Also known as Varahaswamy temple, Shree Shvetha Varaha Swamy Temple is among the most religiously significant Mysore tourist places and portrays a fine example of Hoysala style of architecture. As you walk in, it is impossible to not notice the intricately carved doorway and fascinating pillars around the Goddess’ shrine. There are also several brilliant mural paintings on the walls of the Navaranga, most of which depict the life of Lord Krishna as well as the two famous Hindu mythologies, Ramayana and the Bhagavata. There are several inscriptions on the pedestals, including the one that commemorates its donor, Chikka Devaraja Wodeyar.

Sri Swetha Varahaswami Temple is located near Mysore Palace, Karnataka. The Shweta Varahaswamy temple is also known as the Varahaswamy temple. . The temple is built in the architectural style followed by the Hoysalas. The shrine of the Goddess has an elegantly carved doorway and intricately carved pillars and tower. The Navaranga has stucco niches at the sides of the entrance. The Navaranga has beautiful mural paintings on its walls. These paintings depict incidents from the Ramayana and the Bhagavata. These paintings especially pay attention to the exploits of Lord Krishna. The temple has images with inscriptions on their pedestals. There is an inscription on a processional image that records that its donor was Chikka Devaraja Wodeyar (1672-1704). It is said that Chikka Devaraja Wodeyar obtained the stone image of Shweta Varahaswamy from Srimushnam, a city in what is the present day Tamil Nadu and consecrated it at the new temple built in Srirnagapatna, the then capital of Mysore State. After the defeat of Tippu Sultan the capital was shifted back to Mysore city and the idol too was shifted from there and installed in the sanctum sanctorum of the present temple in 1809.It is claimed that Dewan Purnaiya had this temple built with materials of a Hoysala building in Shimoga district according to the wishes of Krishnaraja Wodeyar III. There are two inscribed images of Srivaishnava Acharyas, Desikar and Jiyar, in the temple. Desikar also known as Vedanthacharya was a popular Sri Vaishnava teacher and author in the 13th and 14the centuries. These statues have inscriptions on them that indicate that Krishnaraja Wodeyar III presented them to the temple at Mysore that he built in 1829. The temple structure has a number of masons marks and letters in several places. There is an inscription Maya Bhadra in characters if the 12th or 13th century on the southern outer wall of the shrine of the goddess. It is not clear what the expression means and whether it refers to the artist or to the niche itself. The temple is enclosed within high walls. The southeastern wall has a mural representing Rama Pattabhisheka or the coronation of Lord Rama. The painted inscription under the painted panel states that the painting was made on Monday the second of the bright half of the month Magaha in the cyclic year Bhava of Saka era 1797.Must have darshan.

A must visit old temple having all the powers! It is in the premises of the palace. So, request the sentries at the gate to go directly to the temple else one would get confused with the palace visiting crowd.Better to go with a good pair of socks during hot days, as one has to leave shoes at the entrance gate. The temple complex is quite large and has old stone flooring.

Has got history with mysore and srimushnam in TN very good temple taken over by govt! and the poojaries conduct the activity with minimum time! Most of the day it is closed! No pooja is done for the devotees! Only the daily minimum pooja to the god is performed and closed!!The temple is very well located at the south entrance of the MYSORE palace.

Mysore Palace is a grand structure, but not the first palace to exist in this location. The earliest palace was built on this spot in the 14th century by King Yaduraya. The interior of the palace is breathtaking and worth a visit for its spacious halls, paintings, and architectural beauty.Useful info-Palace lighting everyday from 7 pm to 7.30 pm. tickets for adults are priced at INR 40 each, children @ INR 25 each aged between 7 and 12 years. A braille guide also available for visually challenged tourists.

This temple is very oldest temple. We know about lord vishnu dasha avathara means 10 avatharas. In that one avathara is sri varaha swamy one who wants boomi means land they should definitely come here on varaha swamy jayanthi and take nice Darsham and blessings. That day will come in the month of between April and may. On varaha swamy jayanthi Early morning do pooja at home and come without wearing a foot. Because varaha means bhoomi so only we should not wear foot and irrespect to bhoomi. Definitely i will follow this on this day you also follow it. You come here and dont bring any pooja items only you have to bring five types of under growen vegetables means inside growen give it to lord sri varaha swamy and take blessings. on that day you will have special pooja you please participate in that and take positive energy. Only on that day the temple offers annaprasadam after pooja wait and take prasadam and come back. You have lot of buses from bangalore city to mysore city 24hours. You have trains also from bangalore city railway station to mysore city railway station. You have lot of lodeges around mysore city to take halt. You have lot of hotels and restaurants.
