Shivas Gajan and Chaitra SankrantiShivas chanting started in our village Nemo from today. However, it is needless to say that this time Nemo Gajan will not be completed with more pomp like other times due to Corona problem. So lets reminisce about Gajan today - the accompanying pictures are also quite old.Gajan-e is the biggest festival in our village - from the pomp and bustle to the busyness of peoples homes. Throughout the last four days of the year, these gajans - Maha Habishya, Fruit, Blue and Sankranti. And two days before Maha Habishya, ‘Kaman’ is gone - meaning to go to the Ganges ghat and do shaving. Towards us as Tribeni popular Ganga Ghat. From Nemo by train to Mogra - and from there by trekker / bus to Tribeni - it has been going on for a long time. Once you have shaved, you have technically become a monk of Shiva - you can no longer sleep at home. From the day you come back from Ganga Ghat, you start sleeping at night in the courtyard of Shiva temple. The next day of Sankranti (meaning holy Boishakh) after bathing in the pond and returning home after immersing in the paite.Last time, due to Corona, nothing happened at all, there was a lockdown. It was just said that there should be two monks in a team - this is the rule, which is called blue and blue. So last time there was no electricity in Gajan for four days and two nights due to huge storms, etc. Meanwhile, the generator was not rented as there was no grand festival. As a result, the two monks, Bittu and Uday Ghutaghuti were lying in the dark on the Shivtala in the scorching heat and were bitten by huge mosquitoes. The two were swearing so much at Shivduar after being bitten by a mosquito that the swearing could be heard far away for silence at night. One of the elders could not stay or came to say, You are becoming a monk and sitting at the door of Thakur so badly, what if you do not have a bad face for four days! One of them replied, Then you uncle sit next to us and chase the mosquitoes with your hand fan - we sleep a little better. Besides, if you do this, you will also have virtue ”. Another said, Uncle, dont come to give wisdom at night - if you can, teach the mosquitoes not to bite Shivas children for four days!Although Nemos Gajan was popular, it once became very popular. The main reason for its popularity is that not all villages have gajan. Since Durga Pujo is performed in all villages and places, no one comes to the village except our house. There were only two Durga Pujos in Nemo (a few years ago another pujo was started on GT Road near Nemo Battala) - one on Barwari floor and one in our house, meaning Ghoshs house. So during Durgapujo, even though our house was crowded, there was no guest effect in the whole village. As a result, the in-flux of some family is in this Shivas gajan. In the main center of the village there are several temples with baroari floors. Of these, there are four Shiva temples with three more variants of Shiva, including the main temple of old Shiva. A Durga Thakurs shed - and a Manasa and Rakshakali. Understandably, Shiva is the predominant one, so we used to call the village baroari tala as Shivtala. As far as I can see the temple of Shiva, the pucca house was cast, but the attic in front of it was not cast. Although the floor was paved, there was tin rice on the head. Those who have felt the pressure of watching the worship of Shiva standing on its floor in the heat of the mighty Chaitra will tell.Several years ago, it occurred to someone that the temple of Baba Buroshiva and the Atchalata with it should be decorated with mosaics. There is no shortage of people to jump on all these hujuke! Crowdfunding started - some in the name of father, some in the name of grandfather, some in the name of mother. Nemos daughters reached out to those who were married outside. Several lakhs of rupees were raised and the courtyard of the old man was decorated - now mosaic tiles are laid, lanterns are hung on the head, fans are hanging - devotional songs are played in the sound box installed in the temple in the morning and afternoon. Many said I would not pay in this way, but I would pay for the lighting, some said I would pay for the balcony grill - this is a great thing nowadays. On the first day of Gajan, the monks of the village would take Shiva Thakur in a palanquin and head north. As long as I went regularly, I saw as many as forty monks. Now it is more. Barefoot, they fell on their clothes and went out with a palanquin on their shoulders. Everyone knows that Shivas garland means Akanda. But what you dont know is that in the scorching heat of that chaitra you barefoot on the sand and peach road.
