Megu Restaurant is signature Japanese Restaurant in Lela Hotel at Chanakyapuri New Delhi. Ambience is really good. Preparation and taste of Japanese food is also very good, plus it is authentic Japanese food. Staff is very friendly. It is a physically challenged person friendly place. Toilet is also very neat and clean. You can pay both by card or cash.

Megu is the Japanese Speciality Restaurant located in The Leela Palace , New Delhi. Megu was one of the first Michelin Starred Restaurant to open its door in India ( New York Megu has a Michelin star). Once you enter the beautiful property , is when the experience starts . The courteous hotel staff greeted us and were willing to walk us down to the Restaurant. Megu is located in the right hand corner of the lobby area , just next to the library bar , giving it a nice secluded feel. It was Saturday night and we had our reservation , which helped us secure our table as after sometime the whole restaurant was packed. The wait staff took us to our table and greeted us wonderfully. The restaurant is divided into multiple sections - a main dining room, Sushi table next to the chef and another dining room. We luckily were given our seat in the Main Dining room , which is the place to be. The ambience is just amazing , dark in the colour tone but with more than enough light . The centre piece of attraction is the giant Buddha Statue Sculpted out of Glass and on top of it a giant Japanese Bell with red on the inside , just makes for a perfect look. We were attended by definitely the best Server or Manager in the place and his name was Pavan. He was just very warm and welcoming . He helped us in ordering and answering all questions we had. Before the menu was given to us we were given Wet Towels to clean our hands . That in itself is a great sign of service and its very rarely seen in restaurants. We had a glass of Red Wine along with our food which was very nice and was the Fratelli Sette. We ordered 3 starters , 2 Mains and a rice on his recommendation and honestly it was way more than what we could have , so at the end of the Meal we had to pack quite a bit of food. The food served here is Japanese but mostly Modern Japanese. And most of the things we ordered , actually just by our food choice and preference , were the signature dishes of the restaurant. For starters we ordered - Yellowtail Carpaccio , Dragon Sushi Roll and Chicken Yakitori Skewers. The Yellowtail Carpaccio and Dragon Rolls were Signature dishes. The first dish to arrive was the Yellowtail Carpaccio . Carpaccio inherently is an Italian Dish of very Thinly Slices Meat with a sauce or an oil . Japanese cuisine also incorporated this style of food but use japanese sauces and fish instead of meat . We ordered the Yellowtail Carpaccio which came with 7 pieces of Yellowtail , so thinly sliced that it was close to transparent. The Fish was topped with an Onion Jam , Daikon Oroshi Dressing , Crispy Garlic Chips and Mushrooms. Once the dish was placed , Pavan told us that all their Fish comes from the world famous Tsukiji Market of Japan . The dish was excellent , very beautiful and tasty . The fish was light and the Dressing really highlighted the fish very beautifully. The Garlic Chip just gave a great contrast to the light flavour and the mushrooms just added a great delicate mouth feel to the dish. Amazing dish and very well executed. Next dish to come to our table was the Dragon Sushi Roll , Another Signature Dish. They have traditional Nigiris , Sushi and Sushi Rolls . Sushi Rolls generally are 5-6 Pieces , but the Dragon roll is the only sushi roll which comes with 8 pieces . The Sushi comes along with Ginger and Wasabi , but they even brought out a fresh root of Wasabi which Pavan Grated in front of us to serve us Fresh Wasabi. The Fresh Wasabi was amazing , I am a fan of Wasabi but the fresh Wasabi was next level for sure. The Sushi was beautiful . The Dragon Roll consists of Avocado and Tempura Flakes on top , drizzled with Dragon sauce. The Seafood used in the Sushi is - Shrimp , Crab and Eel. The Sushi was stuffed with loads of seafood and the size of each Sushi was great . Flavour no doubt was the best I have had and really the combination of seafood with avocado and Tempura Flakes was great . The Dragon sauce was a bit sweet and spicy at the same time. Highly recommend this Sushi for first time goers as they will love it . Next was the Chicken Yakitori.

Maybe the best place for sushi in New Delhi! Quality of fish tasted fresh out of the water. I would definitely recommend visiting this place if you are nearby or staying at the Leela. Just a heads up, it is very expensive...but well worth it!The place itself has a beautiful atmosphere and decor, the photos do not justify reality! Service was brilliant too, I ended up having a wonderful conversation with the floor manager (cannot remember his name) he, and his staff were great and made our meal memorable!I will 100% make sure that I visit this place again, the menu had to much to try in one sitting! Oh well, its an excuse to come again!

