This is a review of the Bengal Club Durga Puja, Lakshmi Puja and Kali Puja and not the sporta activities or club per se. All events are well organised. Prefer to give Durgashtami Pushpanjali here. Bhog on Lakshmi Puja and Kali Puja nights are awesome. Must visit on those days for Bengalis missing home.
One of the oldest clubs for bengalis in Mumbai. Most of the special cultural occasions are celebrated with joy. There is a Kali Temple at the entrance. The special time to visit this place would be during Durga puja, any amavasya for Kali puja as well as during Lakshmi puja and Kali puja. There are many other days celebrated here which are special for the bengalis worldwide.
Bengal Club is the oldest Bengali Cultural Club in Mumbai. Based in Shivaji Park this club organises Durga Puja every year with some great idols. Initially, they used to get the ground for setting up stalls that sold food items and stuff from Kolkata. But after the orders by the High court, they have shifted the commercial part to Krida Bhavan,. Dadar. This year the idols and decoration was beautiful.

There are exhibitions , craft and handicraft available which depict the culture of Bengal. The open field becomes a place for people to come and enjoy. There are also plays held outside the food area wherein every year Bal Thackeray used to give a speech.

The Bengali speakers who brought their culture with them in the migration, while setting foot in Mumbai, also introduced the unique Durga Puja festival in Bengal. This year, various festival committees have decided to conduct Durga Puja in a simple manner with a large Bengali-style pavilion and idols made from authentic craftsmanship. It is noteworthy that according to the ideas put forward by the young activists, the mindset of the festival representatives is to give priority to Ghatpuja instead of idol worship which is a feature of Bengali Navratri festival. The Durga Puja festival will also be attended by a few delegates on the backdrop of Karona. Since Ghatpuja is associated with the idol of the Goddess, many circles have decided to perform Ghatpuja without erecting an idol. ‘Every year a 20-foot idol is made. But this year, discussions are going on about how the pooja should be performed and what the form should be. No government instructions have been received regarding the permission of the mandapa or the construction of the idol. So there will be a tendency towards symbolic celebrations. What is special is that only young activists are coming up with the idea of marriage, said Shankar Mesho of Nutanpalli Public Durga Utsav in Bandra West.Durga Puja of Bengal Club at Shivaji Park is famous in Mumbai. Every year a 16-foot idol sits here. But this year a four-foot statue will be erected. In addition, there will be a live darshan for other devotees by admitting selected members of the committee to avoid crowds during the festival. So Durga Puja will be performed by ‘Ghatsthapana’. But we are waiting for government instructions. The festival will be held following the rules, said Utpal Chaudhary, head of Durga Puja in Goregaon.
