felt terrible. Then DOW (Department of Wildlife) had to come in and SET A BEAR TRAP for these 2 bears that were coming around the campsite.WAIT. WHAT??? THEY SET A BEAR TRAP IN A FULL CAMPGROUND. BUT WE PUT OTHERS IN DANGER?!!!! Also, the free campsites mainly leave their trash hanging in the trees. How are you about to evict 2 campers, WHO PAID FOR CAMPING...... when there are the free campsites (camp host does NOT have authority to patrol free camp sites) who are probably attracting bears too.We had such a stressful camping trip mainly because of the camp hosts.Dont pay to stay here. Go to a free site so you are not harassed or threatened to be evicted from a campsite you paid for. Take advantage of the free camping and camp in piece. Its definitely beautiful and peaceful place!!!!

Definitely have to get there early or reserve a spot ahead of time. Because of the fire ban they are monitoring more closely. The bathrooms were the cleanest ive seen at a camp ground.

Clean & adequate. Basically paying $22 for a convenient spot & a latrine. There’s lots of dispersed camping spots along the road to the east but they were all pretty full too. Arrived around 5pm on a Saturday in August. Pulled up to the host; they told us to go look to see if there was a spot or not as they didn’t know. The available spots were reserved but the people never showed so got one. Place was very full & noisy. Music going til late. People shortcutting to the latrine by walking right by our tent. It worked for our last minute biking trip, but I wouldn’t go back to this campground unless it’s real empty. We will, however, be back to bike. Loved the trails!

I wouldnt bother with the campground, there are about 40 dispersed (free!) campsites on the road that are much more enjoyable. Theyre really spread out and very large, perfect for groups. Spent about 4 days here and loved it. Lot of trails and very quiet. Wellington lake is also close by and a beautiful site to see, however there is a fee.

Very nice for an established campground. We typically prefer dispersed camping, but tried this out and would go back. The water pump is not working but we saw this on the website and brought our own (Summer 2017). The pit toilets were clean and the sites were spacious.

Campground is fine if you can survive the washboard road getting in. Definitely go through pine, its infinitely better that way. Never once saw the host which is a plus in my book. Sites were clean, but so many flies everywhere. It was so bad my dog kept trying to go in the camper to get away from them. Ill probably not go back, but it wasnt the worst place.

This place has a life time of great times and good memories. I do not camp in the camp ground any longer. There are just to many people. It is a very popular place. It is also an awesome place for kids. The dispersed camping is better and farther away from other people, but a lot harder to find a spot that is not already full. The dispersed camping spots have been regulated, and there are far fewer spots than in years past. There is a lot to do, hiking, biking, fishing with your choice of creek or lake fishing. There is a near by hill mountain what ever, that is fun to climb. Tons of rock climbing. Near to the campground is a part of the creek wear families like play in the water.

This place isnt camping. Its more like a hostel. Ill reiterate my expience with a review from 5 years ago. Some of the most inconsiderate people congregate here and it wasnt the families with kids. Adults here seem to bring all their personal trash with them instead of escaping to a beautiful scenery. Aside from the close cam sights youd see at state parks, the trees help to make this feel like youre still in the woods, but the shear number of sites (some 30 or so) can make it feel a bit to close. The camp hosts are great at helping to find a spot but the enforcement of any normal rules or regulations makes it a bit bitter sweet. During our stay we had someone go off on a rant loudly while it was dark near the host station, without any action taken. This situation warented a visit from the sheriff, but with no cell service, the only way this would be expected to happen is from the local hosts. But this never happened...which makes you wonder how safe this place is. With all the families and people here, youd think its safe but if some form of law enforcement doesnt show up for domestic disturbances like this then what else would they not show up for?

My husband and I picked this place as a last minute campground selection for Independence day eve. I like the free sites for camping. We were able to share a site with two neighbors with plenty of space to have our own privacy. The neighbors were of course a little noisy so we did a little exploring and camped near a ridge which gave us a majestic view of the valley. We even may have spotted some ufos hovering around the area around 2am. We definitely will go back and do some more exploring.

Love, love, love this campground! You cant beat free. It blows me away that all 32 of these sites are free. They get busy on the weekend, but thats because theyre such great campsites. Theyre also right on top of some of the best mountain biking in the front range. If youre a camper who also rides, this place isca no-brainer.

Nice campground but the camp sites are very close to one another and the noise factor on the weekends is horrible. A cacophony of car alarms, crappy FM music blaring music from equally crappy Chevy pickup trucks as well as the obligatory drunk and/or stoned loosers belly laughing into the wee hours of the morning are to be expected on weekends. Why do these folks bother to come to the mountains? Beats me. Its sure not for the peace and quiet. Too bad they ruin the experience for everyone else. We only lasted one sleepless night and wont be returning. There are some primitive campsites along the road on the way to the campground (some of which are really lovely) that will allow you to avoid the nonsense. The private campground on Wellington Lake is the better bet if youre ok with the $20-30 per night fee.

The campground and facilities itself were fine; the area is beautiful and the hosts sell bundles of wood. However, I have never in my life come across such a high concentration of incredibly rude and inconsiderate people in my life. I understand when camping at a campground you are going to hear your neighbors. Thats not what happened here. Children *screaming* just to scream at 6 am is not ok, even when camping. Walking directly through someones campsite and setting off their dogs barking, just because youre too lazy to use the designated paths to get to the latrine, is not ok. Walking your dog so close to someone elses tent that the dog gets tangled up in the tents rain fly is not ok. Allowing your dog to pee right next to someone elses tent is definitely not okay. All of these things happened multiple times through the weekend and prevented anyone in my group from getting a significant amount of sleep.Everyone in my group agreed that we would never be back to that particular campground, however there are some designated camping sites along 550 that looked amazing. Well be back for those. Im sure the camp site is fine if its nearly empty, but the hosts need to more strictly enforce the quite hours, and people need to re-educate themselves on proper camping etiquette.
