Hutatma Chowk or Fountain as some people ,is amongst the busiest of cross roads not too far from Churchgate station and Oval maidan. The colonial style architecture of the place adds to its appeal. Anybody going from VT station to busy South Mumbai office districts of Kalaghoda, Nariman Point or Colaba would need to pass through this place regularly.

The statue was constructed in the memory of 105 martyrs who bravely fought in the United Maharashtra Movement. The name of the martyrs could be seen on the marble in the premises of the memorial. Its a metal statue but the salty air from the sea makes it appear as a green coloured structure. The place is historically more important than the famous Flora Fountain...

This statue is located near hutatma memorial chowraha. The circle is very large and its barricades. It has this statue in centre and palm trees. Also green lawn is there. Basically not for sitting and walk. Surrounding leads to less space for shops and vehicles to crossby. Bit large circle. Overall 4/5.

Hutatma Chowk is a historic outpost in the Fort section of Mumbai. The old name of this square was Flora Fountain. Memorial of the martyrs of the United Maharashtra Movement, Flora Fountain Fountain and statue of Dadabhai Naoroji in the corner. Etc. Memorabilia are the highlight of this square.British HistoryC. The British East India Company completed the construction of a fort on the islands of Mumbai during this period. Further The fort was demolished due to lack of space and sewage disposal works of Mumbai Municipality in 7 years. This fort had three strong safe gates. The east door is the Apollo Gate, the Bazaar Gate to the north - which is where the GPO is currently located. And the west door became known as Churchgate. Flora Fountain is a sculptured fountain in front of this church gateFlora Fountain FountainFlora Fountain is a water fountain at Hutatma Chowk in the Fort area of Mumbai. This fountain Built in 4. The land in the Fountain area was owned by Sir David Sassoon. The fountain was a monument erected by David Sassoon on his own land, as a memorial to a young girl named Flora. So that fountain was called Flora Fountain. Later, the area became known as Flora Fountain. Flora is also the name of a Roman god.Later in the struggle for United Maharashtra many died in police firing in the area of Flora Fountain. In his memory, a statue of revolutionary women and men carrying torches was erected in that square. The statue was called the Martyr Monument. Therefore, the outpost with Flora Fountain was named as Hutatma Chowk. This conversion Happened in 1979.The immortal flame of the martyrIt was the evening of the 5th of November 1979. From morning, the area around Flora Fountain had a tense atmosphere. The state restructuring commission had refused to give Mumbai to Maharashtra. Mumbai was awakened by the injustice of Marathi Bani. Everywhere he was protesting in small meetings. As a result of this, a huge front of workers and white people would come to the front of the Flora Fountain to protest the unwise government. After noon, that is, in the 100-hundred cloth mills in Mumbai, it was estimated that the march would depart from Girangaon after the first shift of four workers. But a huge crowd of white men, piercing him, started gathering at Flora Fountain, from Churchgate Station on one side and Borribander on the other. It was speculated that this march would be overthrown by the force of policy. Because crowds and gatherings were issued in the Fort area. Women employees from all offices were sent home. Violating the mob, the Mumbaikar was sitting at the Flora Fountain Square in front of Satyagraha. Shortly thereafter the opposite happened. Sticks were used to overthrow the truth. However, police were ordered to fire after they said they did not depart from the square. Police had ordered the then Chief Minister of Mumbai State Morarji Desai to shoot the bullets immediately. Like the water in the fountain of the spectacular Flora Fountain, blood spews of protesters protesters began to fly across the streets. In the fight for the United Maharashtra in January, It was the beginning of a series of 5 agitator martyrs that took place till 1949.Before the sacrifice of all these martyrs and the agitation of the Marathi people, the Congress government was congratulated on May 7, In 1959, a joint Maharashtra with Mumbai was established. After that In 1959, a martyr monument was erected there.