The clean cut serene ambience starts off your gastronomic journey. With the whole restaurant covered with depictions of old Japanese culture, our journey to the land of the rising sun had started already. There are old Kimono silks on the walls and origami decorations at the Sushi bar. Winters are a time of celebrations in Japan and the new winter menu showcases that. There are a plethora of root vegetables and cold water seafood on offer. The appetisers included Hokkaido King Crab with Ikura. The sweet flavours of the steamed crab combine with the Soya Salmon Roe. Each of the roe explodes with flavours of sea and nuttiness. Nanohana is the next appetiser and it consists of Japanese Rapeseed plant cooked in a broth. The pungent taste of the rapeseed plant is similar to that of mustard and is something that all Bengalis will enjoy.A glass of cold sake down, the Sushi and Sashimi platter looked too beautiful to disturb. The Blue Fin tuna stood out with its bright red colour while the Peony shrimp impresses with its sweet flavour. The Miso Chicken roll is the Chefs grandfathers old recipe. We combine it with some avocado and fresh ground Wasabi. One thing to notice is the seamless use of modern ingredients and cooking styles to the traditional Japanese food to twist it to mouth watering levels.Lets come to the Soup of Samurai now. The Zoni soup is derived out of vegetables along with yuzu, dashi and soy. It is further enriched with braised duck and a sticky, chewy mochi rice cake. Japanese soups are supposed to be slurped right from the bowl and this is what we do. The warm flavours on a cold wintery afternoon are a blessing. The mains consist of two fishes, one is a Chilean Sea Bass and the other is a Black Cod. The Chilean Bass is flavoured with a sweet soy sauce. The Daikon pickle and Ginger root add a few more layers of sweetness to it. The Black Cod on the other hand is cooked with a dashi sauce and tofu balancing out the sweet and salty.Well, the Bengali in me can never be too impressed by sweets of another area but this is where Megu surprises me again. The Black Sesame macaroon, the Yuzu lemon tart and Wasabi flavoured Red Velvet showcased the genius creativity of the team at Megu. Some green tea to wash off the effects of the Sake and we were set for the day. Do try out Megu for some premium quality Japanese.

A beautiful serene place for a special occasion. The food is lovely. I suppose its got some of the most authentic Japanese food in town (cant say for sure, having never been to Japan). Its steeply priced, but that is a given, considering its at the Leela. The lunch set menus are excellent.

Megu is known as superior Japanese fine-dining. This place is also well known as quite pricey restaurant among Japanese people. I understand its because this restaurant is situated in Leela Palace and they use high grade ingredient. But I heard a great news that Mr. Shimomura has appointed as a head chef in Megu from February. He used to work in Bangalore, all Japanese people who lives in Bangalore loved his food. I had no hesitation flying to Delhi to have his taste again. Now they offer new lunch set menu with reachable price. In addition to his stable great taste, presentation is also wonderful. As they have a separated rooms, I highly recommend to the Japanese expats and even to the ladies to use this place for a lunch meeting. For the local Indians, you can first try these lunch menu to taste authentic Japanese food. Good luck for new Megu, chef Shimomura, and all well trained attentive staff.

This statue of Buddha is made of optical glass. It has big value. Its kept in the centre of Megu restaurant. Its kept in the centre pond. Its a previous statue. It has healing properties. If someone has pain in any part of the body (say its knee) , one has to pour water on knee (of statue) three times, its said that the person gets cured.

Ambience ExcellentService ExcelllentFood PoorWe asked for some starters and some main course. Chicken on skewers was burnt. Baby chicken was bad. No taste. Oriental curry was good. Fried rice was ok. California role was good. Mostly the food was mild without flavors. Best was salted caramel fondant. Value for money was unsatisfactory.I might go there for the ambience and with the hope of better food. Wouldn’t yet recommend it to my friends.Rajeev Gopal

Very delicious Japanese restaurant. I think its one of the finest Japanese restaurants in Delhi, but be careful with the price. There is a very skilled Japanese chef. You can enjoy not only royal road menus such as sushi and sashimi but also chicken-cooked chicken (1800Rs). The appetizer tuna swatter (probably 1800Rs) was very soft and exquisite. The grip of the big toro was also excellent. Good staff and great atmosphere.

Restaurant modern Japanese cuisine. The source of inspiration is not Japan, but the American version of the Japanese tradition. Tasty enough, but authenticity is lost. Too intrusive service.
