The Sansad Bhavan (English: Parliament House) is the seat of the Parliament of India, which contains the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha located in New Delhi.Originally called the House of Parliament, it was designed by the British architects Sir Edwin Lutyens and Sir Herbert Baker in 1912-1913 as part of their wider mandate to construct a new administrative capital city for British India. Construction of the Parliament House began in 1921 and it was completed in 1927.The opening ceremony of the Parliament House, which then housed the Imperial Legislative Council, was performed on 18 January 1927 by Lord Irwin, Viceroy of India. The third session of Central Legislative Assembly was held in this house on 19 January 1927.[1]Two floors were added to the structure in 1956 due to a demand for more space. The Parliament Museum, opened in 2006, stands next to the Parliament House in the building of the Parliamentary Library. The perimeter of the building is circular, with 144 columns on the outside. At the centre of the building is the circular Central Chamber, and surrounding this Chamber are three semicircular halls that were constructed for the sessions of the Chamber of Princes (now used as the Library Hall), the State Council (now used for the Rajya Sabha), and the Central Legislative Assembly (now used for the Lok Sabha). The building is surrounded by large gardens and the perimeter is fenced off by sandstone railings (jali). On 13 December 2001, the building of the Parliament was attacked by five Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists. In addition to all the attackers, six military personnel and one civilian were killed.A new Parliament building may replace the existing complex. The new building is being considered on account of stability concerns about the current complex.[4] A committee to suggest several alternatives to the current building has been set up by ex-Speaker, Meira Kumar. The present building, an 85-year-old structure, suffers from inadequacy of space to house members and their staff and is thought to suffer from structural issues. The building also needs to be protected because of its heritage.[5] On August 5, 2019, the Vice President and Chairman of Rajya Sabha Venkaiah Naidu proposed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to have a new building for the Parliament. In January 2020, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla announced that parliament will be holding its sessions in a new building in 2022 when country would celebrating its 75th independence day. Renovation of the central vista from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate is also underway.[6]The proposed Lok Sabha chamber is expected to have increased seating capacity to accommodate more members as number of MPs may increase with Indias population and consequent future delimitation. The Lok Sabha may need to have 848 members by 2026. The new complex will be able to house 900 Lok Sabha MPs and 1350 members in total. According to Bimal Patel, the architect in charge of the redesign of Central Vista, the new complex is likely to have a triangular shape. It will be built next to the existing complex and will be much bigger than former one. The North and South Blocks of the Secretariat Building, which currently houses ministries will be converted into museums. The relocation of the Prime Ministers Office and other ministries and a redesign of Rajpath will take place.

In modern politics and history, a parliament is a legislative body of government. Generally, a modern parliament has three functions: representing the electorate, making laws, and overseeing the government via hearings and inquiries. The term is similar to the idea of a senate, synod or congress, and is commonly used in countries that are current or former monarchies, a form of government with a monarch as the head. Some contexts restrict the use of the word parliament to parliamentary systems, although it is also used to describe the legislature in some presidential systems

The Parliament House of India has a central hall topped with a domed structure and three semi circular chambers. These chambers were initially assigned to house the council of state, legislative assembly and the chamber of princes. However, the Parliament House now accommodates the ‘ Lok Sabha or the Lower House of the Parliament and the ‘ Rajya Sabha or the Upper House of the Parliament and a library. The three circular chambers are guarded by a string of 144 columns that adds to the extravaganza of the buildings beauty. The Parliament House is flanked by beautiful gardens and fountains which enhances the glory of the building.

At a distance of 750 meters from Rashtrapati Bhavan, it is located along Sansad Marg which crosses the Central Vista; this is surrounded by the India Gate, war memorial, prime ministers office and residence, ministerial buildings and other administrative units of Indian government. It houses the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha which represent lower and upper houses respectively in Indias bicameral parliament. The existing building draws inspiration from Ekattarso Mahadeva temple and was built under British empire for its Imperial Legislative Council in 1927. Following the end of British rule in India, it was taken over by Constituent Assembly of India which was succeeded by parliament of India once Constitution of India came into force in 1950.In 2010s, a proposal was introduced to revamp Central Vista and re-build or relocate a number of administrative buildings which initiated a program expecting completion in 2024.As India aims to expand the membership of its parliament, new parliament building is being built with a higher seating capacity of 1,350 members. The new building is expected to be functional in June 2022 while older one is planned to be turned into a museum thereafter.

In India, the legislature at the central level is called Parliament. The Indian Parliament is bicameral. It consists of two houses. The lower house is called the Lok Sabha or the House of the people. The upper house is called the Rajya Sabha or the council of States. The President of India is an integral part of the Indian Parliament. The two houses of Parliament are constituted in different ways. They do not enjoy equal powers. The first elected Parliament came into being in April 1952.Lok Sabha, as the name itself signifies, is the body representative of the people. It consists of members of directly elected by the people. The maximum strength of Lok Sabha has been fixed at 552. Out of these, 530 members are elected by the people from different states and to 20 members are elected from the union territories. Besides, the President has the power to nominate two members of the Anglo Indian community in the Lok Sabha if it does not have adequate representation. The term of Lok Sabha is five years.ADVERTISEMENTS:The Minimum qualifying age for membership of the house is 25 years. The Lok Sabha elects its Speaker and Deputy Speaker from among its own members. The speaker presides over its meetings.Rajya Sabha is the Upper House of Parliament. Its maximum strength can be 250 members. Of these 12 members are nominated by the President of India, the remaining 238 members are representatives of various states and union territories. The elected members from each state are elected by the members of Legislative Assembly of that state. The members from union territories are elected according to the procedure laid down by the Parliament. The members nominated by the President are the people who are eminent in the fields of art, literature, science or social service. No members of Rajya Sabha can be under 30 years of age. Rajya Sabha is a parliament house. It is never dissolved as a whole. The Parliament of India (IAST: Bhāratīya Sansad) is the supreme legislative body of the Republic of India. It is a bicameral legislature composed of the President of India and the two houses: the Rajya Sabha (Council of States) and the Lok Sabha (House of the People). The President in his role as head of legislature has full powers to summon and prorogue either house of Parliament or to dissolve Lok Sabha. The president can exercise these powers only upon the advice of the Prime Minister and his Union Council of Ministers.

My experience is from my distant view of Parliament’s functioning. Based on this I would like to suggest the architects and builders of the new house certain things for a better functioning of both the upper and lower houses:1. In front of the speaker, there should be a real well, at least 30 ft deep so that if any member rushes to the well, he would fall down into it. There should be a net below so that Marshals can lift him up after the House closes the session.2. Every seat of every MP should have seat belts like in Planes, but also lockable by the speaker with a remote control system. Once the MOs are seated, Speaker will lock them up and open the seatbelt lock of only that MP whom he permits to speak.3. A similar “On / Off” system for all the microphones in front of each MP should be installed. Only the microphone of the MP, permitted to speak should be functioning at any time.4. All items on MPs’ tables, lie paper weights etc to be designed such that none can be lifted more than two inches from the table.5. All those “honourable” MPs like Hema Malini, Sachin Tendulkar and others who never open their mouth in Parliament should be give seats on the front rows to reduce noise. This will also help the TV cameras to get a better view of our MPs.6. Finally for safety and security, the new Parliament building should be designed in such a way that it is earthquake proof and bomb proof. Scientists are saying that a major earthquake is expected to occur in the near future. And then, who can trust Mr. iKhan who always keeps on threatening using a bomb!

Inaugurated in 1927 and designed for 100 years but within 60 years It was felt its not suitable neither its much spacious nor earthquake bearable. This clearly reveals architects were not so intelligent and due to laziness of Governments this building is now over utilised. Suppose it would be quite spacious than there was no need to built a separate building for library. Material used in this of good quality so its still in good condition but its round shape is really tricky from security point of view where are many exit and entry points. Now our PM Shri Modi ji has taken a good initiative to built a well planned, well secured and well spacious Parliament building where each MP will have his own office room and this would be ample spacious for increasing number of MPs.

Following the end of British rule in India, it was taken over by Constituent Assembly of India which was succeeded by parliament of India once Constitution of India came into force in 1950.[1]In 2010s, a proposal was introduced to revamp Central Vista and re-build or relocate a number of administrative buildings which initiated a program expecting completion in 2024.[2] As India aims to expand the membership of its parliament, new parliament building is being built with a higher seating capacity of 1,350 members. The new building is expected to be functional in June 2022 while older one is planned to be turned into a museum thereafter.[3]

The Parliament of India is also known as the Sansad bhawan located in New Delhi and is basically bicameral in nature. The Parliament house is segmented into two houses - Lok Sabha and the second one is Rajya Sabha. The Parliament House (Sansad Bhavan) is a circular building designed by the British architects Sir Edwin Lutyens and Sir Herbert Baker in 1912–1913. Construction began in 1921, and in 1927 the building was opened as the home of the Council of State, the Central Legislative Assembly and the Chamber of Princes. The Parliament House of India which is also known as the Sansad Bhawan is now the supreme law making body in India. It is the center of power and politicians decide the fate of the Indian Democracy here. Visitors are not allowed inside the house but when the house is in session, visitors may take permission to go inside and watch the proceedings of the house. The parliament consists of three halls- Lok Sabha(House of People) , Rajya Sabha (the Council of States)  and the central hall (the office of President of India). Not far from the Rastrapathi Bhawan (Presidents Residence) the structure goes round and is 171 meters in diameter. The beautiful structurally perfect Parliament house is not just one massive structure; it is also a building that protects the most massive democracy in the world.

Construction of the Parliament House began in 1921 and it was completed in 1927.The opening ceremony of the Parliament House, which then housed the Imperial Legislative Council, was performed on 18 January 1927 by Lord Irwin, Viceroy of India. The third session of Central Legislative Assembly was held in this house on 19 January 1927.Two floors were added to the structure in 1956 due to a demand for more space. The Parliament Museum, opened in 2006, stands next to the Parliament House in the building of the Parliamentary Library.BuildingThe perimeter of the building is circular, with 144 columns on the outside. The building is surrounded by large gardens and the perimeter is fenced off by sandstone railings (jali).Great Historical Construction of Constitution of India 🙏🏻🙏🏻
